Players can be signed to the squad at 12 tomorrow. Assuming they clear waivers, I'd like to see the Pats sign the following players

Eric Kettani will apparently sign
I'd try to sign up Yeatman or Smith
Maybe Silvestro, Lavarious, Carter, Farnham or Medlin

However I'd like to sign as many of these interior lineman as possible and let Scarnecchia have at them.

Tim Barnes
Maurice Hurt
Andrew Jackson

Zane Taylor
Jake Kirkpatrick

And Ahmad Black

Just from players from Patriots camp I'm hoping for Cohen, Richard, Farnham, Yeatman and Austin to make it back to us. I'm doubting we get many of them though.

Cohen is not eligible (he played 14 games in 2009).

If Farnham isn't claimed, I'd hope they bring him back; he could take over for Branch next year. Ditto for Yeatman and Ross Ventrone.

Hey, what about Eric Moore? It's hard to imagine since he's played for 5 seasons, but I don't think he's ever broken the 9-game barrier to lose PS eligibility!

CT is correct. Cohen's played too much. I still hope he can catch on somewhere though.

He hasn't used up his eligibility for being on an active roster?

If I'm not mistaken, unless they changed the rules, you have to be in your first three seasons to qualify for the PS.

Whats the limit 8?
I think Tarpinian ends up there after we cut him to sign a G or TE.
The 8 I'd like to see:

Tarpinian
Smith
Yeatman (yes both)
Kettani
Austin
Carter
Richard (we have a lot of DL though, so maybe not and another OL instead)
Ventrone

Really? I thought Billy Yates was on the PS in his 4th year.

Moore was on PS's in 2006,2007 and 2009.

Found this online, I assume it's accurate.

Clarifying NFL Practice Squad Rules in the New CBA (and What They Mean for Danario Alexander) > insideSTL.com > STL Rams

“The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than two (2) previous seasons on a Practice Squad:

(i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and

(ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine (9) regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s).

An otherwise eligible player may be a practice squad player for a third season only if the Club by which he is employed that season has at least 53 players on its Active/Inactive List during the entire period of his employment.”

An “accrued season” occurs when a player is on either the active or inactive list for six or more games over the course of a season.

The “active list” is the game day active roster of now 46 (since the third quarterback was recently made an “active” player)

The “Inactive list” consists of the guys that are made inactive on game day to get down to the active list

The “free agent players” portion means that players have to go through waivers to be put on the practice squad. Once the waived player clear waivers, he’s a free agent, and can be signed to the waiving team’s practice squad (pp. 155-6)

Moore was on PS's in 2006,2007 and 2009.

Ah, thanks, that crosses him off. (I had interpreted the earlier "first 3 seasons" mention as meaning first 3 seasons in the league, rather than on practice squads. Didn't realize Moore had that much PS service.)

More accurately: teams may dress a total of 46 players, regardless of the number of QBs.

A third QB now counts as active, but, OTOH, there are no longer any restrictions on his use as there used to be (e.g., if QB3 came in before the fourth quarter, QB1 and QB2 could not return to the game).

Now that Yeatman, Silvestro, Lavarious and Carter are signed up, how about some of the lineman I suggested. Kettani should also be signed.

Yeatman hasn't signed. Dolphins claimed him. Looks like Alge is our next choice at tight end.

Or, as I pointed out, Solder as a 6th TE if he's not starting.

I'd take a flyer on Marty Gilyard, if he isn't claimed, for the practice squad. This is considering the ages of Ocho and Branch as well as Wes's uncertain contract status that will hopefully be taken care of very soon

He played in 11 games last year, so I don't think he's eligible.
