Pre-Free Agency 2023

I like the idea of Cory on a one year, prove-it deal. If he's no good, we ditch him and next year's free agency period should have some much better options at WR.
Good idea, and I like that scenario as well. Only thing is if he's no good BB will cut him. Hopefully that won't happen if we sign him. We are going to need players like Davis. Boy, I can't wait until camp starts without the last season coaching drama.. having a REAL offense is going to make so much difference...

I like that scenario because a guy like Corey Davis would draw the meat of the coverage and free up Meyers more so than Parker would.
Absolutely, and imagine if we had Davis on one side Thornton on the other.. talk about speed Davis has plenty.. Myers would be open all day..

Exactly in that scenario Meyers would shine but he won't shine in the current scenario if he's considered your #1 WR. When the Patriots signed Agholor two years ago they signed him if off that deep threat Raider year a guy who took the Top off the D. It's funny how Bourne played more like the deep threat that year with a long of 75 I hope Bob goes back to that year when he's evaluating Bourne an *asterisk* should be put on last year regarding Bourne's progress or lack their of.

Absolutely positively!!!!!! As aghlor was pretty good that season as well.. Myers isn't a number 1 true, he's more of the Brandon lafell type. That is who his game reminds me of. Lafell and Myers are pretty much same types of players.

Now Bourne wich I love, high energy, great locker room guy.. has deceptive speed and great hands. I just know it in my patriots heart of hearts that BOB is going to have creativity, ingenuity, scheming, accountability, and if we can get back in the top ten in the red area we'll be a top 10 offense again..

What killed our Offense was the lack of spacing by our WR's and TE's in their respective Routes. The straw that broke the camels back was when both TE's took each other out I bet the Opposing Defense got a kick out of that. Patricia should have been released after that game.

You had the AZ DC laughing openly about the Pats offensive scheme. That speaks for itself.

You can't make it up looks like a DC is calling the plays boy did that backfire.

Maybe he should have been more concerned about stopping our offensive scheme than laughing at it... Didn't end well for Arizona now, did it?

My point stands.

Lol yeah I know seriously it was like watching the Benny hill.show last season at times.. nerve racking when we got into the red area.. maybe the TEs were told to tackle by the defensive coordinator calling offense.

HE’s the guy who got the only job Matt Patricia interviewed for this off-season. HE’s the guy Sean Payton intimidated earlier this week would have to sign off on adding Patricia as a defensive assistant. Given the pity piece in the Globe this week, it does sound like Vance Joseph has had the last laugh.

Last year was a great one for the periodic reminder of the role of speed in real-life WRs. (believe it or not, last year we had at least 3 guys with 4.4 and better speed.... although some of those numbers might be too dated to trust.)

Thornton has to slow down to avoid violating the laws of physics, but that didn't always get him anywhere, especially when he wasn't on the field. He had to be healthy = cut the chances in half for the missed games. There had to be time for the play to develop, he'd have to catch the ball, Jones had to target him, and had to throw him something catchable. Add all of it up and he ends up with like 250 yards of production and an under 50% catch percentage.

Same with the other speedsters and that does include not just Agholar but also Davante Parker - who was, after all, our second-best receiver, 530 some yards and a 17 yard per catch average, but that's just not a big enough total. His problem was, Mac wouldn't throw to him. Get some rapport bw him and Jones, and fix any play design issues tripping up non-Meyers receivers, and I start to wonder whether there's this mythical "true number 1" who would not have been sabotaged last year by lack o' O-line, weird O coaching, and Mac's regression.

All that to say
1. speed's good but we had that last year (lest we forget)
2. wow man it blows my mind how many variables there suddenly seem to be when we dont have Tom Freakin Brady
3. We have 1 guy who can scrape the bottom of "number 1 numbers" and that's Meyers. I don't think that's necessarily lack o talent at WR, but I WANT it to be, that's the easiest answer.
4. But it's conspicuous that the dependable great route runner keeps leading the team, including when we have a guy with a 17 ypc average. I mean, what if these guys are pretty good?

The reliable ones were the slowpokes, including the best route-runner evah, Jakobi Meyers, but also, when given the chance, Bourne. I don't know what deceptive speed means, but Bourne gets open and he catches the ball, so okay.

What if we can't at this point use real speed?

I have to admit, part of me is petrified that we'll make everybody offseason-happy and acquire "a true number 1" and not get squat out of him. But don't mind me. I see a big ball of variables (coaching, scheme, QB, all not really proven), and I worry we'll throw all this draft capital at a trade, tie up cap space, then find out we still can't get crap out of him.

But that's not adding anything, it's just a parade of fears and neuroses. I'm not that Mandalorian character going "this is not the way." Standing pat feels pretty suspect too.

What about productivity?

Nowhere in his career has Bourne been productive. Meyers has been productive. That has to count for something. It puts the lie to things like speed and hands or whatever.

Everything you said is completely irrelevant.

The conversation was about Vance Josephs snickering comments about the Patriots offensive scheme. Then loses the game because his defense couldn't stop them when it mattered.

Do try to keep up... It's embarrassing to the community as a whole when such a fine rant completely misses the mark

Do you watch much patriots football? KB amassed over 800 yards with a real offense, the year before that as a role player in the Shanahan offense he had over 600 yards.. sorry if he's not randy moss.he wasn't involved last season.. the guy was a playmaker for us.. a reciever last I checked has to have hands, speed.. so where is the lie?

The conversation was dumb. Losing their starting QB 3 plays in and a fumble returned for a TD had a hell of a lot more to do with the result than the performance of the Pats offense.

Plus, do you think the result of that game matters now? Joseph has a job - the job Patricia wanted. Try to keep up bud. Joseph won that war.

whether or not the conversation was "dumb"is a matter of opinion. I thought it was fairly interesting.

And ask Kliff Kingsbury and the entire cardinal staff that was let go if those results matter now...

again i say, do try to keep up... this is quickly becoming embarrassing for you
