Patriots officially sign Jamie Collins

Bentley has been their best LB this year. He has not been their problem. I don’t recall Hightower making a single notable or impactful play this year. He has been invisible. Van Noy obviously missed the Jets game but when he has played has been inconsistent.

Collins disappeared in the second half of the year in 2019 but now that he has been cut and is not going to cost much from a salary standpoint I would be in favor of signing him. I think he still has fans in Belichick and Patricia and remains close with several veteran players, so I would think that the Pats should be the odds on favorite to sign him.

Nope. Bentley has tackle numbers but he keeps missing runners at the point of attack. He's a weak link. Unless you think other past players with tackle numbers, like Monty Beisel or Gary Guyton, were good linebackers.

.

Collins was such a stud in his first few years, absolutely loved watching him. Then just seemed to lose his edge. Haven't watched him as of late, but if he's physically/mentally right, I would bet he still has some good football left in him.

I’m expecting a rock bottom type of contract.

  • FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots and free-agent linebacker Jamie Collins are working toward a deal that will bring back Collins for a third stint with the team, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.
Collins was released by the Detroit Lions on Sept. 28 after the team couldn't find a trade partner for him.
He entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2013, was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2016, and then returned to play for the club in 2019. Collins had signed a three-year deal with the Lions as a free agent in 2020.

  • The Patriots are expected to place reserve defensive lineman Henry Anderson on injured reserve to make space on the roster for Collins. Anderson suffered a chest injury in Sunday night's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the team.
Collins joins a linebacker corps that includes veterans Dont'a Hightowerand Kyle Van Noy. In 2019, when they played together in New England, Collins gave them the nickname "The Boogeymen."
Collins, 31, should be able to contribute quickly given his familiarity with the team's system.
The Patriots have been managing injuries at linebacker, having lost Raekwon McMillan to a torn ACL in the preseason, and with starting inside linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley missing Sunday's game with a shoulder ailment. They've called up linebacker Jahlani Tavai from the practice squad each of the past two weeks, and now Collins can help fill that void.

They need CB help far more. They may not have the space for him since the front seven of their defense is mostly stacked especially at LB.
With Bentley out for who knows how long it's worth the shot

Collins was great with us before but is he the same player?

He will play well for the rest of the year because he wants another big contract. Then some team will over pay him, he will start being lazy again. Get cut and return to the Patriots.

And the cycle continues
