it is to the extent that plunking a guy in the back is. which is to say, it's against the rules and there are consequences for it, but it's absolutely done and is a fundamentally different animal than throwing at a guys head or going at his knees or a helmet to helmet hit with intent to injure.

I was trying to point out that Wilbon was saying running up the score is bad... so you should have someone go after Brady's knees. I'm not implicating the Skins at all. And come on, this is Boston. We're known for our jackass media (unfortunately).

What Wilbon is advoacting is injuring a player...taking away his livelihood...THAT is disgraceful!! I wonder if he would be upset if some columnist said that someone should chop of Wilbon's fingers and rip out his voice box, effectively taking away his livelihood..Would he think that was OK?? He writes for a Washington paper, thus he becomes part of that fan base. He does have a thug mentality for expressing an opinion that harms someone. Now, the conversation of Brady taking on a late hit is on just about every media outlet (HBO, ESPN, journalists) and some dimwitted (there are a few) or overly hyped lineman may think its ok to put a late hit on Brady. It will cost that person $$$$$$$$$$ in fines and possible suspension. As much as Goodall is probably not pleased with the Patriots, he would be 100X more upset if someone intentionally took a hit on Brady.

I heard his comments, and I like Wilbon. He didn't say "go after his knees". He is advocating blitzing Brady, hitting him hard, to send a message that the Pats should call off the dogs in a blowout. If you think it's okay for the Pats to run it up, then you would have to expect that the opposing team, if pissed off, would blitz Brady and perhaps hit him late.

What I took from Wilbon's comments was not that he was advocating ending Brady's livelihood, his season, or taking out his knees. He said he'd make sure Brady was helped off the field, not carried out on a stretcher. I took it to mean someone should ring Brady's bell. Again, if the Pats are going to run up the score, there may be consequences they would need to deal with as a result, and Brady getting hit, hard, might be one of them.

Wilbon isn't a thug, he's trying to get viewers and he's trying to be provocative. I'd say he succeeded.
