Terrible decision. Great way to ruin a young QB. But if they want to go with the Jets model it’s on them.
I understand the argument of not playing him so he doesn’t get injured but the argument of not playing him because it might ruin him mentally I don’t get. If the QB isn’t going to be able to recover mentally from getting sacked a lot then that QB was never going to make it mentally anyways. See Troy Aikman and Peyton Mannings first years.

At least Maye has been watching and understands how bad the line is and there will be pressure on him, lots of it. I hope he’s played some baseball and is good at sliding feet first.

So he's been ready since game one? Because he's been a play away from being inserted since then... Why hasn't he been playing? And why is now the right time?
You ask a good question. That's what many have asked. My best guess is they were trying to stick to the plan. However Mayo's tone and comments on Monday were telling. Him saying not good enough at the qb position. Drakes been trending towards starting since camp. However mayo did say when announcing the starting QB that what's good for the team now may not be what's good for the team weeks from now. So here we are!

And he Regressed last year compared to the previous one… That Alone should’ve been a red flag.
OMG people, he did not regress, he improved in multiple areas. He got much better at going through reads before running. He was phenomenal in changing from running without looking up to scrambling and keeping his head up and making plays. He increased his awareness of blitzes and setting protections.

You realize he basically went from Josh Mcdaniels to Matt Patricia as Offensive coordinator and his top receiver went from Josh Downs to a guy that missed 4 games and will be out of the NFL in a year or 2. He also played on a bad ankle the entire year.

It's complete nonsense to say he regressed because the stats got worse. Watch every play from both years and not a single person would say he regressed. IT IS JUST NOT TRUE, AT ALL, IT IS THE OPPOSITE!

In Maye's case, this was critical—especially for NFL teams. According to team sources, in reviewing the Clemson and NC State games, some franchises were shocked at what Maye had to deal with. Their offensive line, weapons, and defense were fundamentally outmatched during these games. Unlike media voices, these teams understand that any one player can only do so much.

This is debateable. We've seen plenty of project QB's that were meant to sit on the bench end up being rushed out because the team was scared of the backlash of trotting out a bad starter. Usually it's bad teams that do it. Hopefully Maye actually is ready.
That's just it. I don't believe he was rushed. I just don't have that perception. Drake won the job. The plan was to start Brissett why developing Drake. Mayo admitted that Drake had really been good since he got here and impressed him during camp. That's what you want out your 3rd overall pick. I'm not saying he's the end all, be all for this woefully bad offense but he can't be possibly any worse than Brissett.

It's a home game. My guess is Kraft is panicking about ticket sales and attendance. The announcement is to drive attendance.

And attendance is hugely important, as concessions and parking are 30% to 50% of total stadium revenue. So empty seats are a problem even if they are paid for.

People will turn out on Sunday to see Maye.
He’s not panicking about ticket sales, except for the tickets reserved for the public and the opposing team the rest are season ticket holders and those payments were made in in March.

Try to contain your disappointment if it turns out to be a good decision.

I’ll be rooting for them to win, but if they don’t make the playoffs then it’s a ****ty decision, period. As he is going to get the living **** kicked out of him for absolutely no reason other than to “ entertain” idiot fans.

I think your right and who's to say if he hasn't also been dealing with an underlying injury.
Ultimately the change was about his play and the losses.

By putting Maye in it gives Brisket some time to heal so if Maye is a disaster they can put a healthier, rested up Brisket back in.

Rumor is after the MIA game he was in bad shape and barely able to walk and wincing getting dressed.

Just Max protect at times to protect him and hope Pop Douglas springs loose. IF AVP focus on the protections it will help Maye and our OL.
Not that simple.

Who used to call the protections? Likely Andrews and then probably Brissett when Leverett came in. They're not likely to have Maye do it as a rookie so it will be probably called from the sidelines as part of the play which means being static when Houston changes (because they know this too) their alignment after the helmet mike has been turned off.

The fans are going to get what they asked for, but odds are not what they wanted.

I agree completely on that, if a player can’t hack it mentally then that’s on them. The bigger issue is them reverting to the mechanical issues they were trying to break, and then failing because of that.

There is no time to change line calls from the sidelines, Maye will have to do it until they get a real center on the field.

That’s the worst thing they could do imo. If he’s starting then start him the rest of the season, bouncing a QB in and out is terrible for the player.

Mayo wanted to start Maye for game one. I am sure of that. I think the planning has been more of a contest of wills and influence. I doubt Wolf wants Drake to play.

Agree.

It's clear the MO in Foxboro is, "You are our guy until you aren't".

I don't have a problem with Brisket going to the bench but I have far from being convinced he will stay there is Maye sucks worse than he did.

To me it's really simple. They hoped that Brisset could be a serviceable bridge QB who would allow Maye to learn from the bench.

That didn't happen. Jacoby freaking sucks. One of the worst in the league at the quarterback position. So they realized their plan wouldn't work because they hitched their wagon to the wrong vet. Whoever was responsible for deciding to go after Jacoby should answer for that decision.

Maye is the QB of their future, and my feeling on it is once they start him he stays as the starter. If that means getting the **** kicked out of him then he will just have to overcome it. As much as I wanted him to sit for the season I really don’t want them to yo yo him. I think that’s one of the worst things you can do to a young QB.
