Schefter: Drake Maye to start vs Houston [Also reported by Rapoport, Reiss, Kyed and others]

To me it's really simple. They hoped that Brisset could be a serviceable bridge QB who would allow Maye to learn from the bench.

That didn't happen. Jacoby freaking sucks. One of the worst in the league at the quarterback position. So they realized their plan wouldn't work because they hitched their wagon to the wrong vet. Whoever was responsible for deciding to go after Jacoby should answer for that decision.
Then their solution to the failed plan is to abandon the essential principle behind it, which is that he needs to develop behind a good pro to have a solid start to his career? Sounds like we’re in good hands.

Who else is gonna take over for Jacoby? We don't have a good vet on the roster.

I agree completely on that, if a player can’t hack it mentally then that’s on them. The bigger issue is them reverting to the mechanical issues they were trying to break, and then failing because of that.
You raise a good point that if he is pressured too much he reverts back to his bad foot work.

I was on the fence if he should play or not but when JB threw his last pass against the Dolphins to the middle of the field instead of the end zone or sideline I lost it sitting in my seat at the stadium. As I mentioned on a previous page I hope he has played baseball and can slide feet first.

Bottom line is they misjudged how bad Brissett was going to be. To continue to trot him out there on a professional team just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. This wasn’t the plan, but here we are.

And he Regressed last year compared to the previous one… That Alone should’ve been a red flag.
For context, he lost some offensive talent to the draft/injuries. Also, UNC changed offensive coordinators in 2023. The kid performed admirably through a lot. He’s a baller and a leader.

my two posts before and after signing Brisett lol
That we signed Brissett thread has loads of doozies in it. haha

Don't like Brissett, reminds me of trying to pop a stubborn cork in a champagne bottle.

Surprised no one has done the meme of him starting to throw, cutting to spongebob '1 hour later'.. then seeing the ball released lol

The self harm continues, people...slow action discharge is going to get really old by week 3

Ok.. week 5. close but no cigar.. Saying that I am not advocating for starting Maye at all. Here's hoping the scouts are able to search for some vet OL help.. come on use a 4th rounder on something. Give the kid a fighting chance

Wow, a whole 5 weeks? My mistake, I thought it had only been a month.
It's been 5 regular season games. There are only 17 regular season games. Now he can only get 12 regular season games worth of experience. If we waited another week, he would only get, and bear with me here, 11 regular season games worth of experience. If we keep waiting for the perfect situation for him to start, he may end up starting 0 regular season games. You don't want that for your rookie QB. You want him to play as many regular season games more than 0 as you can. Hope that helps

Throwing out the highest and lowest SlowCoby has a career 45 QB rating.
.

The low is 38.9 .... this year ... tossed out ... The OL cannot be blamed for his average ...
High was thrown out... a 4 game 100 rtg season ... where he was 2/4 ... total.

Toss out the 2 high and 2 low and he has a 54.1 average ...
Paying 6 million a year for that ... horrendous ... with all due respect Jacoby ...
Really we should have just went with Little Tykes.

I also think the Robert Saleh firing was a wake up call to the coaching staff. If you (AVP) are going down with the ship, you might as go down with your best QB on the field trying to win games.
Saleh was a coach for 3+ years... We're not at Folgers level yet.

What an incredibly short-sighted, panic-driven, ass-covering, weak-kneed move this is, made for all the Wrong reasons… They’re putting the Least Experienced QB in this draft class behind This offensive Line, with These weppunz and telling him Good luck, you’re on your own now?

Foolishness; utter, complete Foolishness.

Meet the New boss; same as the Old boss.

Fire them All.
Besides restoring entertainment value to their paying customers. a football reason to Play Maye is that they need to evaluate him against NFL talent in game conditions well before the offseason.

Despite half the board apparently already convinced he's the Second Coming, it's quite possible he will bust like so many other hyped 1st round QB's.

He needs to play to be truly evaluated.

Seeing him play against pressure will actually be quite telling.

He’s not panicking about ticket sales, except for the tickets reserved for the public and the opposing team the rest are season ticket holders and those payments were made in in March.
Did you read what I said? Attendance is required for parking and concession revenue which is up to half of the total stadium gross.

Maye’s first start should’ve been in London next week.
For football reasons yes; my guess is Kraft is seeing fan interest, game attendance and viewership crater. This is a home game against a good team, folks will attend and watch to see Maye play.

Absolutely. He gonna be hogtied real bad by that Texans defense.

Remember what we did to Giovanni Carmazzi all those years ago? Ruined the kid from Hofstra.

I don’t believe that for a second.

UNC had decent OTs. But the line was definitely leaky in the interior, which is a lot more palatable than what Spencer Rattler had at South Carolina, a FAR worse OL. Abysmal tackles, pressure coming off the edge.

Rattler is also making his pro debut. And I think the fifth-rounder will accord himself quite well. Bright future.

Believe he had more talent the year before.
Yeah, he lost Josh Downs and several OLinemen. He needs the supporting cast to succeed. He doesn’t have it right now in New England.

And he Regressed last year compared to the previous one… That Alone should’ve been a red flag.
Very few people acknowledge this. But it’s true.

2023 he regressed noticeably from 2022:
His completion percentage fell from 66.2% to 63.3%, his passing yardage dropped from 4,321 yards to 3,608 yards, his passing touchdowns went from 38 to 24, and his interceptions increased from seven to nine.

Is this move because Drake has progressed quickly
Or is it “hopefully this gets the media off our backs”

If it is the former then hopefully Maye can get the experience and development needed. Without getting killed
If it is the latter (which I suspect). Then we have now become desperate Bottom Feeders
