Two... Roger Rosengarten was starting for the Ravens. The Ravens and Chiefs were ranked #1 and #2 in the entire NFL in sacks last year. Both rookie tackles gave up one sack, but otherwise played great.

The notion that there were no tackles worth taking past the first round but Polk was apparently a first round talent is total horsesht.

There are new regime apologists who will be telling us for the next five years that we have to wait a little longer to be good.

Five years seems a little long. Zero games seems a little quick. Maybe split the difference with a couple years. 2.5 perhaps.

Who cares if you're a "homer"? Homer is just an insult other sports media people use on other sports media people. If you're a fan of the team, you're expected to be one. In fact, if you aren't, you're not a fan of the team, by definition.

My definition of homer is someone that has unrealistic expectations about the team. They often defend what seem to be poor decisions by the team, and even worse, try to shut down or insult those who disagree. That's fine if you want to be that way, but you don't have license to tell anyone they aren't a fan just because you don't like what they say. I've been a Patriots fan for nearly 50 years. I am wrong about stuff all the time (most recently: I now think Polk will turn out to be a good possession WR, contrary to my assessment after the draft). Just give it a rest: fans can be overly critical, unrealistic, in between -- it's all good. There wouldn't be dynamic, interesting threads without diversity of opinion.

IMO it is clear that they drafted with a multi-year vision for the roster. They wanted to take a guy like Polk high because he has low bust potential and is someone they'll be able to count on as a likely starter for several years with Maye. They knew they'd be unlikely to start Maye this year at all, or at least, not for the first part of the season, so having a more shaky OL was not as big of a deal. They drafted a slightly more developmental tackle (Wallace) later to see if he could grow into a role over the course of the season. If they don't think he's capable of being the starting LT by next offseason, they could throw a high pick or cash at tackle next year. He'd most likely at least be ready to start at RT, which solves one problem.

The Patriots could have taken him in round but took a possession WR in Polk instead. What was Patriots HQ thinking? Didn't they see the need for a LT? I can see where the Patriots might have chosen Polk over Adonai Mitchell, but it seems like a major whiff to pass on Suamataia. Not only did the Chiefs get Suamataia, but they also got the speedster Worthy. The rich get richer and the Patriots make pathetic personnel decisions.

I suspect that the HQ were told that they HAD to take a WR in the second and figured that there would not be a run on OTs until they picked in the third. May not have worked out that way.

Interestingly enough, if they had taken Suamataia in the second, maybe a reach, I strongly suspect that Polk would still around to take in the third!

There is nothing wrong with Polk; he would have been a solid 3'd or 4'th round pick. I suspect that he and Pop will be the designed 3-down receivers. Pop will get doubled leaving Polk man on man to make that crucial 3'd down catch for 8 yards (yes,there will be a lot of third and sevens). However Polk is not someone like Worthy who terrified defenses, but he is a solid player.

Making bad personnel decisions like Lowe/Okorafor is never in vogue, there is never a good time to bring bad players into your program.

There is no reason to sign bad free agents when better options are available at a similar price. There is never an excuse to chase after weapons and ignore the offensive line... if anything the opposite is true. Once you have your QB prospect build your lines, then chase weapons once you have the ability to block for them.

Long term vision... what part of signing sucky players fits into this vision? Just a terrible take... respectfully.

They were locked into a WR in the second round (and a bunch of tackles had gone at the end of the first so maybe they didn’t think the value was there). I also think they thought they had taken care of LT for the short term with Chuks.

There is no reason to sign bad free agents when better options are available at a similar price. This is going to be a very very long season hopefully we can Trade the #1 overall for a haul. What's the record for sacks given up in a Season?? We are going come very close or smash it... I see why they're playing Onwenu at RT we are playing some killer Fronts this year with guys who can run circles around even him. There is no way this Team can survive with Lowe and Okorafor @ Tackle a DE's dream.
