Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

Mankins doesn't have to be paid 'instead', paying him would actually open up more space to sign Osi.

Sorry but it's not just about this year.

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

smartphone + twitter + adam schefter and profootballtalk's twitter to follow

you know stuff super fast lol

Try:

iphone4 + Twitter + Schefter + Lombardi + Rapaport + Smy + reiss + Bedard + Clayton + Price = already knowing everything, and just coming here for the reactions.

I love how the twitter apps on the iphone streams the tweets.

i didn't want a contract

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

Reports are that Umenyioria is no longer being allowed to seek a trade.

hmmm interesting!

that means they found a trade partner? or they're gonna roll with a disgruntled osi lol

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

I know things are slow waiting for actual football games to start being played, but is it really necessary to start a new Osi Umenyiora thread every time some new rumor and speculation is reported about him?

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

Cap should go up every year.

But you have young players in your system seeking next contracts. I don't like this player's mindset.

Mike Reiss is the only one reporting it that I've seen, maybe the Giants just told the Pats to stfu. Who knows.

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

The Pats are Not going to trade for OU. How many times in the past has this board run rampant with speculation of picking up a player in the draft or FA only to see said player drafted or signed by someone else. And while many here see a player as a good fit the Team doesn't. When the pats pick up a player its usually a surprise like Fat Albert or Oco was.

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

I've had too many such moments....luckily I have selective memory loss.

I live in New York and have not heard one thing about this.

Plus, I can't see the Jets and Giants making any trades with each other unless the Jets overpay. They don't exactly like each other.

Its not happening.

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

just listened to WFAN at lunch with Beningo and Roberts who are at Giant camp today. Stated that they have it from a Giant source that

1) Report out of Baltimore is erroneous and the Giants still want a #1, however if they dropped it to a #2 they would get the deal done immediately.

2) Apparently 21 teams have inquired about Osi.

All during the talk not one mention of the Jets going after him or being the team that is ready to get him. Now that doesn't mean it isn't going to happen or can't happen, it just means it is no where out there as even a rumor other than at 98.5

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

Hard to see the Pats giving a high pick and big money to a Condon client.

Guys, please get the right information before posting. You only end up making yourself look stupid when you post the same cliches, especially when it's the wrong stuff.

Osi no longer to seek trade

Umenyiora no longer allowed to seek trade

The Giants informed Osi Umenyiora and his agent Wednesday that they are no longer permitted to seek a trade partner.
Umenyiora's agent was unable to find a team willing to pay the Giants' asking price, which was reportedly still a first-round pick despite a Baltimore Sun report to the contrary. The Giants hope this decision "nips the distraction in the bud," though it could have the opposite effect. Umenyiora has made it clear that he wants a trade or the long-term extension that was promised.

Bingo. I don't think an Osi deal is possible until Mankins gets extended. Sigining him long term will open up cap room.

The thing to consider is this - a high 2nd round pick may be MORE valuable than a late 1st. Why? Quite simple - with the way contract negotiations have been going, 1st round guys typically are demaning fully guaranteed contracts. But 2nd round guys don't get that type of treatment. Therefore you risk less financially on the 2nd round guy, you still get 4 years out of him, and you pay him less. Not to mention there's not a whole lot of difference in talent level between a late 1st guy and the high 2nd guy, I'll take the high 2nd every time!

A 1st rounder may SOUND more prestigious, but if you're getting a high 2nd like with the Raiders 2nd round pick, overall it's actually more VALUABLE for a team than a late 1st round pick like the Ravens have. Just thinking out loud here on why a Pats 2nd might be more attractive in a trade to the Giants. (Although the Ravens have yet to cave in and offer their 1st).

Just listened to WFAN at lunch and Beningo and Roberts are at Giants camp and reported the following:

1) Baltimore report is erroneous in that the Giants still are asking for a #1 but could get the deal done immediately IF they dropped it to a #2

2) Apparently 21 teams have inquired about Osi or been in contact with his agent.

apparently their source was someone close to the Giant org.

Re: Osi no longer to seek trade

The giants will move him. This just makes him even more mad.The giants are dumb not to take a second rounder. If he was 27 years old then they might get a 1st round pick but he is not.
