Saints released RB C.J. Spiller

New Orleans just ate a $7 million dead money hit to dump Spiller, and they're not a stupid organization. That's a very, very bad sign about his ability to contribute.
And they kept Cadet, who couldn't beat out White.

They traded Jimmy Graham so they're certainly capable of making a stupid move.
Yeah, Jimmy was lights out last year in Seattle: 11 games, 11 games started, 48 receptions for 2 TDs. But, to be fair he's off to a much better start this season. Last week: 1 catch for 11 yards. Yes, New Orleans really f#####up dumping him.

I never liked this line of reasoning. Danny Woodhead couldn't beat out a dude on the Jets. Dion Lewis couldn't beat out multiple backs in Cleveland and Philly. Vrabel couldn't beat out LBs in Pittsburgh.

Sometimes a player is just not a good fit for a system. Sometimes teams make mistakes.

Who, Seattle or New Orleans?

The Saints get the better end of that deal.
Both, neither team was better off. NO lost a star stud weapon in their offense and didn't get equal value back. SEA lost a starting OL and a 1st round pick for a guy that doesn't fit/can't product in their system.

True, but bad examples. Those players were not proven commodities at their old teams. Cadet was a proven commodity who was brought in to compete in this system and lost. Of course Bill could have made a mistake, but I think it unlikely. Spiller is also a known quantity but offers no clear advantage over White, not to mention Foster and Sankey. We'll see, but I'd be surprised.

*shrugs
That's like saying Chris Long definitely can't pass rush anymore because only 3 sacks last year.
That's like saying Chandler Jones can't pass rush anymore because he only had 1 sack in last Sunday's game....oh wait.

Cadets hamstring injury killed him here. I still think he could have done well here

Who would shatter first if dropped at metre intervals CJ Spiller or RG!!!

Assuming he's healthy, sure I'm interested. White played well on Sunday, and Spiller should be about that good, maybe better, in a similar role.

He used to be capable of running through arm tackles. Dunno if he still can, but if so he's an upgrade.

Didn't help. But BB knew what he had in Cadet and hamstrings heal (unless Gronk and Solder have been put down). The uncertainty is what Spiller has left. My guess is that his tank is not full. And I'm not a fan of our RB situation.

Not worth kicking the tires at least? Despite Blounts fumble, he looks like he's running harder this season. Plus, and I don't have much to base this on besides a feeling, it seems like Belichik really likes him

Wow, he'd be a perfect fit here. Once Gronk gets back and they go to a primary 2-TE offense they'll need a starting RB that can run+catch well. Right now Lewis is the only RB on the roster that can do that and he's obviously hurt. He'd also give us a really good KR which we don't have now.

Assuming he's healthy they should be all over this.
No. Spiller is not better than anyone we have including foster at this point.

Cadet wasn't healthy enough to beat anyone, if I recall correctly.

Ok, there still isn't much evidence that he can run. He didn't look that great running in the preseason. He went undrafted. I like Foster too but I don't see any reason to expect he can be a good 3 down RB.

You didn't pay much attention after round 7 of the draft I take it. I guess it was an early and long summer vacation so you could be ready for preseason

Foster was well discussed as a BB kind of guy, because he took one for the college team and played wr instead of RB his sr year due to wr injuries. THAT is why he went undrafted AND why BB picked him up.

He is a RB. And on this team a RB that knows wr skills is not a bad trait-set.

As to what he showed in preseason, I'll take your word for it-- I can't say. But he is much younger than Spiller with IMO more upside (spiller is maxed out on the career downside or at least plateau)
