Show and tell time... Is Kyle Williams this year's Slow Polk?

It was great to see. But one single long TD is not proof of anything. A hell of a lot better than a dropped pass or wrong route though. It is a positive data point which can't be taken away.

Many fans saw this game as a test for him and felt he needed to show some signs of life. I thought the same thing. If he looked bad after this week, though it is early still, that is over half the rookie year gone while given many opportunities to make something happen. That doesn't automatically mean it will go bad. But no one can call that a good or promising sign.

But he showed something here. Him and Maye connected and it was a beautiful play after the catch.

Now we should ask ourselves what do we hope to see next? It be nice if he could build off this. Another huge TD play be great. But more than another single 80 yard TD strike I'm hoping for a 3 catch game. Even if only for 20 yards total it would be incredibly promising imo.

I predicted it.

I have the receipts.

I predicted it in January long before the Patriots picked him.

A lot of people I read screamed DANGER DANGER about him.

He was slow in college, was caught from behind on breaks repeatedly. Could not separate in college.

He was excellent and strong on the ball in contested catches, also high-pointing the ball.

But without speed, separation, and size, the things he was good at in college didn't count for much (I posted all this on this board, by the way).

I don't care what you predicted. Even broken clocks are right twice a day. Statistics say that only 58% of 1st round picks become starters and 49% of second round picks become starters. OOOOOO so you guessed the percentages. Big frikin deal. Do you want a medal? A chest to pin it on?

The fact is, just like i stated, many pundits were high on Polk. If you disagree with that statement, you are a liar. I personally hated the Polk pic and was screaming for Ladd McKonkey. I don't need a metal or recognition for it. Who even cares? Seriously. Not a single person cares what you predicted about a player who is no longer on the team. It changes nothing. Do you need to clap for yourself to help your fragile psyche? Is that what your reply is about? "He everyone, I have nothing of value to offer currently, but I can tell about a dude who is no longer on our team." LOL. This is 2025 and we are 8-2.

What this thread is now about is laughing at the idiots who hated KW last week saying he is just like Polk, and now love KW as if he is the second coming of Jesus. KW is not Polk. He never has been.

I want to remind people that Kayshon Boutte had 2 receptions in his rookie year.

Don't give up on WRs.

Polk is another story. He was badly scouted. It was obvious.

Nope, that is fake news and revisionist history. I was never a fan of the the Polk pick, but he was not poorly scouted. There were trustworthy pundits who liked him a lot. Polk was broken mentally after he got here, and that is what his issue was. Then he broke physically. He didn't have the mind to overcome it. You typically don't know stuff like that util the player is drafted,

So far, the coaches are doing a good job of slowly developing certain guys. Henderson definitely took a bit, but is now contributing. KW is starting to warm up. I'm having my doubts on Chism, but maybe they'll get him going too.

I still say that Williams has the potential to be a stud as we saw with the one catch on Sunday. I think they are not rushing the guy and it will take time for him to be on the same page as Maye. May never happen, but if it does he has the potential of being an elite #1 WR (not saying he will be elite and he probably won't be, but that is his ceiling if he can pull himself together). The guy has blazing speed which would be a huge weapon with a QB like Maye if he can get on the same page as him.

Same old story - Pats always slow play their rookie WR's. I mean, we thought Boutte was a bust after he went through the BB gauntlet his rookie year. But by 2nd half of 2nd year and 3rd year, became an intentional piece of the offense.

Williams will probably take this whole year to build chemistry and learn routes the way JMD needs him to. But, it'd be great to see 2 or 3 targets for him each game. Especially if Boutte is out this Thurs.

It was a perfect throw and Williams was there and showed speed. However there needs to be more than one big play before I get excited.

Plenty of average Joe receivers who get a long TD here or there.

Still good to see.
He basically matched Polk's entire 2024 on one play.

I'm excited.

True, look at Thronton with KC earlier in the year. Hope they're able to get Williams involved more consistently.

That play yesterday was why KW was a Third Round pick...he did that regularly at Washington State. Hope we see more of him: he's one of those guys who plays Faster than his 40 time.

Rewatched the TD and it was actually more of an "in rhythm play than I remembered. I thought it was one where Maye had kind of held the ball and went through his progressions to where the "precision" part of the play was over and he was just running across. But that looked like a by-design longer developing route. That's good stuff. That's what will get him more playing time if he can consistently be where he's supposed to be in the flow of the offense.

I keep a pretty close eye on the Washington State Cougars football program. I live relatively close to the school. Williams was a guy who I heard nothing but positive comments about during his tenure at Wazzu. By all accounts, great worker, great leader, and a great kid who came from a pretty tough upbringing.
I don’t know where his NFL career will take him, but I’m really glad NE drafted him. It was great to see his first big play TD as a Patriot yesterday. Let’s hope the first of many. Man, he can run. He was flying up the sideline.

Drake and Williams need to spend some quality time after practice working on communication.
Williams has been practicing with the 2’s, he only played bulk snaps last game which bumped his average up. If Boutte misses this week again, Williams will likely get more practice reps with Drake.
I want my award for posting this ^ earlier this week.

Just because a young prospect isn’t playing because there are good players in front of them on the depth chart… it doesn’t make them “a bust.”

Every young prospect is waiting on their opportunity… some just come sooner than others, some young prospects are just ready sooner than others.

In other news rookie OLB Elijah Ponder also got a sack after burning their right tackle… get that kid some more opportunities.

Wonder how he’d do on an end around…
