As far as the Patriots' level of interest in DE Osi Umenyiora, "due diligence" is how one league source termed it.
98.5 isn't even talking about it now. You would think if the Jets had traded for Umenyiora, they would have spent some time talking about it. No offense to the original poster, but he/she might have heard it wrong.
Just got a text back...."no we were tooling on a texter who said he had a source saying they were going to".....
Sorry folks.....mods delete...my bad
Same poster who "guaranteed" we'd get not one but two 1st round picks for Cassell. Color me skeptical.
I'm not in the break the bank for Osi camp although Borg's excellent analysis requires thought. What also gives me pause for thought is the Jets' cap strategy of supposedly deferring several big contract payments to 2014 when the new TV deal expectdly bumps the cap. Were I Belichick I would at least consider portfolio diversification and place at least one and maybe two big contract bets on the 2014 square. Not several, Jets style, but some just in case the expected occurs. That way the team can benefit a bit more during Brady's last big years without risking the entire house of cards Jets style. Whether this is Osi or one of the Pats (MLB comes to mind) is up to him.

If the 2014 cap goes up to 50%, remember, we have to sign players from the 2009 and 2010 classes (if Devin, Gronk, Herno, Spikes, Vollmer, Chung are worth signing).
Did Mayo sign a 6 year deal? If so, his contract comes up either in 2013 or 2014.
Osi wants a front-loaded contract, though.

Hard to see the Pats giving a high pick and big money to a Condon client.
