Curtis Martin never won squat and wasn't that good near the goal line. I'm sick of hearing about him and his bum chum Tuna. They gave the Pats fans a big FU and I salute them both in the same way.
One player, especially at RB, can’t carry an entire mediocre at best team which is what he had aside from 1998. The loss of Martin started the 90’s Pats demise.

I’m surprised the NFL didn’t stop the trade back in 1998 for tampering as Parcells had knowledge of the Pats cap situation and that the Pats couldn’t match it. Their only option was to keep Martin for one more year, but he becomes an UFA without the ability to franchise tag in 1999 or take the 1st and 3rd picks.

Oh yeah, the guy who we were banned from talking about in the main forum while he was winning his 7th SB with another team. Tom Brady I think it was. What's he up to these days?
Last saw him putting on a red jacket!..

Given his failure last year to meet expectations, and the vulnerability of RB's generally, it seems like a slight overpay. So I guess it's a meh for me: doesn't really move the meter much so far as the rebuild is concerned. I suspect that by the time the team is actually playoff-competitive, we'll be on to a new RB anyway.

Can we please see some action re the O-line?!!! That's far more important, in large part because the rebuild is based on Maye's proving successful, and if he gets clobbered into dizzy incompetence, as Mac was, we'll pretty much have to start the rebuild anew by devoting draft resources to a QB rather than to all our other needs,
What I believe is.. wolf and Mayo are waiting for camp for certain positions on the Line to come to fruition. I really believe Wallace is going to end up playing LT. Rham pretty much is a benefit of the new regime, and our poor placement in spending. So RK is not going to be shy about writing a check to Rham, I think he's a good all around back. He had to cash in now becu RBs don't have a long career.

Well, that's a positive characterization of the OL situation which - who knows? - might be right. Maybe this guy can be this; maybe that guy can be that. I suppose that's just inevitably how it goes when a team and a unit have fallen as low as the offense/O-line fell toward the end of Belichick's time here. It would be nice to have a clear picture of what the O-line will look like. Aside from Andrews, whose career will soon wind down, it's all question marks. I will share your hope that it might all fall into place, but I don't see enough sure talent to make that an expectation.

As for Rhamondre, as I said, I think they were more generous than they had to be, but it doesn't really bother me that much, except that the significant stall in his development does give me pause. He has never regained the suddenness and pop he had early on, and I can't help but wonder if he ever will. The decline of RB's can be very sudden, and it can happen at any point in their careers. They do collisions for a living, after all.

I look at player salaries the same way as an investment in real estate. It might feel like an overpay at the time but years later it could look like a steal.
No doubt. It's kinda weird how with all the brainpower and midnight oil devoted to choosing which players to draft, re-sign, trade; it's still all pretty much a big crap shoot.

Rham played hurt he admitted the last 2 seasons.. he was worn down becuase they literally had no offense.

Unless Harris gets some opportunities and runs well.
So? Then we would need a backup in case of injury. Veteran RB are inexpensive and available.

And when would you know that Harris is ready to be a top backup to Stevenson? After some TC reps? after a couple of pre-season games?

For me, this is a very easy decision. If we want to run more, we need to add another RB.

And, OK, the addition should be a veteran expected to be an upgrade over Harris.

So? Somewhere in the Patsfans.com metaverse I mentioned Harris should get a lot more carries to prove if he can run in the NFL or not and that we won’t know until he does so in preseason. So…preseason.

Ok, he'll be getting lots of carries in the free season.

I think it unlikely that he will be sooo good that they won't feel the need to sign another RB. I suspect for $1M higher than his pay that we could sign a significant upgrade.

But I'm certainly fine if Harris show enough to be the man good enough to play while sitting Stevenson for a series or two.

I like what I saw from Harris in his rookie season. He actually played well down the stretch late last season.. he's a back who can get tough yards, and has a nice breakaway ability. He should be entrenched as the 3rd back.. we will need him.

Are you saying that no one will be cut from other teams that is better than Harris? Whoever such a player is, the cost won't be much.
Obviously. I'm fine if Harris shows the skills that you see in him.

For me, I see a likely opportunity to upgrade the roster.

Oh not at all.. just simply saying Harris is on the roster he's got nfl experience under his belt sf least he can be a contributing player.. we will be running the Rock to set up the pass. Our RB room is set.. we don't need to go crazy trying to upgrade at that position right now.

I agree that there is no reason to go crazy to get an upgrade to Harris.

However, I expect that an upgrade will be available at a reasonable price.

Harris ran pretty well and showed some pass blocking and receiving ability last year and prior in an imperfect offense.

They should keep Rhamondre, Gibson and Harris to get through the 53 man cutdown, every other RB currently on the roster stinks.

After the cutdown they should add some developmental rookie or some value vet sitting out there to the practice squad. No need to waste valuable roster spots on RB's when the three you have are so young.

I understand that you don't respect the plays of STers like Hasty.

We almost always start the season with a RB/STer on the 53. This year it is likely to be Hasty. I think that he is more likely to make the 53 than Harris. But, yes, there is a strong possibility that we refuse to pay a season vet $1M as a backup and save the $200K.

He was active for ten games last year, if his special team's prowess was so impressive, the teams that employed him didn't recognize it.

Yeah.. with cut down day there will be players available late August... but I like that wolf is looking for talent instead of STs stand outs only..
