Patriots trade for TE Martellus Bennett!

Has there ever been a player that sat out their first 2 years and amounted to anything? Inaction is the worst thing that can happen to a football player.

Brandon Tate, Shawn Crable, Armond Armsted...

uh oh

Don't sleep on Tyler Gaffney. We've had him stashed away for a couple years. He isn't a midget at 6'. He comes from Stanford, so he's a smart guy. He runs quite well just watch his highlights on YouTube. He is also the typical Patriot: injury history, out of obscurity with something to prove. I think we already have our RB1

Would be one of the most unlikely starters to emerge in the NFL. I'm down for it.

You can scratch Brandon Tate off that list.

Not only did he play in 2 games his rookie year, he played in all 16 during his second season.

I'll pass on Arian Foster. 2 of the last 3 seasons he's gone down with injury. Durability issues. I'll stick with Lewis, Gaffney, hopefully Blount and a couple draft picks and UDFAs and see what goes BOOM.

Dont be ridiculous, arian foster for the right price would be an enormous upgrade overall these players except lewis. Foster has great hands and would be able to add a passing threat on any down he was in. He would not need to be as durable because he would split time here. If we could get him for a 2-3mil.. The offense would be unstoppable.

Wait. You don't want Foster because he has durability issues but you'll stick with Lewis (who is coming back from injury and has a bit of an injury history) and a guy that hasn't taken one snap in two years because of injury in Gaffney?

No way Gronk holds out get the **** out of here

its parody guys.... parody

Fair and balanced

One thing about him coming to New England is that there will be no question about who's the top dog, be it at TE (Gronk) overall team (Brady) or organization (BB). That should keep Bennett in check for at least a season. If the Patriots were able to trade for his million dollar body while leaving his five cent head in Chicago, this is a superior alternative to the FA tight ends that were on the market, and at very little cost in future capital.

Great points, Deus, but my concern is that we may see some glimpses as to why Bennett hasn't made many friends during his NFL career, and the fact that he'll be called on to block more and is much lower on the totem pole of receiving options may prove to be a bit of a distraction.

Hopefully, it's the exact opposite of what I'm envisioning, because Bennett has obvious RZ and TE2 value. Still excited about the move, no matter what.

I'd love to get some inside scoop on this. Did it come after BB wasn't able to snag a top WR in free agency, or was is something brewing independently because of either a distaste for, or inability to get, the FA TEs on the market?

We'll have to wait for the tell-all presser that's sure to come.

"Pink Stripes," dude. This has been in the making for over 2 years.

C'mon, now.

This team already has a blocking TE. That's Michael Williams. Bennett is here to be the second TE threat. He's here to be what Chandler failed to be.

I didn't mean to suggest that he'd be a blocking TE, just that he may have some additional blocking responsibilities than he's been used to lately. Hard to imagine not seeing more 2 TE sets, but that's just my own personal opinion.

At any rate, you're probably right that Belichick will try and feed him the ball when possible. I'm just voicing some minor concerns that I have.

What makes this a great deal? He had over 900 yards two years ago. He could be on the decline.
