Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

Hard to see the Pats giving a high pick and big money to a Condon client.

For the last time, Osi's agent is NOT Condon, it's Tony Agnone.

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

while the doom-and-gloom beakdown of last year's team defensive stats shown earlier in this thread is interesting, I recall a similar analysis done shortly after the season was over. That analysis showed comparative rankings for the 1st half of the season and the 2nd half of the season. The first half was atrocious as the youngsters learned under fire. The second half was actually pretty encouraging, with several top-10-in-the-league rankings, though 3rd down defensive efficiancy was still too low.

Our defensive capabilities improved tremendously from September to December, and it wasn't just strength of schedule or dumb luck. A lightbulb went on for lots of guys. This made the loss of Spikes very late hurt more- the D was gelling otherwise.

Who cares? Adding Umenyori to this defense up front would be huge. A question for the cognoscenti is: can the Pats exceed the cap now and make cuts as the final cutdown day nears to fit under it? It seems like guaranteed money is the biggest sticking point for lots of these guys - it was for Burress who - understandably - took a one-year deal if all the money was guaranteed.

What are the conditions that can be placed on making the team for a guy like Umenyori? He's got two bad knees and had hip surgery, so what's the deal here? He should seek front-loaded money but is a huge risk medically, especially for a #2 draft pick and a multi-year deal. This one seems more complicated than either Ocho or Haynesworth that have little downside if they don't work out.

Re: Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora, price now down to 2nd rounder

He was paid once. Wants to be paid again. Giants are smart to get what they can. Excellent pass rusher "when healthy" which is half the games. I think he sacked McNabb about 25 of those 60 sacks in about 5 games.

This would be a mistake.

Pay Mankins instead.

i think the giants are smart

osi's doing this because he doesn't want to take the javon walker way out of ny, like javon did outta GB

although that did work in terms of javon getting paid haha

players just want to get that one last pay day before their contract runs out, and if they've been injured (osi , desean) they're more likely to hold out , to get a new signing bonus.

teams are smarter most of the time, and won't reward the player till he shows up to camp, plays in the preseason, then they reward the guy going into the season, or during the season , with an extension or new contract.

So my advice to Osi would be to show up, and honor his contract, but in his opinion, he's going to use the only leverage he has left, to avoid the risk of re-injury which will hurt his pay, or could hurt his pay, going forward after this season.

I really hope my chargers just go for it and get him, it's not like we are masters of the draft lately, so a 2nd isn't all that bad especially when it's still possible you can trade VJ for a 2nd during the season (if a team is desperate enough for a wr)

AJ has a hard-on for the guy since 2004, so this seems like a no brainer for SD to make a serious run at him.

Mankins doesn't have to be paid 'instead', paying him would actually open up more space to sign Osi.

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

How can they afford him? IF TRUE

Re: 98.5 Source...Osi to Jets?

I am is this a joke thread?

no way they could afford him

Not a joke, OP misheard or radio station misinformed. Osi isn't a Jet and latest I've heard is that the Jets aren't on the shortlist.

Osi is already in camp. He has shown up. He is not a holdout. He still wants out.

he's practicing?

then what the hell is his problem?

he should just shut up, play , and get rewarded, like normal players do
