Players overhyped by their own team’s fans

Thomas got ****ed over. He was released in the preseason as teams do with players with the intention of being brought back which he was. What he didn't expect was him getting traded to the Jets after Brown signed. He was the only player brought in that had experience with Josh McDaniels, so it was quite idiotic to trade him. He wasn't going to be the answer, but he would've been a serviceable WR. He caught 433 yards and a TD with the Jets that year.

Pats panicked and released Antonio Brown. He could've played during that season as the NFL couldn't suspend him until the investigation was complete. It dragged out the until the offseason. According to Shannon Sharpe, he was told the Pats released him because they had buyer's remorse on the contract and the off the field incident was an excuse to get rid of him before it became guaranteed. The other theory was that he was released to take the attention away from Bob.

Bingo.

We all know the Sanu trade on the surface was horrible. Very rarely Bill puts players in bad positions. But having him field a punt when he had almost no experience doing when they had next to no WR's was amateur hour. He got hurt and rushed himself back to the field after a few weeks because he felt the pressure of being traded for a 2nd round pick. His injury got worse and the Pats released him in the offseason.

Injury prone Bruce Ellington, mini camp star Maurice Harris and Dontrelle Inman were the other stellar signings.

A final 6 of Edelman, Dorsett, AB, Demaryius Thomas, Deebo/AJBrown, a re-signed Cordarrelle Patterson or Braxton Berrios (for those who preferred him to Gunner, take a bow) would've secured a first round bye, at worst. Meyers could've developed away from the spotlight (& Brady's glare); and anything we would've received from Gordon would've been gravy.

Before he entered free agency in 2019, Evan Lazar pointed out that Flowers had the most unblocked "pressures" in the NFL in 2018, yet could only muster 7.5 sacks. That's actually really bad. He was basically saying Flowers was schemed up by Bill to be put in that position rather than his natural talent being able to "pressure" the QB.

It’s a bad example. Flowers didn’t get paid by the Patriots, and fans didn’t blow a gasket when he left. A much better example is Malcom Butler, who was an OK cornerback who became vastly overrated because of his Lombardi clinching play. Many here lost their **** when Belichick paid Gilmore instead of Butler, and spent years trying to claim that the Patriots would have beaten the Eagles in the SB if only Belichick had played Butler, when in truth Butler sucked against big receivers, and the Eagles were loaded with big receivers.

Lots of if's towards the end of Brady there:

Antonio Brown
Josh Gordon
How that led to Sanu, which costed us a 2nd
D. Thomas not working out

I can't recall all those free agents we picked up, but so many of them flopped one way or another.

Jonnu and Sanu were the worst investments. **** signing anyone with a last name ending in "U."

Josh Gordon is a great pick.

There was never a Braxton Berrios versus Gunner debate, it was Berrios versus Riley McCarron in 2018… Gunner wasn’t in the league yet and Berrios lost the job by sucking and dropping passes. He wasn’t good.

Also AB would have been suspended by the NFL if the Pats didn’t cut him, so this notion they should have held onto him was nonsense. The proof is in the fact none of the 30 other teams signed him when he became available… the league clearly warned teams to stay away.

The bigger issue with your and Rainmaker's “BB messed up 2019” winge fest is Sanu and AB wouldn't have been sought after targets at all… if Tom wasn’t pushing for them.

Also suppose your dream “weapons” scenario above happens, how are you keeping the injured offensive line healthy and preventing Tom from getting hurt… the biggest problem on offense after midseason?

All things end… this error filled revisionist history stroll down memory lane amounts to mental masturbation.
