PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

On the radio I heard this morning that the pick is a conditional 2nd or 3rd. Probably a 3rd if they don't sign him longterm or franchise him. A 2nd if they sign him.

Getting the 33rd pick in the draft changes everything in terms of a valuation of this trade.
That would be nice. Unfortunately there's too much out there suggesting that the #3 comp pick is the best we're getting.

I have a feeling we'll fall short this year and it will be on the defense..... this trade doesn't help that.

So what if Cleveland doesn't get a conditional 3rd what then??? I would have kept and let him walk in the Off season.

The more I think about it, I'm at the conclusion that this is mostly about Belichick sending a message to his defense.

Lombardi is right in that the defense has mostly been playing mediocre this season. I thought it was evident to many people, except those so eager to defend it with the PPG stat. Their inability to get average/below average offenses off the field on third down might kill us down the road when we play better teams.

That is not to say Jaime Collins is the problem and to blame for our woes on that side of the football. But for one of the best players on our team he was underperforming. He wasn't coming back anyhow.

Bill wanted to issue a wake up call for his defense to play better. The fact that he booted the most talented player on defense out of the door to the worst team in football is sure to put them on alert that no one is safe if they aren't playing up to snuff.

It is a ballsy move and a huge risk to take, all to send a message. But Bill is usually right about these things. I'm doubtful of the move but very interested to see how this plays out and if the defense gets its act together.

We should of have kept Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins for the last year this season, they need to leave the defense alone and stop plucking our guys over little draft picks like wow, we lost 2 super bowls because of defense lets not make it 3 over getting some extra draft picks next season. Even Brady said it himself that the offense is gonna have to step it up a bit more now that Collins is gone.

He doesn't sound happy.
I don't think there was anyone happy about Milloy leaving either. From what I recall there were a number of unhappy campers with that move, but they did not "hate their coach".

I imagine it is a similar feeling in that locker room right now. We've just gotta see if they respond the right way, as they did in 2003. I'm not too panicky about the locker room. Bill isnt ignorant of the fact that this move wouldn't be popular among other players and some coaches.

More concerned about losing what we know he can give us at times.

I listened to that call and I thought he said there was no 11 mil offer that he knew of. He went on to say something like ask the Patriots if you really want to know.

Rodney was a big part of the team getting their heads back. He has said many times during interviews that after the first game in buffalo, he told brady and co, that this is the NFL, he just got cut from the chargers, people have to move on . etc etc.
Lets hope this team has enough leadership to handle it.

The best offense of all-time putting up 14 may have had something to do with losing Super Bowl XLII. As does the 32 PPG offense putting up 17 (plus handing the Giants a safety) in Super Bowl XLVI.
While what you post is factually correct it leaves out the point that a defense given the lead to protect at the end of the game should hopefully get the job done. To give the defense credit, it did prevent Seattle from scoring after almost blowing that game also.
It takes a team effort to win a super bowl and in both Giants wins over the Pats the offense and defense share blame.

what if bill made this trade in the hopes that With Jamie on the browns, he'll take the 4 games hes got left against AFC north opponents and really lay into their skill position players.

What if bellichick just sacraficed his queen in order to see the opponents board get completely wiped.

/tinfoil hat

think about it.

Who scares you come playoff time? The broncos, the ravens/steelers.

The browns still play the steelers twice, and the ravens once. the afc south isn't making it out of the wild card round.

I wish a reporter had the balls to say after BB's response to "why did you trade Collins ?", his answer of course will be "we always try to do what we feel is the best for the team". My response to that would be "How is trading your BEST defender the best move for the team ?" And of course he will just respond "we always try to do what we feel is best for the team." But at least have to balls to ask the question. You may not get the answer you want, but at least the question gets asked.

While I was waiting to pick the kids up at school yesterday I tuned in toDale & Holley and they said exactly that. They knew he would stonewall them and they obviously took the path of least resistance during the segment with Bill.

BB has conditioned the media in this town quite well. They are beaten down souls and waterboarding won't even work.

Then you piss him off and he cuts the session short or he never calls on you to ask a question again. Good job. Just like the guy who kept asking him about "reevaluating the QB position" after the KC loss a couple of years ago. Guy never gets called on to ask a question anymore yet he wears it like a badge of honor because he's a moron.

Also, this year, Collins is not the best guy on defense.
