Revisiting the Patriots losing out on 1OA

It's not Ten-A it's 1-O-A. First overall. I'll use the latter from now on if 1OA is annoying.
It’s all good man, I probably would just say first overall, but don’t mind me I’m just being cranky over here

After a consensus good draft how do you feel now about the Pats beating the Bills in week 18 and losing out on 1OA? Same? Better?

How much better could this draft have been if we were 1OA? If at all?

Would be interesting. I don’t think we pick Campbell at 1OA and I don’t know how the team felt about Hunter and Carter. I think at least we are trade partners with Jax…
From a pure draft capital standpoint it still sucks.

We could have traded 1st overall for more picks.

Not sure how many but more picks the better.

If they slid to 2nd or 3rd overall I think they still would have taken Hunter or Carter but by no means should that be an excuse for not having a good draft because they absolutely did.

It could have been better if we had the #1 pick.

We still could have gotten the same players, but we could have accumulated more draft picks.

The Giants offered the Titans significant compensation for the #1 pick (report is the Giants offered their #3 pick, next year's first round pick, and other picks). If we had the first pick, trading back to #3 would still have netted Will plus the other draft capital the Giants were willing to part with.

I'm kinda expecting the MOAT (mother of all tanks) outta the sAin'ts for Manning
The Jets are ALL IN on tanking for 2025 (and 2026 if necessary) for Arch.

I'm convinced Glenn + Fields is a designed tank. Just listen to Glenn's intro presser. It was bad as Mayo's. The main difference is Mayo made his sentences too long and Glenn can't finish a sentence.

Jets quietly had a pretty damn good draft (except for the WR they took).
It's the Jets, and they don't have a QB, so I don't expect much, but it's actually crazy how much talent there actually is on that team.

That's why their key to tanking is QB and HC.

They have that nailed down.

I just don’t care. Expecting players to go out and lose when they get paid by their performance is an absurd idea, and the same goes for the coaches. I don’t blame Mayo for playing by to win when he knew he was getting axed as soon as the game ended, kind of hard to expect him to “ take one for the team. “

They had a great draft, and a great offseason overall. This franchise is light years away from the disaster they were in December, and the future now looks bright. Hopefully they will start peaking as the Bills start waning, and the Fish and Jets are solidly back where they belong, at the bottom of the division. And my prediction is this, they will win a Super Biwl with Vrabel and Maye,
Well the Bills managed to figure out how to intentionally lose. So it couldn't be that absurd of an idea

They would have traded #1 to whoever was picking #3 so that team could take Cam Ward and then they would have taken Abdul Carter at #3.

Their coaches and players weren’t worried about getting their next job, so they could get away with playing soft. You don’t want that tape out there if you are looking for a new job.

Eh..maybe. I'm not so sure they would have.

10A?

Anyway, I'd have loved the Jags deal....we would have still gotten Campbell....or at worst...Banks plus all of those picks....

Another thing to add....we might have not been able to trade Milton to the Cowboys for a 5th if he didn't get to display his ability in week 18.... (shrugs)

Not psychic so I can't tell you what their draft board is relative to everyone else's but everyone and their mama had Carter/Hunter as blue chip prospects and no one else. Understand positional need, but I don't think they would have passed on a blue chip prospect for one that's rated less. Now, if their board differs from the consensus... different conversation.

If they were picking #1, I bet their offseason approach would be a bit different. They probably pursue FAs at LT more aggressively or at least pursue LGs more aggressively for an upgrade there (reportedly they thought about a guard in round 2 so they still view it as a need). Everyone for months has know it was going to be Ward/Hunter/Carter top 3 in some order. Everyone knew #4 was a mix of prospects like Jeanty/Graham at less than ideal positions and Campbell who if you have close enough to them plays a premium position that it's worth reaching for.

I don't like what Mayo and Milton did, but I'm not mad they lost out on Hunter and Carter. Protecting Maye is priority #1 and moving down a few slots with those other players gone made the pick easier to take.
