Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

I think it's more about roles in the offense. You can certainly argue that Agholor isn't as effective as he needs to be at his role (and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you). But if you just stuck Meyers out there and told him to run the routes that Agholor does, you're not going to get better results, and in fact would probably get worse.
Agholor in the Slot might be a very good thing for the Patriots. He would be going up against a lesser guy most times and he has shown that he can work the middle of the field. I have never brought into him being a deep threat ie...that Raider year never saw him as that kind of player. That said I would Draft a X-Type WR like Austin III or Tolbert for Speed.

initially I was excited about this but I had forgotten how many games this guy misses. it's really an extraordinary amount of time inactive. last 3 seasons he's only played 33/49 games....so he's been out at least 5 games/season recently. still think it's a good move but we need to temper our optimism bc odds are this guy's missing at least a game a month this season
He has played 40 of 49 not 33.

Algohor is more likely cut than extended. 22m for 2 years when parker is half that and is a much better player shows how poor thst signing was.

Yes i know parker was not a fa and cost a small amount of draft capital.
So, cut him and eat $10 million? I don't think that makes a lot of sense. Also, you can't compare a guy on the back end of his deal (who had a cap hit of 12+ last year as he finished up his guaranteed money) signed in 2019 and was acquired in a trade, to a FA you signed on a two-year deal in 2021.

Look at all the other contracts last year for WRs of the FA market for WRs in Agholor's class, and you'll see that his was far from the worst thus far. The other three got more and did less.

Nah that's not true. There's been multiple games this year and even breakdown videos of Mac clearing missing guys downfield because he checked down too early.

I’m not saying he didn’t miss seeing some plays downfield, that’s to be expected, he was a rookie. I’m saying he will throw it if he sees the opportunity. He also had one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history, and he was the best rookie QB in the league last season. The Brady haters made the same dunk and dunker” claims throughout most of his career.

The thing w/ Agholor is that he has been consistently average. PHI picked up his 5th year option but didn't sign him for a 2nd contract. Raiders got great value out of him w/ a minimum salary ($1M) prove it deal before the Pats gave him a $22M ($16M guaranteed) contract. His $15M cap hit is just too large for a team in desperate need of cap space. The OTC Valuation chart had him playing like a $4M/yr receiver. Trade him and you can free up $9M.

Can't Trade him if nobody wants him the only viable option is a restructure if he'd be up to it. Also if a Team is asking a player to restructure in year two of a contract that's not a ringing endorsement. Hey I wouldn't have given Agholor that but we're stuck with him for now. They will have to develop some kind of Scheme to get him involved same goes for Jonnu Smith. You have to get better returns on those contacts you are not playing them $5 Million.

Delete please sorry.

I like the trade but I can’t help thinking why the dolphins traded a player that some people here think he is a true #1 to a direct competitor.

In my mind, it make no sense to me. Either the dolphins are really really really stupid or they know that his harmstrings are shot and they are confident that he will not make a huge impact for us.

Or they just dumped QB money on Tyreek Hill and drafted Jaylen Waddle last year.

If Parker's hamstrings are "shot" then that would come up in the physical and allow the Patriots to nix the trade with a failed physical designation.

There are people who are definitely over-hyping Parker. I'm hoping that he passes the physical and then get's started running "The Hill". That would go a long way to helping with his hamstring issues. As would doing better with hydration as Belichick told Bourne.

Parker is a veteran presence on the outside who can help Mac continue his growth. Where he falls in the pecking order remains to be seen. The best is that he'll be Jones #1 target. The worst is that he'll be cut from the team with no cap hit other than workout bonus.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

I think it's just a matter of him being out in a numbers game with Hill and Waddle getting the bulk of the looks at WR, and the Pats offering the best compensation. We traded Bledsoe in the division, mostly because they were offering a first rounder, but also because I'm sure Drew didn't really scare Bill. And to fair, though I really like Parker and think he's sizable upgrade to Harry, no one is so terrified of him that they need to keep him away from their rival at all costs.

I don't think he's a true #1 WR, and his contract is not that of a #1. I believe it was an opportunity for the Dolphins to improve their cap and get a decent pick. From the Pats end, I think he might be an upgrade on what we have, and a compliment to the existing guys. I think there's a whole lot of people that are going to be mad here when he ends up with 500-700 yards in a complimentary role. Don't get me wrong, I like the move a lot, but he's not the second coming of Randy Moss. More like the second coming of Agholor. I expect very similar numbers.

I like getting Parker also (upgrade over Harry), but who knows why MIA did it (aside from the obvious cap relief in a deep position). It's not like these deals are like real estate, where the seller has to disclose everything about the property. I wonder how thorough a physical is at evaluating underlying issues.

I think you're correct. The Phins have Waddle (who is going to require a huge contract), and they just gave a huge contract to Hill. They also brought in Cedric Wilson from the Cowboys. But it is interesting that they've let go a lot of the veterans they had in their Receiving Corps in Allen Hurns, Will Fuller, Parker, Albert Wilson and Mack Hollins.

They have replaced like 75% of their offensive weapons this off-season. And, on paper anyways, they're pretty scary when you consider they added Mostert, Edmonds, Wilson and Hill to Waddle, Gisecki and Gaskin.

If the Dolphins decide to go with Bridgewater over Tua, they might be scary..

I agree esp. because armstead and williams will improve a bad o-line and help their run game which was bad last year. This will help set up their RPO and PA stuff.

If that happens, given all they've expended to grab Waddle and Hill, it will be an example of extreme roster mismanagement.

3 #1s, multiple other premium picks, for 2 GREAT WRs, but you don't have a QB!!!!!

Don't get me wrong--I love their WRs and wouldn't have even minded if the Patriots traded for Hill, but that's a lot of draft picks for 2 guys at 1 position when you dont have a QB for the future.
