After watching the Philly game, I think they are some things they do that we can implement. We don't have McCoy, but their offense is similar to ours. They lack a physical wideout and are predicated on speed. Chip uses a ton of motion especially with D-Jax in the backfield to confuse defenses. We don't have McCoy, but ourrun game is solid and Edelman/Amendola are speed guys. Perhaps utilizing an Amendola like they use D-Jax could be interesting and could open up a ton of space.

Elderman and Amedola are more about quickness than pure speed. Djax and Amendola are different types, although they could use motion Amendola or Edelman I suppose.

Josh Boyce has 4.3 speed, he could be used in the Jackson role easily enough.

I think BB visited awhile back to learn some stuff from him. Here's a BB quote

“I was interested to hear how he did it,” Belichick explained of Kelly's no huddle knowledge. “I would say he expanded it to a different level and it was very interesting to understand what he was doing. Certainly I’ve learned a lot from talking to Chip about his experiences with it and how he does it and his procedure and all that.”

As I recall the visit made news because some people said Chip's offense wouldn't work in the NFL. BB is always learning, if Chip has something that works BB will use it, but then so will half the other teams in the league.

What is interesting is that they are calling in signs with one picture. That is it. Just a single picture -sometimes a word - put on a big over head card a coach holds up.

What makes their offense work is McCoy. He is flat out ridiculous. They have a nice passing game and have a lot of moving pieces before the snap but they actually run the ball a lot.

Even though we have guys that are good in space, we can't really run that offense because we have shown over the years that we are not dedicated to pounding the rock the way they do. Hell, Vereen is awesome and he barely gets any carries. Coming out of Cal, I was high on Vereen for his running ability and thought his receiving skills were an added bonus. So far, he is basically a really good wr on our team.

we don't have a mccoy...he really is a fantastic RB

yeah...we ain't got anybody...everybody else has everything you want

Pats also employ a similar system without the cards which they picked up from oregon. A number system when doing the fast break offense. Bedard wrote extensively about this last yr.

Next year's offense is going to be a lot more productive in my opinion. This 2013 season has been about constant adjustments and trying to spin gold from straw due to the learning curve of the rookies, and also the obvious injury situations.

Once we have another year under the belts of guys like Dobson, Boyce, Thompkins, plus our additional draft picks/free agents, we will go back to being the league's number 1 offense--just as we saw when Gronk was healthy. "How" they go about doing that is besides the point, and none of us could really care less.

As far as using Boyce in a DJax type role out of the backfield etc, keep in mind that sounds good in theory and could possible come next season, but for this season he is still learning and terribly raw. It's certainly possible that they'll implement some type of trick plays on a limited basis for the playoffs.

And of course we certainly utilize the one word system with the best of them.

There are approximately 5-6 one word systems in place for each game, and that single word gives assignments for everything you can imagine, including all blocking assignments for the offensive line and skill players, wide receiver routes and shifts, all running back nuances, and options/audibles included.

Chip's offense wouldn't work as well here also because Foles presents at least a modicum
of a threat to run from the option-action that precedes many of their pass plays.

Fair point to consider, for sure.

I'm not a great talent evaluator, but I pegged the decision to choose Nick Foles over Vick a long time ago as a better choice for both a scrambling/passing threat for PHI's new Chip Kelly offense. I just never fell for the idea that Vick would be the permanent starter, and was rather surprised when he was named the week 1 starter.

Of course that doesn't mean that other teams won't be jumping on the idea to use Michael Vick as their new QB1 option come the offseason, as I imagine at least one/two teams to try to make that move.

Vick has the potential to be so much more but he is flat out dumb. He throws unnecessary picks and takes ridiculous hits. I've come to realize that the number one thing a franchise qb should do is actually be available to play and injuries is something Vick has always struggled with. I also hate how he complains about late hits. With his speed, he should have no trouble throwing the ball away, sliding, or getting out of bounds. Don't blame the defense when he gets smacked for always throwing the ball late and tip toeing the sidelines for extra yards.

I like Foles's live for another down approach. Its Brady-esque how willing he is to throw it away if he doesn't like what he sees.

Yeah, smarts obviously go a long, long way at the position of QB for sure.

I still think that Vick's reputation and available talent left will certainly gain attention from some teams (one or two) around the league as a starter still, but I couldn't agree more about Nick Foles. He was high on my radar in this past offseason and I just had a strong feeling that he was a good candidate to run Chip Kelly's offense there.

Again, I'm a pretty mediocre at best talent evaluator, but I also have a feeling that Kirk Cousins could end up being the kind of "riser" that Foles was this year under the right circumstances. If you remember, we've seen good and bad from both Foles and Cousins in their 1st/2nd years, but I just think that Cousins may end up being a viable starter somewhere eventually.

I thought N.Y. wouldn't be dumb enough to trade for Tebow, but they were. How great would it be if they chase Vick as their big name qb four next year?

It also wouldn't surprise me too much if Vick, without any viable offers from any decent
teams, decides to re-sign with Philly as Folk's backup.

Yup, the pats use a single word. Chip modified it this year to include simple images that can be altered with various things. You know the old saying, a picture is worth 1000 words!
