PostGame Thread 2026 OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD: Patriots Beat Eagles 24-21

Immediate Postgame Reactions
What was the story with the drunk lady that Burton interviewed who was promoting flag football?

Yeah I had to change the channel it was that bad. Embarr-ass-ing, really. And I mean the whole thing.

I think that Chism and Williams have done enough to show that they have a future in New England.

I didn't agree with Chism on the roster last year as the 6th WR, but this year I think another team could poach him.

If we want him for the future, Chism is just the kind of developmental player to have on the 53.

OFFENSE (25)
3 QB
3 RB
1 FB
6 WR
9 OL
3 TE

Here we go round the mulberry again…

6 WR

Brown
Doubs
Douglas
Boutte
Hollins
Williams
Chism

But that’s 7, so who’s out?

Chism is much more consistent than K. Williams.

Wiliams hasn’t shown any ability as a WR except his release on a go ball but the guy can’t run a route to save his life.

Williams has shown a few flashes this year. Problem is that with so many WRs it’s hard for any of them to get a lot of focus to show their growth.

It’s Tyquan all over again sort of. Speed is blinding people.

Speed doesn’t do you good if the only thing you can do is running straight.

I don’t know how Williams will see the field in the regular season. A.J Brown, Doubs, Boutte and Hollins are all in front of him. Douglas is a pure slot so Williams won’t take his spot.

if it was me, I would keep Chism over Williams because he is the only backup slot. I don’t think Williams will matter with how little he will see the field.

The original plan IMO was to draft Williams and hope that he was gonna be good enough to replace Boutte this year. But he clearly isn’t.

I don't know how you can say this. Boutte didn't match Kyle Williams' number of NFL catches until week 8 of his second season. He didn't match Kyle Williams' number of TDs until the last game of his second season. If people can be patient with Boutte, why can't they be patient with Williams?

I've been doing some research on Amari Gainer because he's stood out to me the last couple of games and it's quite interesting.

He spent 4 years at Florida State and two years at UNC (at the same time as Maye).

Interestingly he was largely an off ball linebacker there, predominently playing WILL but also MIKE on Occasion. In his last year at FSU, he had almost 3 times as many snaps as a linebacker than he did an EDGE rusher. In his last year at UNC those numbers were reversed and he became much more of an edge rusher.

He had an outstanding forty at his pro day of 4.52. The rest of his numbers while not elite, are NFL worthy.

He played LB for the Raiders in pre-season and did very well in '24 although not well enough to make the team aside from one game. It's interesting because during the draft, there was reports that we tried to trade up for Trey Moore from Texas who was a LB/EDGE hybrid so maybe Gainer is that guy.

I don't know if he'll make the final roster - he was playing with the threes after all, but I hope he's a PS keeper. Played very well yesterday.

Our backup skill position players looked good.

Vildor looked good as well.

Our interior backups on O and D looked terrible. Got pushed around, missed assignments and poor technique. FO really did a poor job assembling these backups.
Two of our top backup interior OL went injured last game. You can only be so deep before a couple of injuries really starts hurting.

Vrabel to Bryce Baringer tonight on the sidelines: “Ever hear of Wally Pipp?”
-----------
I was at that preseason game in Philly when Edelman returned the punt for a TD his rookie year and the guy in front of me asked,
" Where do you ( Patriots) find players like that?" When I said he was a converted QB, he just shook his head...

Everyone has depth in someplaces and not others. What are the most worrisome positions? OL has to be one right?

Found the incessant chatter between Zo and the McCourty twins insufferable.
They do not announce the game, unfortunately.
Very difficult to watch with the current style of the announcers.

Williams has 2 catches on 6 targets yesterday, of course one is a long TD. The Kyle Williams paradox in 1 game.

Chism Reg+Post season 2025: 4 targets and 4 receptions.
Chism Pre Season career 2025-26: 19 targets, 17 catches

Douglas is a free agent after this season. Based on tape I personally believe there is no drop off to Chism. He might actually be the better player. The entire caveat with that is Chism rarely gets a chance to go against 1's but he just gets open all the time whenever he plays.

Chism staying is a no brainer with Douglas' contract situation.
Williams has to stay also, they are not dumping a 3rd round pick with his release and speed at age 23. Boutte is the odd man out if they go with 6 but they will only trade him so they'll carry 7 until a team needs a wr during the season. Boutte is a complementary player but he belongs in an NFL rotation. He's gone after this year so you are not losing Chism or Williams for him.

Does that include the hilarious spin cycle?
Lomu Got caught on that stunt but to be fair the actual sack the was on the QB. Staring at a wide open Chism and just doesn't throw it. Yeah safety coming down late but should have thrown already and window is still huge even at this point.
