Reactions to “The Dynasty”

Episode 8 was the best by far.

Crazy to see Belichick gush over Garopollo. I never saw him do that with Brady or Mac with the footage we have of them. Kind of interesting.

Love the flashback to Brady's feelings about Michigan. It sets the stage for the future split. In fact, that reminds me...

I feel like the series has been uneven in its focus. Why dedicate a whole episode to Hernandez (without really focusing on how it even impacted the dynasty?)? Why spend 3 episodes for the 01 season?

I ask that because

1) Hernandez has been talked about ad nauseum.

2) Same with the 01 season. I appreciate the extra footage though.

I think it's a HUGE missed opportunity to entirely skip over the 02 and 03 seasons.

The Pats missing the playoffs after 01? People wondering if they should have stayed with Brady? And the uncertainty around them? Getting blown out by the Bills with Bledsoe? The team winning on defense in the 03 regular season, but Brady saving them in the 03 super bowl? You can't skip that. Call me stupid, but I think you can argue those years laid the foundation for the start of the Brady/Belichick split 20 years later. Feel free to disagree with me.
I don't think it was the '02 and '03 seasons that laid the foundation. Brady was still raw until that '03 SB. They were winning. According to Pioli, the winning was like a narcotic, and they all became addicted. So much, that "you would do everything and anything to stop the fear of losing. Anything."

I think it started to go south AFTER Spygate. By all accounts Bill changed. Pioli said Bill "distanced himself from those of us that were closest to him." By then Tom was a 3-time SB winner, w/ a perfect regular season, yet Moss, Welker, Stallworth, all say Bill was brutal with Tom.

I think that's why they spent so little time on '03-'04 SBs. The Hernandez episode leads to the JimmyG one. I agree with you, it was shocking to see Bill slobber all over Jimmy for a regular season win, yet act like a **** after a championship win.

Another pattern that's been exposed by the series. Belichick stopped talking to Kosar in CLE. He apparently stopped talking to Brady as well. We know he stopped talking to Mac this past season. I'm sorry but that's the most immature thing an adult can do, nvm a HC with his QB1. He'll obviously never change.

Looking at the previews for the next 2 episodes it kind of validated how my thinking on Brady’s exit evolved a bit. The GOAT was never sticking around even if he got the contract he wanted.

He left because Bill is an a-hole and would never change…and Tom had enough of that crap. Hard to imagine a lot of employees would do something different if their boss treated them like that.
You said Bill stopped talking to Brady. Like Wow. I can't wait till next week, where you watching these previews?

So Bill stops talking to:

Kosar --------> Brady --------> Mac Jones

What a ****ing baby.

We'll see what if any new info the next two episodes have. But surprisingly they actually hinted a little at Brady being the one who changed he was widely considered the GOAT after 49 and 51 and he wanted to be treated differently specifically he wanted the deal that would take him until 45 was basically what they said and obviously was true just surprised to hear the Documentary state it like that.

Bill's an ******* but he always was one and he was just doing what he always did and Brady put up with for so long because he knew it got the best out of him. He may not have needed it anymore but he was still going to get it.

The Documentary is painting it after 2016 something changed yet they still have 2 SB appearances one win coming up so even if Bill should have caved and gave him a deal to 45 not doing so still got some pretty good play out of Brady.

Had we gave him the deal through 45 we probably get the SB appearance and win that the Bucs got but there's no guarantees we get all 3 ('17, '18, & '21) like Brady did get. We know by BB not caving that it created a chip on shoulder and it obviously greatly impacted what happens next.

So far the media has over hyped the BS that doc would reveal either these next two episodes are going to be brutal or things like this are getting overplayed too. I'm not thinking there's going to much new in the next 2 episodes either.

Who cares about the media. I've learned a lot from just listening to Pioli, Ernie, Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Branch, Lloyd, and even Slater.

Yeah I like the way Bruschi put it with the wringing of the towel and either you could put up with or you couldn't. Brady knew it too and based on the documentaries timelines it's not until after ring 5 that he starts to change.

Amazing isn’t it.

Saw this one in the NY post. Patriots ‘Dynasty’ Episodes 9 and 10 review: Tom Brady-Bill Belichick strife finally took New England down

From his teammates and Kraft himself…

Winning no longer masked the tension between Brady and Belichick, teammates reveal, and go-betweens were needed due to their lack of direct communication.

And yet somehow the Patriots beat the Rams in Super Bowl 53.

Basically it was a silent relationship,” Kraft said. “Before there had been tension, but now it was just totally dysfunctional … He represented a threat to Bill’s full power. He didn’t want Tommy there.”

Kosar complained about the playcalling - they had him running bootlegs despite his declining mobility

Kosar was washed but perhaps they could have managed it better
Can't believe all the defenses of this guy here. He was done. They won when he was pulled or when he was out. He gets credit for winning games when he had them down by 14+, 3 points scored total until the 4th qtr. when Testaverde came in. I'm a firm believer that good QBing makes a huge difference, and that's been evident in all of Belichick's teams. But almost especially so with the Kosar/Testaverde divide.

They weren't winning another SB post 2020 so I don't even know why people are complaining. Or Brady, for that matter. It was over. Things end.

Don't be silly if we had Brady we probably do.

Had we locked him up after SB51 until age 45 I think there's a good chance Brady probably still goes to 3 and wins 2 of them but there's a chance things play out differently too. No way to know but what we do know is Bill just kept being Bill and we get what we got and Brady carried tag chip to Tampa and based on that he probably gets 7 either way.

This is just more proof that Kraft doesn't know how to run a team. A threat to Belichick's powr. Yes, of course. The goal is to rebuild the team. The goal is not to squander picks on vet WRs because your QB -- who spent the summer on the Phins' owner's yacht -- wants more weapons.

Of course he was a threat. Of course it was dysfunctional. If Kraft wanted to keep Brady and get rid of Belichick, he should've done that. He would've played Brady into mediocrity on an old and aging team. The best thing to come out of that would've been not wasting the 2021 #1 draft pick on Mac Jones. I have to admit, in hindsight, this would've been much better (though a sad ending for Brady).

We don't know any of that ****. I hate how some fans make every little thing Bill does into a positive; even the bad decisions.

He got rid of the greatest player ever, said player went on to continue his winning ways while Bill **** the bed and destroyed the Patriots dynasty. That is the only thing we know for a fact. Everything else is a fairy tale people fabricate to feel better about Bill's biggest ****up.

Give me a break with this nonsense.

I'm going to wait until I actually see the episodes but damn.

I think we need to see the context first because if you're Kraft and you see that much dysfunction and you think Bill is the cause then how do you justify the decisions you made.
Because he thought incorrectly that Bill was going to coach a lot longer and Brady was too told to be any good.

How do you win when you can't force the Bills to punt?
Like that game would have gone that way. Have we all forgotten the amount of times opposing teams **** the bed because they tried too hard thinking about the Pats offense was going to score no matter what?

Yes things end. The problem here is Bill actively did the ending.
