Sooooooo many injuries this year in the NFL

OT: And the NFL wants 18 games a year?

Wayne out for year, Martin out for year, Cushing gone, Finley gone. And that's just from yesterday.

you have 18 games and how much talent will you really have come playoffs?

Re: OT: And the NFL wants 18 games a year?

It's sad that with all the tech we have that so little has been accomplished to protect the assets, star players. I hate seeing all the teams compete with decimated rosters.

Agree 100%. Even this year come playoffs...a lot of talent could be missing

I feel this year has been the worst in a long time for injuries

Forgot to say Briggs is out 4-6 weeks...

Sam Bradford tore his ACL.

18 games is totally stupid. There is literally nothing that you can do to strengthen joints.

another major one I forgot. This week was bad :bricks:

Re: OT: And the NFL wants 18 games a year?

Bradford out for the season.

Cutler having MRI today. Bears expecting the worse.

Re: OT: And the NFL wants 18 games a year?

But you'll get rid of two preseason games, and Roger is all about safety!

His new 2013 rule about blocking on kicks is expected make major contributions to player safety

well...at least there won't be any more injuries from pushing the pile on field goals...GOOD JOB OMISSIONER!!! Go Rog!!~

Should be:

"At least there won't be any more injuries from Patriots players pushing the pile on field goals."

we all know that it's legal for Jets.

4 weeks for Cutler being reported.

I think the reduced padded practices in both the preseason and regular season may have an adverse affect on player safety. It seems since they implemented this new schedule, the amount of serious, season ending injuries have gone up exponentially. I think the lack of full go practices are ruining tackling techniques.

Very true

OT: Season ending injuries up 47% through 7 weeks from last year

Through Week 7 of the 2012 season, 84 players were lost to season-ending injuries.

Through Week 7 this year, 124 players have been lost to season-ending injuries.

Safer Game

Re: OT: Season ending injuries up 47% through 7 weeks from last year

Defenders are no longer aiming high on receivers and are going low at hips and knees. The result is more season-ending injuries.

Re: OT: Season ending injuries up 47% through 7 weeks from last year

Nice to see that NFLs asinine rules and fines have cut down on the injuries and really helped the flow of the game, Meanwhile, I read a lot of comments on articles from fan bases sick up to here with the BS. Talk of not watching pro football at all. It's a joke.

Re: OT: Season ending injuries up 47% through 7 weeks from last year

No hitting in practice means fresher players, bodies not used to hitting, fresher players hitting harder during games.

Eh, just a speculative theory, but when you mess with the balance of things with simple proscriptions, you sometimes end up with worse results. And this explains a lot of craziness in our world as well.

Re: OT: Season ending injuries up 47% through 7 weeks from last year

Since defenders aren't allowed to go up high anymore we will be seeing a lot of blown out knees. Obviously its better to have a limp later in life than brain damage but it might cause more short term affects on players ending seasons or careers earlier from leg injuries.

Yep,it was discussed on a radio show this evening, the announcers were saying this was a new rule voted by the NFLPA just brought up into the league as players were worried that their own teammate might actually cause injury to another by a sudden push in the back resulting in a head, neck or back injury.

Its a dumb rule and cost us this game but as fans we can't control dumb votes ... dumb votes don't just reside in politics anymore, its in sports.

I don't mind new rules being enforced, as long as it's done consistently. The Jets did the same thing on the tying field goal, yet it wasn't enforced. So the refs waited until OVERTIME to enforce the new rule for the first time in NFL history on WEEK 7. I'm sure it's happened prior to week 7 and they missed it. Not saying the Pats could have won or should have won, they were totally outplayed, just that if you're going to call it, do it consistently.

The block on Cushing was brutal. Broke his leg AND blew out his LCL.

2 years in a row too. Hes been one of my favorite players since USC. Really sucks as the Texans are struggling enough with him.
