Rap: Mayo is the new HC

Oh sweet summer child.
Lol it's a new era
It is what it is
BB couldn't get the team to relevancy after Brady left and got let go since there was no improvement after a promising 2021
Let's see what Mayo does. Not a fan of this hire since I've been on record saying if you're going to let go of BB start fresh don't hire within.

Absolutely awful to not even conduct a search. Absolutely awful to hire a coach without even having a GM.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but I think we are in for a long 5-10 years.

Congrats to the anti-Belichick mafia on here: you got what you wanted; now you’re going to get what you deserve.
This feels like a disaster. In what universe do you hire a coach before an effing GM????

I understand the concern, but Mayo and Singletary are not really comparable coaching prospects.
Actually they’re pretty similar. Mike was a linebacker on the 1985 bears defense. Jerod was a linebacker on our Super Bowl teams. Singletary got fired after 2 years and coached high school and proceeded to win only 1 game in 2 years

On 9/22/2001, Mo Lewis ended Drew Bledsoe's day and a little known QB jogged to the huddle. From our seats in section 115 (i think), I turned to my Dad and said "Well, let's see how this guy does." I am going to take the same approach with Mayo. I am not going to ***** how I hate the move, nor celebrate the second coming of ************. Time will tell.
Ever hear of Babe Dahlgren? Me either....he's the guy who replaced Lou Gehrig.

I'm not wild about it but...as a wise man once said, it is what it is.

At this point, all I can do it wait and see. I dint expect them to go 11-6 and make they playoff next season but I expect not to have the worst offense (or even bottom third) next year with the D staying more or less the same, if not better. (And, you know, a better overall ST operation).

The only thing we can do I hope for the best.

I feel like people aren't getting that Bill was fired as GM more than as head coach. The odds Mayo is a better tactician out of the gate than Bill is zero, but that's not why Bill was fired. It was so someone else could be GM and get some goddamn talent, especially on offense.

If they hire an internal GM it was probably whoever Bill vetoed to keep taking defense and special teams jamokes in the last draft.

a rookie QB with a rookie HC, what can go wrong?
With that same approach the Texans would have not drafted Stoud or not hired Ryans.
If the QB is good and the coach is good, it'll be a good team.
All the feedback on Mayo shows he's a top tier head coach prospect.
Mayo has 13 years of NFL experience between playing and coaching; he mentored under a hall of fame coach.
Now we will see if he's really as good as his pedigree suggests.

I’ll give him 2 years until he’s gone
I think he gets 3 if he's bad
2 years is not enough time
Unless of course we winning 3-5 games back to backb

GM is in house already, boys.
Only way they do that immediately is if Wolf also has an automatic promotion clause for Bill's departure like Mayo did. Otherwise the Krafts are beholden to the Rooney Rule.

However, I think it would make a lot of sense if he does have one. He's got a good reputation around the league and has had teams interested in him for open roles over the last few years but has never gone anywhere; he's just stayed put in his role that seemed to be 2 places removed from being in charge. That always struck me as odd - why was this guy staying here and not chasing better opportunities?

The reason is probably because he knew he was guaranteed a premier GM job as soon as Bill left.

Pretty much a complete unknown as hc so hard to say right now.

Jerod is a born leader though. He showed almost from day one here, I remember very early in his career posters would mention things in live game reports that indicated he was destined to be a leader. And he’s obviously been on that track as a coach given the feedback.

Good luck Jerod! Im hoping for the best and if he does crash and burn at least we’ll get a couple more top 10 picks for the next guy lol We will need a stronger offensive mind though over bob. im thinking jmd is an easy choice. He has made matt cassel and mac jones look like potential franchise qbs.

Can't get worse than 4 wins fam
Of course it can. 4 wins, 2,5,6,8 is all the same thing.
It’s a matter of how far you are away from becoming a good team and that isn’t measured in wins and losses necessarily. Improvement in the nfl is rarely linear and gradual. Teams improve because they are pretty close big have a fatal flaw, then they fix it. That fatal flaw can have you stuck in mediocrity or looking awful.
Honestly this team now has nothing to point to that can give you hope or has proven successful in the past.
We gave wiped out the winning history and are starting over with the least experienced people out there
It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

I'd be okay if they end up being a 8-9 or 9-8 team next season
Ideally I hope we are next years 2023 Texans
