You don't understand. They need to dominate everything, all the time, to satisfy the emotional needs of the fans. Trying things out, putting guys in difficult situations for the first time, working on timing that'll take some time to get right...none of that matters. We demand instant, constant dopamine.
I'm just about ready to pull the Iverson "practice" rant youtube out......Christ.

There is no Oline help to be had. Nearly every team is complaining about their Oline depth. See the Jets practice today.

The fact that Onwenu travelled with the team is very encouraging - likely means he is at least somewhat close to a return.

We have decent depth at Guard/Center, and worse case is Onwenu kicks out to play RT.

My guess is that they are trying to figure out if Sow can start at RT or needs more seasoning. They have brought him along very quickly here - 10 days ago he was still taking 3rd team reps.

Of course there is; it's only a question of price.

Negotiate?

not sure hes negotiating type
id go with scotty here

Bedard: Starting OL (Trent Brown, Atonio Mafi, David Andrews, Riley Reiff, Sidy Sow) was OK, but second (Andrew Stueber, Chasen Hines, James Ferentz, Jake Andrews, Conor McDermott ) was "a trainwreck."
That's kinda nice to hear given the circumstances. I mean if two starters, two rookies and a guy playing out of position is OK then....four starters and a rookie/vet playing in position has to be good...right?

Rhamondre had the 5th lowest yards per target in football last year and had Zeke qualified he would have had the lowest yards per target in football. I don't think defenses are scared of either of those guys in the passing game. Both have solid hands and Zeke is great at pass pro, but that's about it. Still would love to have a real 3rd down back.

Montgomery not out is he?

And the most important thing for the qb to work on is decision making.
Let’s face it, if Mac Jones doesn’t know what space he can fit a ball into by this point, he’s screwed. To suggest he should be out there in year 3 learning what an interception is boggles my mind. What he need to be learning and sharpening is how fast he makes the right decision. Making the wrong one to prove it’s wrong isn’t helping anyone.
He has reads, ignoring them to see if he can go against his coaching and make it work is practicing wrong.
We're clearly having two different conversations, IMO.

Practice is to work on everything. Including what works and what doesn't work.

I don't know how else to explain that nor do I understand why you assume he is ignoring reads? Or the fact that sometimes things get implemented during practice, don't work for any number of reasons, then get tossed in the crap heap.

My biggest problem with Mac first 2 yrs is that he ignores receivers wide open in the flats, and he checks down to them too late when downfield plays don't materialize, and by then defenders have already closed down on those short routes. He needs to take those easy play (which the Bills and Phins ALWAYS use against us) and rack up that YAC.
You bring up a subtle but important point about QB decision making. Elite QB's quickly find the play that will gain the most yards while protecting the football, not how far the football will travel in the air. Check downs have a negative connotation as short passes that are made after the opportunity to make a longer pass is ruled out. Sometimes hitting the same pass early in the play with YAC potential is better than a longer pass where the receiver is tackled immediately. Too often QB progressions are driven by looking for long passes and then falling back to shorter and shorter routes, aka check down. Very few QB's develop the ability to assess the whole situation quickly enough to take what the defense is giving, even if it means taking a short pass early in the play.

I can live with that, as 3 of the 5 from the second line definitely won't be on the 53, most likely 4 of the 5 won't be on the 53.

Jake Andrews for sure is on the 53; and I still feel that McDermott has a legit chance also...

Of course Jim Murray would proactively seek out the discouraging reports......
Jim Murray has to be the single most depressing voice in all of sports radio. At least Felger and Mazz sometimes give backhanded compliments and they're entertaining even if they are massive trolls. But Jim Murray always sounds like his dog just died and never has anything positive to say

What starting quality tackles are available now at what price?

Still think Cincinnati's gonna deal one of their OLmen (Jonah Williams e.g.) if everyone makes it out of camp healthy and especially if La'el Collins is on schedule with his rehab...

Agreed on Mcdermott, but although he was a 4th roung pick I'm not sold on Adnrews being an upgrade to Russey. If Russey is hurt worse than just day to day then I'd agree with you.

Until Anderson is available, Trent, Reiff and McDermott are our active OT's. Sow is learning and hopefully would be available if any of the three are injured.

So, sure McDermott will make the 53.

Murray is a life-loser. Period.

Hes on radio and pimps himself to do voice-overs......yay him.

If this "starting" OL is OK, then we are in fine shape.
==========
We expect to add Strange soon. And McDermott will be a backup.

By the time we play Miami in over a month, this line will be much better, having played together for the coming month.

And yes, we will need a greatly below average backup center (Ferentz or Russey)

That's 9, including the developmental Andrews.
===========
Hopefully, Onwenu and/or Anderson will be available in 6 weeks, for Game 5.

Perhaps, Belichick will find a vet upgrade. Even if he doesn't, this OL seems better than we even hoped for a month ago.
