Make me GM for a day, we will have. Franchise LT 4 good WRs and a crying Kraft, I’ll spend the cap, trade future resources, move players a year too early as opposed to a year too late.

I wouldn’t leave Patriots place.
It would be exciting times, and at times maddening, when I wake up like you know we don’t really need a third in 2027 but we could use a really good third tight end.

Let's play the 'what if' game... Let's say they move Onwenu back to the left side so they can sign a RG.

Now lets assume they sign Brandon Scherff (the best OG left on the marker) at 5-6M/year
Let's also assume they sign OT Tyron Smith at 7.5M/year

Keep in mind these are likely the 2 best and most expensive players at their position left on the market. Let's say it cost them 14M to sign both. (it won't for year 1... but let's say it does).. they still have about 26M to play with before they need to worry about eating into the emergency fund or draft pick money...

What else do they plan to spend it on if they sign Locket for his estimated 8m this year? That would leave them 18M more to spend... on what exactly? What is left to spend on? What spot is more important... They could always use more help on the DL of course... but who specifically would cost that much that would be better than bringing Cooper or Diggs here? I don't see it.
The counter argument would be to spread it around on depth. But you could still do that with the draft and cheaper deals.
I think G isn’t a need any more because Strange is now the LG and he is better than anyone available (but drafting IOL on day 3 is important)
I like an insurance policy for the LT we will draft in round 1.

You’re an idiot.

Washington, Seattle and Pittsburgh all found their guy
They found A guy, sure.....theres warm bodies, and there's pieces of the puzzle......and there’s always a cost/benefit analysis.....all that can be said right now is they got A guy, nothing more

Lockett is another WR3 at his current age 32. But when your WR corps sucks I guess adding another decent body never hurts. He will at least add a veteran presence to our locker room. If this was the Lockett of 3 years ago I would have been thrilled. At least the money should not be expensive for him. Last season he only put up 600 yards. Hopefully he has something left in the tank.

The value in signing a vet for a year or two is not so much what they can offer in terms of results for that year or two, but what can they offer a young QB in terms of development....and what can they offer the WR room in terms of growth and in being a professional WR

this team is not winning a lombardi in 25-26......so getting a kupp or a lockett to win an extra 1.5 games in 2026 is NOT the desired outcome; getting a guy that can one way or another help down the road is (even if that guy is gone)

They were also 10 win teams last year. That makes them more attractive destinations for free agents.

I'm not excusing Kraft's lack of non-spending. I think we still should have offered premium money to get playmakers in New England, but one can see why the sales pitch for those 3 teams is better than ours because of winning potential.

Also it feels frustrating, as far as I can tell that we're not IN for any starting caliber left tackles in free agency.

Looks like we are banking on the draft to fill WR/LT. And we haven't been successful in those areas for what a decade now?

Somebody take a quick trip in the Delorean, then bring back a magazine listing all the pro-bowlers and all-pros from this year's draft and sneak it into the Patriots war room. They might need a lot of extra help this year!

Hard pass on Lockett. I wanted him 5 years ago but he is cooked now.

No thank you.

They got a guy who is a lot better than anyone we have at the position

I have obtained exclusive video of the patriots front office picking up Lockett at the airport.

Hey everyone, it’s the Jets GM.

If this is instead of pursuing a trade for Aiyuk or getting Diggs when healthy, I don't like it. If this is in addition to those, ok, sign me up.
This is probably as an on field Coach to mentor the young guys and draftees this year.
