I feel like people aren't getting that Bill was fired as GM more than as head coach.

It blows my mind that people can’t see that.

It wasn’t his coaching that was a problem but how he ran the organization

I feel like people aren't getting that Bill was fired as GM more than as head coach. The odds Mayo is a better tactician out of the gate than Bill is zero, but that's not why Bill was fired. It was so someone else could be GM and get some goddamn talent, especially on offense.

If they hire an internal GM it was probably whoever Bill vetoed to keep taking defense and special teams jamokes in the last draft.

First it’s bill hiring his old defensive coordinator as his oc to develop a guy picked to be the franchise qb now it’s Kraft hiring Bills 37 year old linebackers coach to rebuild the franchise.

Why is 2 years not enough? Patriots made the playoffs in 2021. 6 Super Bowls in 9 Super Bowl appearances only bought Belichick 2 years; I don’t see why Mayo would deserve more.

I am going to try to remain cautiously optimistic. Really don't know what to make of it. Will he be another Bill disciple and try to be like Bill and fail or will he try to be his own man? The one thing that gives me optimism is he is the first head coach member of the Belichick coaching tree that was a former player. He has a far different perspective of the game than guys like McDaniels or Patricia.

I just hope he doesn't believe in the Belichick philosophy of having a strong defense and an offense that is efficient and doesn't make mistakes and waiting for the other team to make the mistakes. I just don't think that works in today's NFL.

I think we need to know more about who will be the GM, will the Pats spend money now that Belichick is gone, and who are the coordinators and will they be able to have say in their own staff.

I did hear Breer compare Mayo to McVay. He said that the Rams saw McVay as an innovative head coach and thought he could be a really successful head coach one day. Back in 2017, they weren't 100% sure he was ready for the job, but they felt that if they didn't make the move then, they would never have a chance to hire McVay as head coach. It worked out really, really well for the Rams. Hopefully it will work out for the Pats.

Absolutely awful to not even conduct a search. Absolutely awful to hire a coach without even having a GM.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but I think we are in for a long 5-10 years.

While I’m uninspired by the Mayo selection, It will at least be interesting to see how he fills out the staff.

Have to imagine both Belichick kids are out, along with Judge, Achord, Klemm, Troy.

Could see Covington elevated to DC, whole new offensive staff (don’t see Mcdaniels working for Mayo) with hopefully a better and brand new Offensive System.
