Patriots Player Departure Patriots trade Dugger too lol

Pittsburgh has always had these type of safeties going back more than a decade.

They don't drop 2 safeties back. One is always attacking.

I thought thats what they got peppers for. Unless theyve just given up on him

Anyways now theyre saying that we’re eating some of that 5m so it doesn’t look as bad for them if its just while elliot is out - whos more of a ss himself

If I understand it properly we are eating it this year but freeing cap next year.

Yeah but they could have just released him after the season and saved the same amount. So it probably has more to do with the spot itself and finding a better use for it

@Miguel

any insight into the cap aspect of the Dugger & White Trades?

That should free up about $8M in 2026 cap space.
I'm thinking another trade may be in the works that will eat that up - making this a precursor move to perhaps address a need for the playoff run

They can elevate Richie Grant to 53 man roster.

They also had Lewis Cine in for a tryout.

Not expecting much, but both a better fit for what Vrabel wants than Duggar was.
Lewis cine could be a good reclamation project. 2022 first rounder from the class of cole strange and thornton

The Pat’s don’t utilize a traditional strong safety and free safety anymore… now they have two guys with free safety cover traits, the ability to tackle and they split the field.

This is why they got rid of Peppers, they probably hoped someone would take Dugger off their hands sooner but he had to prove he was healthy if someone was going to eat that contract.

Should get some cap relief from this deal.

Hopefully I’m proven wrong but I don’t like it.

1) The trade deadline is next week. Couldn’t we have used one or both as trade capital to acquire players that could help us now.

2) The NFL season is a war of attrition. These are two former 2nd rounders who we all saw as important pieces. We lost potentially valuable depth and got nothing in return.

3) We netted two 6ths and it cost us two 7ths. Thats a lousy return. The moves reek of desperation. I’m guessing they had become locker room cancers in their reduced roles. I’m wondering if they were involved in whatever got Barmore benched. Coach saw them as bad influences and sent them packing. It sucks that it came to this. Generally teams are better when they stockpile talent, not trade it away for peanuts.
I’m guess we just have to give Vrabes the benefit of the doubt.

I don't understand the whining. Vrabel had no use for White or Dugger, so he got what he could. Since he wanted to move on from both of them, the alternative was to cut them.

That has nothing to do with it.

Duggar was a good player for a bit. He fit BB's mold. He isn't the player he was post injury, and doesn't fit what Vrabel wants.

Vrabel is cleaning house and freeing up cap space. The production of Duggar and White can be replaced by JAGs, and possibly upgraded, if not this year, then next.
Plus Bill wasn’t the one who paid him. Duggar was awesome in his rookie deal.

Maybe Dugger as Depth but White was worse than a Jag off the streets.

Anyone have our updated 2026 draft picks? It’s not much, but having the 6th rounders isn’t half bad.
