I agree with this.It is quite clear that Jones is broken. He isn't the same player he came into the league as.
It is on him for not having the mental toughness to overcome it, but it is on Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff to do everything in their powers to break him. It was "How to ruin a young QB 101" the last year and a half. But a QB with the proper mental toughness shouldn't completely fall apart like Jones has.
He does remind me of Tony Eason. In Eason's rookie year, he looked to be one of the better picks of the 1983 QB class. Definitely not Marino, but better than a lot of the others. But he got hit a lot behind a bad o-line and just started to see ghosts. He would dive to the ground the second a defender was within two or three yards of him.
Jones may be able to get his head back on straight and become the player he was. But I personally wouldn't trust him after this. I think the best thing for him is to go somewhere else and be in a place where they will put him in a position to succeed. Once a QB is broken though, the success rate of them getting their head back on straight and play well again ain't great.
I agree with this.
It’s on Mac to be mentally tougher but man, last year’s Fat Matt fiasco really screwed him up.
i think the issue isn't so much a lack of toughness......but the kid cares, he wants to do the right thing for the right thing's sake, for the teams sake......there maybe some naïveté and lack of maturity in his approach, in that he plays like he's still in college......it's like he expects everyone to have the same rah rah team mentality he has, and at this level you need more of a cold hearted, business approach (while still putting team first), if that makes sense
there's no brand, there's no me, there's nothing negative in the kid.....he cares, he wants to make plays, he wants to lead......and he's been put in position to fail, and he's trying TOO hard to overcome that......he's gripping because that's the position he's been put into
it's why when you talk to the real leaders of the team, guys like david andrews, they like the kid and want him to do well, why they still stand behind him......he does everything right
i think that's his hamartia - he cares too much - in an era highlighted by me first athletes, he's a team first guy, and it's killing him
i'm not a huge mac jones as a QB guy........but i like what i see of mac jones the person, and understand how those around him have failed, and continue to fail (like when guys take plays off, aren't mentally committed) - i think mac does everything in his power to do things right, i just think at this point he's pushing too hard
The thing is … the one read was wide openMac has Raegor open for 6 or 7 yards at the bottom of the screen and I don’t think he even looked his way. He legitimately looks like made one read and took off from a clean pocket.
Lance lost his job to Purdy. If he was anything special right now that wouldn't have happened. He hasn't been good at all when he has stepped on the field.Lance has untapped ceiling that could be sky high.
With Mac you are gambling on a basement floor and hope his Brain gets fixed.
That is the play Breer is referencing that people watched the film on. Gesicki broke wide-ass open for a surefire touchdown, Mac saw it as his primary read (he literally checked into the play himself because he identified the weakness in the coverage), he had a perfect pocket, it was all perfect - but then he said "nah" and ran away instead.Looked like he might’ve had the seam deep, can’t be sure whats out of frame though.
I had a thought on this recently. On the first play of his first game in his rookie year there was a jail break by the miami defense. He turned away and tossed the ball underhanded behind him like that would stop the pass rushers. He completely panicked. Than after the game he sat and sulked on the bench to the extent that a miami player went over to console him. Now that i think back on it these two things showed that he was mentally weak.I agree with this.

Has to be that. QB's don't regress like that on their own. He's showing all the signs of a young QB whose development was botched big time.I agree with this.

he is pretty much the same guy to me since the 2nd half of his rookie year when the teams figured him out.Has to be that. QB's don't regress like that on their own. He's showing all the signs of a young QB whose development was botched big time.
Other defenses don't make a young QB's footwork and fundamental mechanics of the position break down.he is pretty much the same guy to me since the 2nd half of his rookie year when the teams figured him out.
I think that’s not a coincidence that it’s usually not the good QBs that get broken
After last week I'd take Howell over MacNot drafting Levis infuriated me.
There were many posters here who said Mac was better than Levis.
This kid is legit. Early Brady-like in how he spreads the ball around. After last week I'd take Howell over Mac
Mac has struggled with awareness and finding the open man since his rookie year. We saw plays where he didn't see wide open players as early as the Jest game in Week 2 that year. We won handily anyway and just chalked it up to a rook not knowing how to see the field yet. Unfortunately, he has not been able to increase that awareness. If anything, it might be worse now.
Without question; After last week I'd take Howell over Mac
Probably a former ‘Bama teammate. And probably he wasn’t sulking, he was probably trying to come to grips with his realization that he crapped his pants with fear on his first play in the NFL. And has been broken ever since, just sometimes more successful at hiding it than other times.I had a thought on this recently. Not just last year. Second half of his rookie season he was falling back to earth.I agree with this.

I know everyone hates Breer and I am sure we will get a picture of his mugshot for some reason but he singles out a specific play the coaches got pissed about. Seems to me the spin control PR machine is being fired up in the coaching offices.
