RB3 is Who?

I dont know how anyone can watch last night's extended run from the backups, and think anything but "Lan Larison" in response to this question.

Jam Miller looks like a power back with a lot of learning to do. I dont see the Damien Harris comps at all, other than where they went to school. Lan Larsion, 3 times kept drives alive on 3rd/4th down, fighting for the first. He, to my eyes, looked like a pro-ready player who you can have a package for on Sundays. Sneaky power, people will comp him with Burkhead for obvious reasons, really just looks like a bigger Kevin Faulk to me.
Yup. That 2nd Training Camp is worth a spot on the 53 because what was learned and reinforced.

Im hardly a Lan Larison truther on top of it. Kid showed me he belongs in the nfl.

Every year, I'm amazed at how many players do so well against 3rd stringers that they clearly belong in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong. I will celebrate if Larison is the first patriot this century to be a roster contributor after spending his rookie season on IR.

Come on, you've been watching football for a long time. Fighting for first downs, field awareness, thats something that you can glean despite any potential competition.

Again, I'm no Lan Larison truther, I was totally on the fence about him going into this year, and didn't see what others saw last year in camp.

In my mind, Larison is slightly ahead of Miller for the RB3 (and likely 53 man roster spot). I’ll admit, I was a big Burkhead fan, and it’s hard not to be reminded of Rex when you see him play. With that said, I do really like Miller. I think he can be a quality NFL RB. But as of today I think Miller has a better chance of clearing waivers and being a priority PS addition for the Patriots. That’s really what it comes down to for me. I want to keep both guys.

You can bring a RB up from the PS.

They elevated T Jennings and Ernest Johnson three times each last year as the third back.
And any team can sign them at any point. That’s not a plan.

I think they both would clear waivers , big of tff he sts concern keep Miller. He was drafted and Larisoj already missed a year with an injury.
Larison runs hard, abd is easy to be a fan of.

We've been through this. They lost Mark Robinson and Thayer Munford off the practice squad last year, and both were available again a few weeks later, Munford even ended up back.

I agree Morton and Larison might be vulnerable, but even Vrabel is saying the team is thin overall.

Makes this strategy even more attractive.

You can’t use a history where you didn’t do something and make it facts for what will happen of you do.
If the Patriots go into the season with 2 RBs relying on acting their 3rd every week, they will lose that guy, even if to an upcoming opponent.
What does it say to this player that you value that he can’t get paid real money, and you make him free to any other team because you want to keep a different player who isn’t even good enough to be active?

Being thin makes this plan more stupid. You can’t afford to have a guy you need poached. And who are you keeping in order to execute this hare brained scheme that into enough to make your roster? There is no gain and only potential loss

And yes we have been through this and you are wrong. Losing 2 players from the ps in one year is not prove you won’t lose any.

I agree it might not be wise to cut Larison. He might get picked up.

But none of the third TE's will. Same with the inside linebackers. Muma, Jacobs, Obiazor. Only Britt might be a risk.

There's plenty of room on this roster.

Added: what's funny is I am trying to find a way to keep your pet, Boutte, because the other six are sticking.

Boutte is 2/3 among WRs not 7

You have been arguing that you should cut a player who will be active on game day to keep an extra guy who will be inactive.

Yes

Why do nearly every single week to they bring up practice squad players to be active and sit roster players? Often three weeks in a row.

And multiple times they do this with different players over the course of the year.

Explain why they would do this and not roster them over the players who sit nearly every week, and you have your answer.

It's done anyway. Just adjust the rabbit ears.

To me, Larison definitely has chemistry with Devito and is the better receiving RB.

Miller has something too. From what I have seen, he comes off as the better all purpose RB.

Because of injuries.
They have never taken a guy who they expect to be active and cut him so he could hopefully be on the practice squad exposed.

Because of injuries.

Because of injuries.

By all means show the big list you have of players who were cut and then activated weeks 1,2 and activated while every one ahead of them was healthy.

You are literally saying I’m going to cut and risk losing a guy I need on the ford so I can keep a guy I don’t want playing. Put down the pipe.

I haven't followed it all closely enough to say, to be honest. Whichever option offers the best prospect of becoming what we have so far erroneously expected Henderson to become would be my choice, So whichever option can block, run a route, and complete a play without closing his eyes at the critical moment and running into the nearest player of whichever team would be my choice. In other words, I see little chance of Henderson of filling the role we had initially hoped he might fill, so lets look for a Plan B.

The first week last year they elevated inside LB Mark Robinson for special teams when there was no injury to anyone. They even sat an outside linebacker, Afernee Jennings as a healthy LB scratch.

Robinson was elevated week 2 & 3 as well, and then the Jets claimed him. So the Patriots just brought up another JAG. Nobody on the roster fulfilled this role, while they kept players who hadn't dressed most of those weeks (Chism/Wallace/mostly Bryant).

The Jets cut Robinson a few weeks later. This is the level of player we are talking.

They bring the same player up three weeks in a row. Yes it's often initially because of injury, but the player called up is now the multiweek backup, while someone sits on the roster as a healthy scratch.

This happens all the time and I gave an example. Why are you so stubborn?

This is the way of the entire NFL.

I’m very happy with Larison catching the ball, content with him running, but nervous with him picking up the blitz. I recall one bad whiff last night. Did anyone catch any more positive reps?

It is not true that we had no injuries. Gonzalez, and Woods were out.

So we lost the player. Great plan.

I’m not stubborn, you idea is stupid, most everyone who has commented on it agrees.

None of the players mentioned would be claimed from the PS. So my vote is that none of them make it to the roster, but each week they will call up one of them. Which one depends on injury status.

Don't sleep on Hassan. If the main objective is to not get your QB killed by a rookie attempting high-end pass pro in the NFL for the first time, then you go with a known veteran. Let Larison and Miller develop on the PS.
