Report: The Falcons gave their players a ton of painkillers

I am that person AJ. At least prior to '89

And one of the main drivers that got me into recovery was that I knew down to the center of my being, I was in loserville.

And by the Grace of God, I found the willingness to walk out. You don't need to be PC about us addicts or recovering addicts. That stuff doesn't fly in the halls of recovery

If you know anyone "in the program", they'll tell you there no soft love. It's all about brutal honesty and tough love.

We tell newcomers if you want what we have, do what we do. And if you don't, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out

I wish society was more like that
I've learned things are not always as they appear and "right" doesn't work for everyone.

4 Tylenol and 4 Advil at the same time works way better IMO.
I've done 2 aspirin and 2 motrin, was up in Maine and tooth abscessed Friday night on a holiday weekend. Long weekend that was.

If they used the most painkillers than does that mean they are more dinged up than the average team? Of course it could just mean they are bigger junkies or even just not very tough (compared to average player).

I think this is a fair question: what kind of medication can you take? Bio tech is coming up with something new to allow jocks to gain an illegal advantage. A few players need medication. For example, Cutler is diabetic.

Are the Dirty Burds using old illegal painkillers, or new ones that should be banned?

Painkillers in the NFL are very, very old. Halfway thru this link it really details how bad the pounding is. Ex-star Dorsett suing NFL: "They use you up" - CBS News

Not defending the Dirty Burds - just saying I don't know how players do this.

I know, I wouldn't do it for a million dollars.

Fortunately, if you even know their names, they make that a few times over in a given year.

Eh well, it's a blood sport, we're complicit, can we MOVE ON?

I refuse painkillers if my doctor asks me if I need them. Even when I had a bad toothache, I asked the doc for just 3 until I had a root canal the next day

Using them recreationally is one of the major signs of Loserville

You took 3 painkillers in one day, must of been a hell of a toothache.

I am only worried what crap they will throw on the pats close to game day.

But then again, you don't understand addiction or recovery the way someone like me does

The program works for anyone as long as they're willing to work it

But there are those incapable of recovery and they fall into 2 categories; the defiant and those that think they're too smart

You clearly have never been high off of percoset or oxycontin. I broke both my arms when I was 16 and was given a bottle full of percs.. I had no idea what percs even were and what they did. As soon as I took a couple my body told me that these pills are bliss.

I disagree its a sign of loserville but they are extremely dangerous. And you are smart to stand clear of putting opiates in your body.
What I liked about the Percocet I got over a decade ago was it put me into such a relaxing sleep. Also, for that same injury I got the prescription for, I was also given morphine in the hospital prior. I put off accepting it for a few days, but when I finally gave in, wow. You're right, I can see how people would get addicted to some of these drugs.

Ok then I guess we leave it at you know everything and that gives you the right to look down on people having problems and call them losers.
Perhaps the program has had some negative effects on you.

You must know someone that's sober AJ.

I would help anyone that asks for my help as long as they're willing to do what the rest of us do. I've helped many find sobriety. It's not "my way" nor am I the reigning expert. There are millions of us and you'll find our meetings in just about every corner of this earth

Will you frikkn STOP worrying about the feelings of anonymous people AJ? Too many live life walking on eggshells trying not to hurt feelings.

I'm not calling anyone a loser bud. I'm telling you that the end destination of drug/alcohol addiction is Loserville.

The great part of that is that every single visitor to Loserville can leave that place anytime they choose to.

It's a place, not a person. I behaved like a loser when I was there. Although it's a deadly illness, if I walk and talk like a duck, then I am a duck. People rob, kill and mane others due to addiction. And they have to pay their dues to society for doing that just like anyone else

I had dinner with my 24 year nephew the other day. He found out one of his best friends is using heroin and stole money from him twice in the past month or so.

He had to cut ties with that friend this week. He told him he's a liar and a thief and he deleted his number from his phone.

That's how an addict should be treated. With tough love. Otherwise you get dragged into their world.

Any sober person would agree with me

attorneys never lie lol. Probably is a lot more. It's the NFL after all. Will end up a non story imo

Since we're on the subject of painkillers I thought it would be a good time to discuss the pain aspect of this game, especially with one of the respectful Atlanta fans.

One of the things that some teams underestimate about this Pats team is their physicality. I suppose that has to do with the way they're perceived to be a finesse team, due to having the big brained QB and HC. The Pats are actually much more physical than most teams.

We don't get to see many Atlanta games up here so we don't know how able they are to handle a real physical team like the Pats. They have such a formidable offense that they could be in the same boat as the Pats in regard to the perception of their physicality.

The Pats fan in me is hoping that the Falcons get buried alive by the Pats, but the man who respects the fine people of Atlanta is hoping for a great, injury free game.

Is it really just Wednesday? I hate the extra week.

This is already pretty much a non-story.

we are surprisingly physical as well. We often get wrote off as finesse which isn't true. We are fast at every position but they love to get physical

OK, you are the only one who knows anything and of course you are the only person who can comment on someone who is having a problem with painkillers, and since you decree it they are all losers, no matter who they are or what they have gone through.
feel better now?

There's just so much integrity here Roger won't know what to do with it all.
That's easy, give them the highest draft pick the Patriots have in the 2017 draft for general contribution to league-wide integrity and NOT becoming repeat offenders.

As a matter of fact - forget the whole noise thing too - that wasn't strike one at all. They get a reset - never forget they just built a new stadium! Keep your priorities straight!

Not to mention this leads to major issues later in life..aka drug abuse...addiction..and then when players are addicted and have no access...heroin is in the mix...why heroin in MA is unreal right now..all of the pills have been locked down and hard to get..but has created a huge demand for heroin
