Rumor: Pats interested in Josh Rosen?

I’d be fine with trading up into the mid-teens for Rosen, I think he has the talent to e a good starting QB in tee NFL. I’m not sure he’d be great so I would be less happy trading into the top 10 for him. I’d like to keep one of our top 43 picks if possible (on top of the Rosen pick).

It be great if Mayfield falls

Saw a mock that had the Jets getting Mayfield, the Dolphins getting Darnold and the Bills getting Rosen.

That was kind of depressing.

If we still had Jimmy G, they’d still be the 3rd, 4th and 5th best QBs in the division

I think he’s in the Jared Goff range of talent. Might not carry a franchise like Brady or Rodgers, but will win with talent around him.

Are there any QBs in this class who could carry a franchise?

Since they suck every year, the law of averages says they’re eventually going to hit on a few players

Jackson’s and Allens’ upside maybe but no, I don’t think so.
I think Darnold as well as Jackson have the most upside by far. Both younger & have actually flashed, been consistent & shown glimpses of greatness.

Allens tape & metrics show a Gabbert, Lynch, Locker, Ponder type player.

Allen has the raw physical talent which was what I was basing it on. I initially just included Lamar but Allen’s physical abilities can’t be ignored souldhe discover how to lay the position well. I’m not saying he’ll get there.

Tbh Ive been debating the is he or isn't he a starter on Baker for years. Love him but not here imo. Hed be great in every area but isn't someone younger enough imo unless were thinking strictly Brady-injury replacement during the year as opposed to the next QB.

Yea I got what you were basing it on but give me peak Jackson & Darnold over Allen any day. A strong arm isn't enough to compete w/ placement/touch, accuracy & decision making which is part of potential as well.

If you’re going to take into account Allen’s weaknesses then Darnold’s potential giveaways (ints and fumbles) need to be taken into account too. 42 over 2 years. Darnold is fine but I don’t think he’s a QB who makes those around him better in the NFL but is rather someone who’ll do well but will be reliant on the talent around him.

Allen makes no sense in a timing offense. He doesn't have the ability to read a defense well enough, or at least hasn't demonstrated it.

Rosen can play in any scheme. Jackson's a good match for a timing scheme because he has such good placement, even beyond his first read. Mayfield belongs in a spread.

I wasn't bringing them up as Allens weakness but rather Darnolds strengths in particular, in terms of his peak, those would be his biggest assets.

Idk where talking about an incredibly streaker passer. Hes the equivalent to J.R. Smith in basketball. Jackson, Darnold etc have at least made the players around them better at the college level. Jackson more so than maybe any QB. Allen struggles to complete 2000 yards, looked shook against better comp & hasn't shown the ability to read a defense like the other 2 as well.

Nobody knows. Right now Rodgers and Brady are the only QB's that could outright carry a franchise if they needed too. Rodgers fell late in the 05 draft and Brady fell to the 6th round. If going into the draft anybody thought they were capable of that they would go top 3 overall.

I’m not making great claims on Allen’s behalf aside from noting his athletic upside. Here’s a question. Do you think Darnold will have as good an early career as Carson Wentz or Deshaun Watson (realise that was only half a season)? Those two elevated those around them or do you think he’s going to be more like Jared Goff who looks to need talent around him. I think those three have franchise QB potential but I’d rather have Wentz/Watson over Goff as things stand right now.
