Pats still interested in Sherman

He'd look good in a pats jersey. Wishful thinking though.

I love Butler - his attitude, his short memory, his toughness on the field.

But no, I can't agree with this. Sherman is still elite - Talib, Norman elite.
Sherman, Peterson, Talib, Norman, Harris, Trufant, Peters, Jenkins, DRC....the list goes on, and when you factor in guys like Bouye (no TDs, 181 yds allowed), Hayward (5 INTs, only 1 TD allowed, 55.5 QBR against), etc, it's quite possible that Malcolm Butler is looking outside of the top 10-12.

He's an undersized player who has earned the right to be included in the top 10-12 conversation with his scrappy play, but Belichick has schemed well to mask his weaknesses, and he's received plenty of help over the top. I agree with you that Butler has proven that he belongs, but anyone thinking that he's better than the players you've mentioned probably needs to take of his homer glasses.

Cough, cough--@jimnance

Thank you!

I'd rather have Malcolm for sentimental reasons, but Sherman is my favorite current non-Pats player so inform Belichick of my approval.

I'd like to see Butler locked up long term too, but apparently, Belichick sees something that prevents him from throwing out a decent offer. The situation becomes even stranger if you believe Butler's agent, who has stated that they're looking for something in the 10m dollar a year range.

His ways are not our ways.

Richard sherman is 29 and he wasnt elite last year. I know he was injured but seattle is probably willing to move on for a reason. He would be great to have but he isnt worth much trade wise at his salary. Sherman is the type of player that pats trade away to some chump team.. not the other way around.

Doubt this happens unless Seattle is willing to accept draft picks in 2018, and that's if BB is willing to give what they're asking for. Also don't see Seattle going for Butler straight up, yes he is an excellent corner but Seattle likes them big lanky physical corners.

Sherman was pretty ropey at times last year. Certainly wasn't the Sherman of old. Proceed with caution...

I'm wondering if Seattle isn't trying to change the culture there. Supposedly he and Baldwin are the "alpha dogs"who run the locker room as they allegedly did at Stanford.( based on rumors and third hand) Would that fly in New England or could he buy into " Patriot way"? We have seen plenty of other players do it and behave while they were here.... If so and if the price in picks isn't too steep, go for it......

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, WR Doug Baldwin say they aren’t worried about offense-defense divide

I would guess we would get 2 GREAT years out of Sherman. His first year would be a prove people wrong and prove Belichick right type of year. He would be highly motivated to prove last year wasn't the typical Sherman type of year. Then his 2nd year would be a contract year, so he would be highly motivated.

In reality, I think we'd get 2 years similar to the 1 year we got from Revis. Very good play but with a hint of decline. We saw that with Revis, and at 29, I think it would be similar with Sherman.

He was looking for $10m after only one season of starting. Now he is looking for more than Gilmore

He questioned the coaching staff last year. Specifically, he questioned the offensive play calling. That's why they want to get rid of him. I can't see sherman doing that to a 5X super bowl HC.

I love Butler, but he simply can't do that. Physics doesn't let you at a shade under 5'10".

Good post ...
some fans evaluate with some levels of emotion - Belichick has to look at where the game is and where it is going in the next few years.

Shermans #'s woud be more more relevant if you were just showing last 2 seasons-that goes bak to 2011. Nobody in the nfl cares what you did 4,5 or 6 years ago. You get paid based on what they THINK youre goingto do this year an the next couple.(based on length of contract). I would have much rather kept talib over revis but revis contract was good value because it was only one year.

20 Int's first 3 years. 10 the last 3 years.

BB finally wants tall corners I liked Ellis Hobbs how fiesty he was and tough.
However the moment he got put on Plaxico Burress in the superbowl I screamed at the TV.
If we have Gilmore Sherman and Rowe as our top corners im no longer terrified of 50 50 balls.
Add Revis and that secondary is other wordly.
The 510 Coleman and 5 ft 9 Jones brothers shouldnt get comfy in New England.
Matter of fact Cyrus Jones could become part of a Sherman trade.
Then trade Butler to NO to recoup draft picks.
