I think it’s pretty clear that Jon is better than Wade.
True enough - I was talking about injuries.
Gonzo, Jones, Jones, and Jones are the top 4 here, but I'd like ONE MORE true outside guy as the number 3 out there for the 5th CB. Wade or Boldin seem the most likely to fit that bill, although Wade has never shown he can play out there...

The pats may have a top 5 CB trio with Jack Jones suspended in Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones & Marcus Jones. Their group with Jack Jones will contend with the jets for the best in the NFL.
Never thought there'd come the day I'd read such a hineous statement on this board.

A couple of general comments after reading the thread and some of the comments.

1. Sometimes (especially in the early days of camp), when planning your practice you might decide that you want to see what the TE's look like and tell the QB that you want him to focus on that as his first look. The next day it might be the wide outs, the next, the RB's. So at THIS point of camp I wouldn't worry about who is being targeted or not.

2. Nothing really matters until the pads go on. And even then almost all the hitting that does occur is "controlled" where you aren't allowed to leave your feet, etc.

3. I remember during 2 a days, when you FIRST started hitting, you were SOOOOO sore that you wondered if you were going to be able to get out of you room to get to the afternoon practice.. It took 2-3 days before that went away.

4. Talk about the sissification of the NFL, when I coached in our one week TC, I had 3 practices a day. A 45 minute no pad practice BEFORE Breakfast for the ST's before the usual offense in the morning and defense in the PM practices. Remember in MA HS's you only had 3 weeks to work with between you first practice and you first game. Not a lot of time to get ready to deal with 60-70 kids and coaches, siome of them who have never played football or had only a year or two in the game.. So getting that extra short practice in was important.

5. I'd rather be seeing Giseki's name among thumbs up category, but too early to be concerned. As for Thornton, I AM worried. The only words I want to hear when reporters talk about him are "explosive" and "dynamic". THAT is why he and his 4.2 speed was chosen. THAT is what he needs to show us if he is to be effective. I noticed NONE of these qualities last year except for ONE play and THAT was was a running play. Supposedly he added about 5 more pounds of muscle and that will translate into more explosive and dynamic play.

6.I like our defense.....a LOT, but I wouldn't get too carried away by their dominance at these early practices. The defense is SUPPOSED to be way ahead of the offense at this point. I WOULDN'T be happy to hear the offense was dominant in any one of these practices. It would make me worry about the defense.

7. The best thing I have "heard" so far in these 3 TC threads was the LACK of any comments about a plethora of mental errors and penalties. I'm sure there ARE some, but at this point not enough of them to get reported. That would at least INDICATE that the team came in focused and alert.
Question, are you physically there during training camp this season?

Maybe Mills, if they feel confident with the rest of their safeties?

Except that he wasn't really that good on the outside last year.
Assuming Jack Jones is out, If Gonzo is a true #1 outside CB as advertised, when he's ready they'll likely have him lockdown the #2 WR 1:1 while Jon Jones gets safety help 2:1 on the #1 WR. That's what they did with Gilmore, Revis, and Talib.

Questions as of today:
1st team O-line players
2nd team O-line players (who's backing up trent)
Fullback? Eye formation or split backs on running plays?
3 te sets in red zone?
Who's in the slot?
4-3, first team d line players
2nd team d-line players

I won't go until the pads go on. I don't see the point.

I hope to go Monday because on Tuesday I'm leaving for Manhatten Beach for a week.
Cool. Should be fun. Linebackers vs Rb's and Te's hit drills. Love to hear some insight on the o-line groupings. How does Klemm teach, Dantes inferno pt. 2.

I know it's a sucker's bet, but I'm still hoping that Shawn Wade figures it out. World of talent, size and speed. He'd be a nice piece to make sure Jon and Marcus can stay more inside.

Wade is the DB who most closely resembles Devin McCourty physically; it seems logical to me to want to see if he can make the transition from Outside/LOS CB to Free/Deep Safety, as a backup/understudy to either Jon Jones or Jalen Mills, whoever of those two wind up there... Same career trajectory as McCourty himself, btw... Also same as DMac, Wade was considered one of the better-tackling DBs in the entire draft; I'm kinda surprised therefore that he hasn't seen more action on STs...

I keep on hearing when Mac throws a pick he goes by himself and takes mental reps. I think that they should pay for a qb coach for him. Just my opinion. Obrien has enough on his plate.

Jones and a Safety can't handle Diggs. We saw that Last year. We need Gonzo on him and either Jon or Jack on the #2.

I'm going to back off of my proclamation from yesterday that he is a BUST...for now. If he keeps this up I may have to start the CG is 1st ballot HOFer buzz.

Patricia's buddy from Detroit Evan Rothstein is listed as the ass-istant QBC... Let's hope that whenever he speaks with Mac that it's the 100% opposite of whatever Judge Joey was telling him...

Great to read that JuJu had 2 catches out of 5 throws with a TD and spoke well of Mac Jones work ethic and communication with the receivers. 2 out of 5 won't cut it game time but it is a start. IMO it is about what can you do on the field in game time that will determine Mac Jones' future as a starter QB this season...continuation or done. Work ethic is fine but over, it is production time for him.

Douglas continues to get plenty of work with frontline players and Mac Jones, and his quickness has been noticeable. He grabbed a shallow cross from Zappe as Bryant chased from behind in 11-on-11s, offering a glimpse of his explosiveness.

Great to see that Douglas is explosive, but almost all receivers look explosive compared to Bryant.
