In the Starting Line-Up
Good morning Cousins.
Might as well start the "season" right by implementing an idea that will ruffle feathers.
Started off my morning with a little OJ and a hot cup of coffee with a mocha chocolate sweetener. Then I was treated to a large coffer cake muffin heated just right so as not to dry out.
This is a bad year for college WR talent. To make that double bad is the Patriots do not Draft WR talent well at all. I think there is little doubt we lose Meyers. He will get next to $18mm-$20mm. Good for him . Bad for us. I might have an alternative. It's a bad year for FA WR talent too.
Secondly. The Pats are looking for a third down back at the bowl games......hmmm...More on that later.
We have a respectable amount of CAP space this year. Also perhaps 9 or 10 Draft picks.
The Saints are in CAP hell by negative $60mm or last in the League. The need a rebuild. We need an OT and a WR.
Imagine if the Saints would Trade Ryan Ramczyk (29 years old with 3 more contract years) who gave up only 3 sacks last year and 4 panalties, for a pick to reduce his Saints $9.6 CAP number and he immediately fills a whole at RT unless you want to throw a rookie (see Strange) in there. Now Conor McDermott should be resigned and has starts at LT in case Trent Brown does not have a better year. McDermott might not be the answer but he played respectfully this year. In just a few games he might have been our best OT?
Now back to the WR spot. We all know what Deebo can do. 27 year old Alvin Kamara is one of the best receivers in the NFL....receivers. He can also run a bit. He is a threat anytime the ball is in his hands.
Imagine if we sign Kamara into the role of slot receiver ala Deebo Samuel or McCaffery. Bill had the idea with Ty Montgomery. He was ok until hurt but he's not Kamara. This lowers the Saints $11mm in savings on Kamara. Mickey Loomis will have to figure the rest out.
It has been said their is no one on the Pats "O" you have to game plan for . Could Kamara be that guy? Can he line up in the slot and take a few carries from Stevenson now that Harris is gone? Montgomery has one more year left. There is your back up.
So the Saints cut 1/3rd off their CAP issues and get picks. We get a solid OT with years left on his contract and an electric player. We preserve his career by putting him in the slot mostly. Maybe a 3rd and a 4th pick for the pair. How about a 1st for the pair? ....Wouldja?
What to do about a #1 WR? Hopkins would be stellar. But at near $20mm it is a problem, The Cards are not in bad CAP shape but a Hopkins trade would help. I propose a lower pick and Jonnu Smith, who needs a change of scenery with his $10mm salary that can offset Hopkins some. The Cards can use TE/SLOT help.
My Goal here is to save us some high picks to use on other needs like CB and FS and surgically apply our available CAP space.
Thoughts or threats? This is for fun not to offend.
Hope you have all been well.
