Should Gronk be out against the birds?

So funny how Gronk is the only one on the team who talks about what is injured and what % healthy he is and how he has a say if he plays or not.

He is a Captain. And with Brady Goodell'd, he is the best player on the team. He is comfortable on camera. He is 100% a pro on the field. I'm not surprised he has more leeway to speak than any other player, without Brady he may be the closest thing the Pats have to a player spokesman.

Save him for when Brady returns. Not too optimistic that JB is gonna get the job done anyhow

Yup, not on the plane...along with Cooper and Solder.

Gronk's still dealing with the hammy issue (3 weeks now). Hopefully it's just a matter of gamesmanship, but if not, I'd rather err on the side of caution with him. It's pretty self-explanatory how critical Gronk is to our season. Luckily, now we have Bennett who can we can lean on as a legit TE threat if/ when Gronk needs a breather or God forbid suffers an injury. All in all, if Gronk can go; GREAT, but if not, stash him until he's ready (like 2013 IIRC) when he came back week 7 against the Jests.
i don't know if he should play or not. what i do know is he should forget about getting a new contract because he constantly gets hurt. the pats don't have to fear a future hold out either. they should welcome one because at least they know he would be healthy when he returns. maybe.

Early in the season to give out idiot posting awards but we already might have a worthy challenger.

I think Captain Insano took it a little too far, but it's a fair point to criticize Gronks injury history - if only because of the fact that his dad got involved before and it was a ****show. I'm honestly a little disappointed that he's not playing, he's had a few weeks to rest his hammy, and the Pats need everyone to step up in Brady's absence.

as long as they are healthy. Lets not assume he is just not wanting to play. Might as well be a team decision.

That's kind of my point, with the fiasco of his dad being involved before, it opens up the ability for assumptions. Had that fiasco not taken place, no one would be questing him.

Do we really have to go through this crap again ? I thought him coming back after one missed game last winter finally shut all of those "Gronk Inc." people up.
We do. It's interesting.

That has nothing to do with discussing injury status. He's the only one that is this verbose with injuries.

I know why but it's interesting

Week one can be sorta sketchy. If that happened mid-season, perhaps.

Naaah.....if the cards can't beat the pats minus Brady and gronk at home, they will fray......Palmer is already in a delicate state

Exactly when was this fiasco you are talking of?

I remember the "100% healthy taken literal" brigade going batshit crazy over his facebook video only for Gronk to be back on the field a few days later.

As usual it was the media trying to generate clicks with their "Gronks inner circle vs. Pats" angle.

Just give me a single instance where he was not available because "Team Gronk" thought thats better for him.

It's a stupid narrative nothing more.

No its not a fair point to critizise his injury history. In fact, this hamstring injury might be first time he misses a relevant game not because of a freak season ending injury.

We are not talking about someone who constantly has muscle issues or things that can be prevented by better conditioning.

A high ankle sprain because a Raven defender fell on his leg, a broken hand on a PAT, rebreaking the same hand after being rushed back and finally getting his knee shredded by TJ Ward.

None of this is preventable. How can you critizise anyone for those injuries?

In fact, if he plays in Arizona and makes his hamstring injury worse and misses the first half of the season you will hear the very same people asking why he played while not being 100% and Brady being out anyway.

Actually, it was his arm that he broke and re-broke, not his hand. I think he still has a steel plate in there, if Im not mistaken.

On another note, I wonder how the TNF game vs.Houston may affect any decision to play him next week, or vice versa in week three. It would seem probable that he will not be out all of this time, only to come back and play back to back games on a bad hamstring within 4 days of each other. I don't think this is the kind of injury where you'd risk something like that on a short week.

I'd rather give grok an extra 3 weeks to heal up over having him rein jure and be out for 6 weeks. Hamstrings can linger for the whole season

In my perfect world, Gronk can play next week, skip the Thursday game, play the following week and be good to go then with Brady back. That gets him in for the two division games and avoids the quick turnaround for the Thursday game. Really just hoping it's not worse than we realize - no reason for that, I'm just a pessimistic.

No. He has a hamstring injury. This is not a critical game. If he makes it worse it can linger and hamper him all season.

This is the very reason why they went out and acquired Marty Bennett.
