Re: Austin Collie signed

I don't like this signing myself. Too many risks involved given his injury record.

And those risks would be???

Seriously, if he gets hurt he is gone. If he doesn't, he was a very good receiver a couple years back. He should be able to learn the sytsem and there is no cost to the Pats to speak of.

Guy wants to play ball, it is his head, his body, and his life. So his choice.

Some posters here should remember this is football, guys get paid extremely well to go out and risk life and limb.

People in the military go out and risk life and limb and get paid less then many of us.

Re: Austin Collie signed

I realize this is just a formality, but in order to make room for Collie should we assume that Wilfork was officially placed on IR?

Re: Austin Collie signed

Needs Defensive Tackle, signs Slot Receiver. Not sure if serious...

On a serious note, I sincerely hope Collie knows what he is doing given his well documented health issues.

Can Collie stop the run?

Re: Austin Collie signed

Relax everybody.

Dr. Gill and the "vaunted" The New England Patriots Medical Staff has approved of this signing.

What's the concern?

When reached for comment, Gill said that he thought Collie could use more concussions. Said Gill, "in my experience, a guy can never have too many concussions".

Re: Austin Collie signed

Curious signing. I wonder what this means for the health of Amendola.

I'm thinking that it doesn't have much of anything to do with Amendola, as Reiss thinks he is close to returning.

Is it possible that this signing could be to potentially upgrade the position of Josh Boyce? Collie seems to be able to do everything that Boyce can do and possibly better, at least during this rookie season point of his career. Of course the concussions are a concern.

I really don't see Boyce contributing too much this year. He seems to be quite limited in many aspects, and has only seen 6 targets so far. I'm not saying that I think he'll fail, but maybe Belichick feels that Collie can actually be a viable target?

Man, I wish we could get Jordy Nelson. Guys a beast.

This move has nothing to do with Josh Boyce

Josh Boyce has been getting open, it's not his fault Brady doesn't throw to him. And about the do everything better, well that's wrong. Boyce is faster than Collie.

Re: Austin Collie signed

My guess is this is just a depth move and everything injury wise is status quo from what we thought before this signing.

However, I have my own minor suspicion that this could move Sudfeld down to the inactive game day roster or put him on the practice squad. To be frank his play has not justified him being in the game I think right now Collie can help you more.

Re: Austin Collie signed

He will come in and get a TD from TB because that's what Pats & Tom do.

Re: Austin Collie signed

Can never have enough short white and injury prone wide outs. What's Blair White up to these days?

I read "Blair Whit" and thought it said "Blair Witch"... WTH... does that count as "anti literate"?

I think to make room for Collie (assuming he makes the 53) and we grab one of the DT's from the PS that VW is IR'd and Slater is IR'd or Washington cut or IR'd.

Re: Austin Collie signed

What scares me is that his contract presumably won't have any guarantees against concussion injury -- and hence he will be particularly incentivized to conceal any further concussions.

Re: Austin Collie signed

Total depth move, it has to be.

* Amendola is the top WR target on this team, despite his groin injury. He's probably another week away, but considering how much the team is paying him, if he can play he does so, and starts.

* Edelman will probably platoon with Amendola from here on out, since Edelman is actually proving to be a solid STARTING option. Both players are fragile, and rotating them every few plays and packages will ease their burden.

* Thompkins has started every game and is the one rookie Tom has the most trust in. He's not your prototypical "x" receiver, but he's performing as well as a rookie receiver can. He has a shoulder injury, but if he can tolerate the pain he is playing.

* Dobson is a 2nd round pick, therefore by merit the Patriots are going to give him every opportunity to succeed. In my opinion he'd be starting if Thompkins didn't emerge as he has. His neck injury is cause for concern though, even though he is practicing.

* Boyce hasn't shown much yet but he's an explosive player. 4th round pick.

* Slater is a premier special teamer who broke his wrist. He will be back in a few weeks.

If at least 4 receivers are healthy and ready to play Sunday, Collie could be inactive and released soon after. if not, he'll fill in.

You'd put is past our astute team doctor to not be able to pick up on concussion symptoms?

Said Gill, "I saw that he was bleeding from his right ear. But, whatever. Ya know? Football players play football".

Re: Austin Collie signed

Maybe they simply signed him to see if he can play? The guy was, after all, looking like an up-and-comer before all the concussions.

Re: Austin Collie signed

Meh.

My expectations are at zero at this point. If the others suit up, I doubt he'll even be active on gamedays.

Re: Austin Collie signed

I'm just glad this doesn't seem desperate.

Eh, I'm not sure how much you can take from that. Ocho was faster than Branch and Brady still felt better throwing the Branch. This is purely a depth move if it doesn't have any bearing on the status of Dobson and Amendola.

I'm guessing it will have a split salary (i.e., he gets paid less on IR).
