Yes, Maye had 3 turnovers. That’s obvious. Nobody is overlooking that, but it was the kid’s first career start, against a top team/defense, worst OL in NFL history, sacked 4 times, countless pressures, w/o his starting RB, a bottom 5 WR corps & a mostly incapable coaching staff. Are you expecting perfection on every snap??.. Relax…Given his performance, I’d say the kid is resilient. He played very well. Give him time…he’s gonna be a star soon.

THE BALLS HE DROPPED.

And the one where he cut short and Maye threw long - looked like Polk's mistake, but again, OPEN.
He got 4 targets. Thats not open A LOT. And if he ran the wrong route he isn’t open

13 yards a game. Can you find a starting WR who produced less EVER?

I would love nothing more than to be wrong about not starting Maye this year but if you think 1 game answers that question then you are delusional.

Also, even if I am wrong about that does not mean I am automatically wrong about everything else. Finally, I would love to hear why I am wrong in thinking the Texans D look their foot off the gas after going up 3 TD late in the 3rd quarter (27-7).
1) Maye is a better QB today than he was a week ago, because he gained valuable experience.
2) because they actually didn’t.

Boutte is ahead of Polk right now on my dept chart. We need to see what Thornton and Baker can do with Maye let the auditions begin.
Very cool to see Boutte playing so well.
Oth, Polk as been a disappointment so far. He's a rook, so let's see if he can get going with Maye.

I think he will be a good WR but he’s pressing, he needs to settle down.
To some extent, I appreciate that he is pressing because it tells me that he cares and wants to win. Just needs to settle. I think he will eat some humble pie this week and hopefully start delivering more steady performances.

Oh and another small-ish thing. IIRC Maye and offense went no huddle at the end of the game. Thats pretty heady stuff for a rookie QB in his first NFL start.

It’s difficult to be too hard on a guy who has been a starting WR for 6 games and compiled a total of 78 receiving yards. I don’t know that any WR ever has done that poorly regardless of the qb.
It is epically bad, perhaps worst ever, or at least since the passing game rules changed.

Here is some perspective.
2020 NKeal Harry with Cam Newton at QB in 14 games and 9 starts. 33 catches for 309 yards.
That’s 2.4 for 22.1 per game.

2024 Polk 6 games 5 starts 10 catches for 78
That’s 1.7 for 13 per game
Harry produced 41% more catches and 70% more yards.

To add salt to the wound Harry caught 57% of his targets, Polk is catching a horrifically low 43%.

He’s been given a chance in 6 games and may have posted the worse production numbers for a starting WR in the last 40 or 50 years.
Here’s another comparison last years JUJU SCHUSTER-SMITH
after 6 games (despite missing game 6) had
25 targets
14 receptions
85 yards

Polk through 6 gsmes
23 targets
10 catches
78 yards.

Polk did that in 258 snaps juju played 193

Polk has been worse than Juju was and everyone in NE was calling for Jujus head.

Polk also had Brisket throwing to him, and dropped easy completions this past Sunday with Maye. Lets let the season play out, shall we?

So you are telling me that having Mac Jones and Zappe is an advantage?

Of course there is more season to play, but after 6 games, Polk may have the worst stats of any starting WR in 50 years. It’s not everyone else’s fault, and he is doing fine. He has literally been the worst starting wr in the nfl.

Because they might have a legit, real QB throwing to them. Funny how 2 WRs had their first ever TDs yesterday. That isn't a coincidence.
So Polk slate wasn’t wiped clean when Maye started? You do realize he was worse with Maye than with Brissett right?
