Ravens vs Pats

As I said in another thread, the key to this game will probably come down to Gronk vs. Ray Lewis because that is a match up that the Pats can exploit early and often. I saw them highlight Brent Celek vs. Lewis on ESPN and Celek burnt Lewis multiple times with seam routes and delayed routes over the middle. Celek finished the game with 8 catches for 157 yards mostly because Lewis just couldn't keep up with him. I like this match up a lot.

If the Pats can exploit this favorable match up, it will open up a bunch on offense. This Ravens' defense isn't what it used to be especially Lewis at least in coverage. Their biggest strength right now is turnovers (they have six in two games). Otherwise, their defense has been average. If the Pats can exploit their defense with high percentage passes, they could shock a lot of people by picking apart this defense. In fact, the Cards' defense the Pats faced may have been a better defense.

That said, this game is no cake walk. This is a game the Pats could easily lose. But I don't think their defense is nearly as fearsome as many people think it is. In fact, by the end of the year, we may realize the Pats have the better defense.

I think they could put pollard on him rather than lewis....and it would be great if winslow can catch a few passes

I don't know. Celek was picking apart Lewis before Pollard went down. Celek had receptions for 19 and 21 yards that Pollard ended up getting the tackle. He also burnt Ed Reed for 28 while Pollard was on the field.

This is one of the must wins on the schedule. Obviously at this point there's a good chance we'll still be okay if we lose but you gotta figure for the AFC top seed, this and Houston are the games we'll have to win. Purely speculating and looking ahead right now but win those 2 games, 12-4 would probably be good enough, 13-3 definitely will IMO.

How can this be a must win for the Patriots?....Before the season, most of us chalked this up as a loss on the schedule.......We are competing for top seed with the Ravens, however, they are 1-1,also......Just sayin'

people who think a week 3 game is a "must win" have no idea what they are talking about.

Short passes across middle with welker and gronk...if brady gets enough time back there that is. but if the ravens bring the blitz a lot..they will pay..ravens that is

Historically, the Ravens have been able to get to Brady without needing to bring the blitz. I will feel better if Welker is the hot route - that is tried and true to beat the blitz.

Wouldn't it be sweet if the Ravens decide to take Gronk out of the game and Winslow comes out on fire, torching Lewis 1 on 1.

Absolutely. I'd love to see them go into Buffalo next week without Hernandez and Gronk. That would be awesome.

I am hopeful for a Pats win but not holding my breath. The Arizona game was a heartbreaker. Conservative coaching at the end cost us and then Ghost chokes.

I will be honest and say that no matter how good the Pats are we aren't getting another ring as long as Josh is our OC. His stubbornness cost us in 07 and his bad karma jinxed us last year. Ok that may be a stretch.

Our O has had no creative plays since Weis. Everyone knows what we're gonna do and a decent team is gonna play us hard and have a good chance of beating us,

My preseason projection was a 12-4 record and quick exit out of the playoffs. Gonna stick to that for now until I see much better play by this team.

Not so sure i agree with your historical comment. In 6 games, 5 of which we won, Brady has been sacked 14 times, including those by blitz.
We also have scored an average of 23 ppg and were only under 23 once.
This team also is the worst personell Baltimore has put on the field defensively in a decade.

You do realize that since Weis left the Patriots have been:
#1 in wins (more than 10% better than #2)
#1 in points scored
#2 in total yards
#1 in fewest turnovers (20 less)

So if you are correct, I guess creativity doesn't matter, huh?

By the way during Weis' years, the Patriots were
2nd in wins
10th in points scored
18th in total yards
9th in fewest turnovers

Not sure the offense should be pining to bring back the Weis schemes and playcalling.

I am hopeful

really? No creative plays since Weis? :bricks:

While the Ravens are a very capable team, I doubt we'll be gifting them that many turnovers in the red zone. While Ed Reed is a savy and disruptive vet, TB and company can easily play keep away with him and find receivers open. While Aaron Hernandez might have been our most versatile weapon and probably a player we were going to key the offense around. We've had a full week to prepare an offense without him present.

Additionally, the ravens got turnovers and stil llsot the game. Their pass rush was not effective and if you give Brady time, he'll be able to pick apart any defense. Plus, we have a legitamate run game that the ravens will have to respect (though they are faitly stout against the run).

Will we crush them, probably not. Can we lose this game? Definitely. Can we win this game? We certainly can and it should make for good entertainment (if a bit nervous for us patriot fans).
Brady has had multi interception games vs the ravens D and it usually gives him trouble. Not saying it will happen but possible.

I think the key match-up is in fact Lewis vs. Ridley. They are not going put Lewis on Gronk, considering how much weight Lewis has lost. Instead, I think they will try to have Lewis spy on Ridley to disguise his loss of lateral movement and hope Ridley comes in between the tackles. If the game-planning is smart, there will be plenty of off-tackle runs by Ridley.

Wait. Weis left after the 04 season. So the Pats have been rolling on for 7 years winning more games than anyone without him...........oh, but Horton from the Cards on Monday said they knew everything that was coming so that's our real problem now.

I smell a Jets troll poser in your post.

They are not going put Lewis on Gronk

I've been saying the same thing all week.

Not sure why so many think this, especially after Celek tore him a new one last week.

I really doubt they'd be 1/2 that stupid.

I am a Pats fan. How many Super Bowls have we won since Weis left? None and both times it was on the O. We gave up 17 points in 07 amd 21 in 12. Our high flying O should have easily put more than that on the board both times. Winning games is great but they mean crap unless you win the 19th game

Really worried about our offensive line vs ngata. Also Dean Pees knows the pats/brady's tendencies and weaknesses so should another thing favoring them.

If the Oline can do it's job..i think we win..if not...we lose IMO
