You do know the pats keep these things on the down low right? just like the brady extension? They never leak that info until it happens

Yes, but the Brady extension was intuitive. Tagging Talib would be a questionable call...at best.

While all you write is true he was still the best CB we had. I Hope we come up with a deal for him. He brought a swagger to the defense.

I'm not on some "No to Talib!" bandwagon. Although he wouldn't be my first choice of FA corners, I'm fine with taking him back if the deal builds in some 'lost his mind' protections and isn't for more than 2 years. However, the myth of Talib seems to grow greater by the moment. He wasn't any kind of big playmaker, and he wasn't the only reason for the Patriots late season changes back in the secondary. The insertion of Dennard into the CB2 spot was a huge boon for the team, for example.

Talib was important because he was a CB1 and that allowed the Patriots to place players in their spots (Dennard at CB2, McCourty at S, Arrington at slot CB), much moreso than because he was specifically Talib.

We don't know if ANYONE is "walking" and we won't know for another couple of weeks. I preach patience grasshoppers. We have another 6 months or more before we have put a team on the field for real.

If there is one post out of the entire thread that states the truth, then this one from PFK would likely be it:

Let's wait for the finished product first.

That will come from many moves from next week until the summer, and that will also include the draft at the end of April.

We were 1000x better with Talib in there. The millisecond he left the AFCCG, we got lit up by Joe friggin Flacco. Eyes do not deceive. This secondary was light years better with him in there. In fact, I would have to say before he was added, they sucked, vying for the worst in the league.

they were better..but not 1000 times better...he wasn't revis back there but he did help bring stability at times which is what we needed last year and every team got lit up by joe flacco last year in the playoffs...talib or not

Gee, the way remember it was the Ratbirds weren't at all successful with the pass game until Talib went out. Then strangely we got lit the eff up. Pure coincidence, I'm sure.

Flacco could barley complete a pass for the brief time Talib was in there.

Talib went down in the second drive. The next four drives had

2 3-and-outs
1 drive with 1 first down
1 TD drive.

That's hardly

The millisecond he left the AFCCG, we got lit up by Joe friggin Flacco

It also doesn't necessarily mean that Talib was great. It means that the players who replaced him (especially Cole) didn't do the job.

flacco didn't really light us up until after half time..they made adjustments..we didn't It wasn't becasue of talib

Their adjustment was as successful as it was because there was no talib/cole was playing.

It wasn't that bill just sat on his hands

We were hands down out coached in the 2nd half of that game..not becasue of talib. Don't blame the "no talib so we lost" excuse. We were out coached

So how come the defense didn't fall apart all of the other times Talib wasn't on the field? He missed a lot more time than that one game.

No. We were outplayed. Defense wins championships and our defense has sucked since the death of the dynasty in 2007. Successful defenses in the NFL have play makers. With the exception of Vince, what play makers do we have?
Answer-zero.

Which good teams did the Pats play without Talib and the defense played well?

Well, they played well against Jacksonville and really well against Miami without both Talib and Dennard. Not good teams, but doing it without both starting CBs says something. Also did well in the second half against Houston without Talib.

We weren't outcoached. What would you have had Bill do? When you put the likes of Cole against Boldin what do you think will happen? We all saw it.

I'm all ears if you knew what the Patriots should have done that game differently in terms of coaching.

Two crap teams and another with a spooked QB down 20+ points.

yup..talib getting hurt is the reason we lost the AFC champ game..that's it :bricks:

Defense wins championships

Go look at the last few Sb winners and where their Ds ranked when they won the SB

Giants played us at had the 25th ranked D and won. This isn't 2003 anymore. Rules have changed. it's a QB/O driven league. if you don't have a good O...you won't win the SB

2011 was significantly different. Only five of the 12 playoff teams had top 12 defenses, below the 10-year average of 7.50. Only three advanced to the second round, below the average of 5.11.

Only two of the four conference finalists had top 12 regular-season scoring defenses; 2006 was the only other year there were fewer than three.

Finally, 2011 was the only season in the last decade where neither of the Super Bowl participants had top 12 defenses.

Now you're just making up my arguments. I said Flacco lighting up the defense was due to Talib leaving and cole coming in, not because the defense didn't adjust.

To say I said the Patriots lost because of JUST Talib getting injured is something you made up.

I said Flacco lighting up the defense was due to Talib leaving and cole coming in

Huh? Talib left in the 1st quarter...know flaccos stats in the 1st half of that game? 6-of-12 for 81 yards. So he lit them up in the 2nd qtr since talib went out right? Why didn't he light them up since he was gone in the 2nd?

The only one of the three worth tagging was (maybe) Welker, and they already tagged him last year. Seabass would have been worth tagging if RT was regarded as a separate position by tag rules. since every offensive lineman is basically tagged at the LT rate, though, he's clearly not worth it ($9.8M).
