Very quiet camp for Mike Gesicki?? Am I missing something thought Mac was throwing exclusively to the TE's.

They're likely looking for that TE3 - giving Sokol, who's a much better in-line blocker than Gisecki, a long look, probably Firkser, too.

Keep in mind that they didn't pay Gisecki a lot of money. We all have high hopes for him, but he is what he is. Most of his money is guaranteed - he'll be on the team (and I think he'll be one of those sneaky contributors that makes some important plays).

I'll be honest, I don't like the sound of that either. Thornton I can kinda justify considering what they've actually been running. Gisecki is like 8 feet tall.

I mean, not creating separation is also an indictment on the offense. It's obviously too early to be concerned, but they don't really have any guys on the roster aside from Douglas who excel in short area quickness and creating separation at the top of the route so the fact that this has been an issue early on is something to keep an eye on.

And the defense knows the plays.

The only JJ I want playing on the outside is Jack Jones not Jonathan Jones.

I'm okay with Jonathan Jones being good on the outside or in the slot.

I would hope so now that we have an NFL level coaching staff on offense.

I think a large part of the offseason is strength and conditioning. The Pats have the same staff running the strength and conditioning program. A 2nd year jump is common independent of coaching.

Hopefully the Patriots Medical staff are keeping an eye on the players. I think it's insane that Marcus Jones is out there in a Hooded sweatshirt.

A hooded sweatshirt is HOTTER, but it also serves as a sun blocker and soaks up sweat. So, if he's plenty hydrated..it should be OK.

If they're working exclusively red zone, it's not inconceivable he wouldn't be a huge part of it. Giseki is more concerning to me, considering it seems like they're just working on frickin jump ball fade routes most of the time.

I see Geisicki more of a up-the-seam guy than a jump ball guy.

The Patriots hadn’t done a ton of special teams work through the first two days of training camp, but spent a good amount of time working on kickoffs on Friday. Through both periods of kickoff work, punter Corliss Waitman handled most of the kickoff duties with Nick Folk rotating in as well. Neither rookie kicker Chad Ryland nor rookie punter Bryce Baringer saw reps during that period.

Later on, the Patriots ran a team field goal drill. The presumed starters were lined up at about the 25 yard line and had live reps, with Folk kicking the ball from the hold. The second group with Ryland only using it as a mental rep and not making contact with the ball.

That feels like a sign that the two veterans are in the lead in their respective position battles. This Friday’s in-stadium practice, which usually features a focus on special teams, should give us a real strong indication of where things stand at both spots.

A couple of general comments after reading the thread and some of the comments.

1. Sometimes (especially in the early days of camp), when planning your practice you might decide that you want to see what the TE's look like and tell the QB that you want him to focus on that as his first look. The next day it might be the wide outs, the next, the RB's. So at THIS point of camp I wouldn't worry about who is being targeted or not.

2. Nothing really matters until the pads go on. And even then almost all the hitting that does occur is "controlled" where you aren't allowed to leave your feet, etc.

3. I remember during 2 a days, when you FIRST started hitting, you were SOOOOO sore that you wondered if you were going to be able to get out of you room to get to the afternoon practice.. It took 2-3 days before that went away.

4. Talk about the sissification of the NFL, when I coached in our one week TC, I had 3 practices a day. A 45 minute no pad practice BEFORE Breakfast for the ST's before the usual offense in the morning and defense in the PM practices. Remember in MA HS's you only had 3 weeks to work with between you first practice and you first game. Not a lot of time to get ready to deal with 60-70 kids and coaches, siome of them who have never played football or had only a year or two in the game.. So getting that extra short practice in was important.

5. I'd rather be seeing Giseki's name among thumbs up category, but too early to be concerned. As for Thornton, I AM worried. The only words I want to hear when reporters talk about him are "explosive" and "dynamic". THAT is why he and his 4.2 speed was chosen. THAT is what he needs to show us if he is to be effective. I noticed NONE of these qualities last year except for ONE play and THAT was was a running play. Supposedly he added about 5 more pounds of muscle and that will translate into more explosive and dynamic play.

6.I like our defense.....a LOT, but I wouldn't get too carried away by their dominance at these early practices. The defense is SUPPOSED to be way ahead of the offense at this point. I WOULDN'T be happy to hear the offense was dominant in any one of these practices. It would make me worry about the defense.

7. The best thing I have "heard" so far in these 3 TC threads was the LACK of any comments about a plethora of mental errors and penalties. I'm sure there ARE some, but at this point not enough of them to get reported. That would at least INDICATE that the team came in focused and alert.

If Tyquan is invisible with Pads on: in scrimmages and Pre-Season games then Tyquan we have a problem.

Sad cause he was my number 2 wr I scouted in that draft after JamesonWilliams.
I was convened about Pickens attitude and getting separation against top DBs.
I may be as bad at Bill at evaluating WRs since I loved Thornton and Chad Jackson.
To be fair I would of hit on Stephon Diggs, and Amon Brown,

Please let Thornton developers, if not mystery injury on PUP or IR,
Would love to see Boutte look more than Jefferson than Thompkins.

I wasn't high on Douglas mostly because of his weight and height. Putting on 22 LBs and working with the "starters" has changed my mind so far. Loooong way to go however.

I don't agree with Bill that Double-D's a viable option on the Outside; he's Way too small to be effective in that role. Straight Slot, homies.

Hearing good things about JuJu all around, which is a great relief even more than encouraging.
It seems it might be Douglas v. MonTy not necessarily Douglas v. Boutte. With MonTy already hurt, that gives DD a chance to shine.
As the curse predicted, TT is fading. I'm so sick of keeping my hopes up.
I'm actually excited to hear about Sokol's good play. Because Gesicki isn't an every down type of TE. So to have a solid versatile TE behind Henry would be great.
We won't know much about Rham, Strong, Harris until next week when pads come on. That should help the Offense start to find some rhythm.

I hope Judon is extended here perfect team player.
Only way I would move him would be for a Tee Higgins, Jerry Jeudy kind of talent at WR.
Otherwise use the cap to extend him, Uche and Dugger.
