REISS: Thornton Already Back at Work

One of the biggest issues I saw from 2022 was the horrible routes that Thornton was given. Thornton is best on routes where he's in motion the entire time. He was never a stop/start kinda guy in college. If anyone thinks he was, they're kidding themselves.

Thornton's best routes are GOs, Posts, Corners, Slants, and Crossing Routes. So many of the routes Thornton was given last year had him STOPPING. Such as buttonhooks and comebacks.

You mention about Thornton's 3 cone. What was DK Metcalf's? 7.38 with a 4.5 Short Shuttle. So, let's stop worry about THAT and worry about making sure he's being given routes that work to his strengths.
Can Mac 10 confidently throw those passes though? Seem like he didn't trust his arm or teammates so little seam route throws to TEs. Can't let those helium balls stay up there two long or CBs will bring it back the other way Mac needs to keep those moon balls down.

Put the BB Kool aid down I was singing Pickens tune all last offseason up to the Draft superior athlete we miscalculated there again.

Pickens is superior in height and weight. Just slower and not twitchy.

Pickens is a head case and will go the way of Antonio Brown. Without the numbers.

It's amazing how ridiculous you are.

- you completely ignore the Offensive Coaching debacle.
- You completely ignore the issues on the O-line. (having to use more than 3 of a single position on the O-line lends itself to a team having fewer than 5 wins). The Pats had to use 5 DIFFERENT RTs.

Your inability to acknowledge those issues and the impact that they have on a QB is quite damning of your supposed football "knowledge".

Did Thornton ever demonstrate his short pants combine speed in an actual game this past season?

10-12 lbs of NFL gear on a twig with limited muscle mass............

He is a troll. And a bad one at that

Yes, in an injury shortened season and in a completely dysfunctional offense he did.

He showed more with Zappe who played with him more often on the second team, but he showed flashes for sure.

Thornton put up big bench #s
I'm not that worried about bench presses. Part of Harry's rise up the boards came after he benched as much as Metcalf. He turned out to be soft like Charmin getting pushed around by small CB's.
George Pickens is going to have a huge season.
His YAC was the worst in the NFL. He had 100 yards of YAC of his 800 yards getting 2 yards per reception.
This is the problem with the Patriots WR drafting over the past 20 years.

If there are 4 WR prospects and 3 of them will turn out to be legit NFL starters or even WR1s, odds are we almost always pick the guy who won't be out of those 4.
The real problem is Bill neglects the position via the draft. If he drafts more guys in rounds 1-3, we'd see better results.

If he wants to average better than 1 catch pet game, he’d better be back to work!

Press coverage of Metcalf will likely get the DB steamrolled. But they have and will continue to work on super skinny Thornton. Over 50 pounds separates them. Big difference.

Math clearly isn't your strong suit. It's less than 45 lbs, actually.

Probably shouldn't chime in any more until you can do simple subtraction.

224-181 = 43 lbs.
Metcalf has seen press coverage plenty. Try watching an actual game or three. It's why his YPC has plummeted.

Looking at some of the all-22 from this year, he was open plenty.. Patricia had no clue what he was doing with the receivers and that's backed by how they all had pretty much career lows. Meyers was the only guy that had a decent year and that's just because that was Patricia's offense. The 3 most targeted guys were Meyers (96), Stevenson (88) and Henry (59). Tells me Patricia's pee-wee level offense was have the outside WRs run deep as decoys, attack the middle with Meyers & Henry and throw it short to the RB.

Thornton had 9 fewer receptions than Parker & Agholor and 13 less than Bourne. Patricia had no ****ing clue how to run an offense. It's as if he took a page or 2 out of McDaniels playbook and just spammed that all season.

Randy Moss didn't have Metcalf's size, neither did Desean Jackson or David Patten... Thornton doesn't need to be the Incredible Hulk to get open.

Skinny is irrelevant in relation to strength, he needs to be strong and there's video of him lifting heavy weights and he looks visibly bigger, he needs to be a savvy route runner and enjoys that part of the job by all accounts.

Nobody compared Thornton to Metcalf, someone earlier talked about lesser shuttle/cone times and someone said Metcalf also had less than stellar showing at the combine.

Then some disingenuous negative Nancy poster pretended someone was making a one for one comparison... when that was never the case.

Read what I wrote above... there has a long history of field stretching WR's who weren't big like Metcalf. Thorton needs to stay healthy and work on his craft, that describes 100% of rookies entering the NFL.

Randy Moss? You mean the single season GOAT WR? Is that who you're comparing Thornton to now?

Patten may be a more realistic comparison but don't forget he was an UDFA. He's also 5 inches shorter than Thornton but still outweighs him so he was much more compact. Patten peaked in 2004 with a 18.2 Y/R and 7 TDs. If Thornton duplicates those numbers then consider it a major win at this point.

DeSean Jackson is one of the most explosive WR in the history of the league. So you can forget that.

Nobody is comparing Thornton to anyone. He was a rookie with no body of work to compare anything to. That’s just you being a dishonest clod.

You have no f-ing clue what Thornton or Mac or anyone else can become. You change your QB rankings weekly based off results, you don’t know dck until long after something happens… you just pretend you do.

Thornton has talent to be successful, so does Mac. Take your meds troll.

Pickens was ranked 31st best 2022 NFL WR as a rookie. His average per reception yards was 13.4 yards.

I wish Toothpick Throrntons had that kind of season.

Devin Smith, Jaylen Waddle and some other receivers have been doing just fine in the NFL and are as thin if not thinner than Thornton
