It came out that the Pats had ALSO put a claim in on Jones. However, the Bears got him because of their waiver position being higher.

Patriots waiver position was higher than the Bears (think of where the Bears drafted versus the Patriots). Patriots must have said they wanted only one of Woods and Jones, and gave Woods the higher priority. Either that or the report had a typo and it wasn’t the Patriots that had the other claim on Jones.
