Patriots Sign Tim Tebow

well...I guess any question that Tebow might not make the roster is right out in the garbage can now...

maybe Kraft will buy the Comcast Center and rename it "Timmy's Cathedral In The Pines" and hold multi-denominational prayer meetings for players and fans alike before every home game.

Really, with Timmy now officially a Patriot, after a couple of June practices, I say THE SKY'S THE LIMIT!!!

It's not entirely incorrect to say that Belichick, too, failed at his first HC gig, and then had to wander in the desert until he got a second chance.

I think the following response from DKFlutie is appropriate when attempting to compare the 2 situations of BB and JMcD. In my opinion they are very different. For one thing, there seemed to be a power struggle of sorts between coach and other decision makers, not to mention the aspect of Modell up and leaving the city etc. All in all, I think Belichick's first go 'round in CLE showed a scrappy team at times, and I don't view it as being as much of a failure as maybe you might.

One thing can be said for sure--it seems as though Belichick truly learned from his poor situation with CLE, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised to find out that came heavily into play in his decision to leave the Jets after such a brief period in time. Of course we'll probably never know the real truth to what was promised to him etc, so it's all speculative.

Not even close. Belichick won 11 games with a horrible Cleveland team, took them to the playoffs even beating the Pats that season in the playoffs I recall. Then he had one of the worst owner moves ever moving from Cleveland to Baltimore and getting the rug pulled out from him, an impossible coaching situation. Completely revitalized a terrible Jets team on defense. Belichick also won 2 championship rings as a coordinator before this, including stopping the Bills which is a gameplan in the hall of fame.

So, even before New England Belichick put together accomplishments not even close to McDaniels. They are galaxies apart from each other in terms of talent, intelligence, background, and achievements before their 2nd chance.

For what it's worth, I don't feel comfortable in the notion that Josh McDaniels is being groomed to replace Bill Belichick. I'd prefer someone else, preferably from outside of the organization.

I too would want every possible candidate looked at, not only in the pros but also in the college game. I'd feel much more comfortable with someone like Nick Saban for example.

After all, the Krafts are very used to winning in the past 20 yrs, and they'll likely pay handsomely to continue those ways, so I wouldn't rule anyone out when the time finally comes to have that discussion. I certainly by no means would limit myself to Josh McDaniels.

no to Weis

no to Romeo

10,000 no's to Fredo

no to "short man complex" Josh

Saban is too old and too comfortable in Bama

hmm...BB bumped up to VP...what about Urban Meyer?

When the time is right, there may very well be another handful of candidates that we're currently overlooking; possibly even another NFL coach who has won a couple of SB rings by then.

I wouldn't necessarily discount Saban right off the bat...money talks, it's a very high profile job, he'd have full control, and a good communication from his friend himself on certain issues in the beginning.

Urban Meyer is always another common choice. It appears that he's just as settled in as Saban at the moment, but again...money and prestige speak volumes so anything is possible.

I think 2 points ring true at the moment: 1. We don't need to worry about it right now and 2. Any number of candidates may step up and "write" history with their current teams that may make them a good choice when the time is right.

I wouldn't waste a second considering either one of Crennel or Weis. I don't think they'd make too many lists post 2005 to be honest.

We just probably just leave the subject alone, Joker. I don't want the thread derailed by some negative comments regarding Belichick's length of time here, etc. I don't know about you, but it makes me rather uncomfortable. I don't think we need to worry about it for awhile--although that is just my opinion of course.

Let's go back to Tebow talk.... :rocker:

QB3 or world savior? Personal punt protector or are we going exclusively to 2 point conversions?

Look at it this way...

Nothing would be more satisfying than absolutely sticking it to the Jets, right?

Imagine several plays where Tebow catches a pass or takes a handoff and it goes for big gains. Can you imagine the horror of the NY media and fanbase?

I'm all in on the Tebow train now, Supa....I love the Pats to my core...and I hate the Jets almost as much...if the C.O. is going to be a Patriot then I want to see him Woodhead the hell out of that fat blowhard and the Buffumbler...with a biblical vengeance.

Brian Kelly was at practice the other day...

As long as Tebow catching that pass is a better play than any of our other receiving options making that play, or Tebow taking a handoff is a better play than Ridley/Vereen/Bolden/Blount taking that handoff, I'm all for it.

I'm thinking when Brady goes, BB moves upstairs to the Kraft box. I would imagine the team philosophy would continue under an adherent of BB's coaching philosophy.

or...Kraft decides to see the team to Ernie Boch Jr. and we go back to the days of the Ron Meyer's and Jerry Glanvilles....that would probably croak me though....:-(

In general I'm just really distrust-ful of McDaniels' interests right now, and possibly even Belichick's. If they want to just keep Tebow at "QB3 (inactive)" so McDaniels can continue his "unfinished business" and work on Tebow's game, then whatever, it doesn't affect the current state of the Patriots.

I'm just worried that the temptation to get him into a game is going to be too great for McDaniels to overlook. And there's no play involving Tebow that is an optimal choice for this particular offense and its style. None.

PS. Apparently you can't use the word "distrust-ful" because of the word filter, lol.

You're saying you think McDaniel didn't lobby BB to get Tebow here, and that he is, is a just a big coincidence?

I don't see why this need be the case. BB has a great deal of respect for Tebow, likes athletic prospects (best 3-cone on the Pats roster), likes former Florida players, redemption cases and potential positional versatility. There's plenty of reasons why BB would want to sign Tebow from his own perspective totally independent of McDaniels.

Whats that dummy, Belichick, know anyway?

Agreed...it's been the general consensus on this board that McDaniel had a lot to do with other signings from his Denver/St. Louis stints so it's not un reasonable to believe he was also involved in the signing of Sideshow Tim.

You're now equating having your ass on a coach or watching from the stadium seats with being under center as the starting QB and actually playing the games.

Even for you, that's one hell of a weak troll attempt.

Wow, Deus. What's it like not to have any sense of humor or be able to note sarcasm?

I can't imagine how dark it must be in there for you.

If you actually believe I was seriously equating the two, then can I interest you in buying some ocean front Iowa real estate?

(.......cue Deus' clutched fist - indignant response that such real estate would be impossible!!!)

Wow. You need to pay a lot less attention to a 3rd string QB who has about a 1% chance of taking a meaningful snap for this team.

Tom Brady year 2000 says hi!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

That being said, in THIS case, I agree with you.

And now a secondary troll, aimed at a different poster....

Ok, that's a pretty good attempt at a save. I'll give you that.
