PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Patriots joint practice with the Packers- 8/16/23

We're clearly having two different conversations, IMO.

Practice is to work on everything. Including what works and what doesn't work.

I don't know how else to explain that nor do I understand why you assume he is ignoring reads? Or the fact that sometimes things get implemented during practice, don't work for any number of reasons, then get tossed in the crap heap.
I think you came into the middle of discussion you didn’t read all of.
The suggestion was he should try to force the ball into windows to see if he can.
At this point if he doesn’t already know where he can fit the ball, he shouldn’t be in the league.
What he needs to be practicing is making correct and decisive reads and following his progressions, to become faster and more decisive.
What he shouldn’t be doing is testing if he should try to throw to routes he doesn’t feel are open to see what happens.
Practicing bad decisions to see what happens is bad football and will rob him of building on his decision making and mental quickness.

If this "starting" OL is OK, then we are in fine shape...

...By the time we play Miami in over a month, this line will be much better, having played together for the coming month...

...Perhaps, Belichick will find a vet upgrade. Even if he doesn't, this OL seems better than we even hoped for a month ago.

Say whaaa...?

Tom Curran gave the Pats a C- for today's performance in his appearance on 93.7
This has been Curran's NARRATIVE for the entire off season. He is one of those guys who LOVES the big names and completely ignores that the Pats are building a strong middle class roster. That will compete well well. I saw a clip on NBCsportsBoston where the reporter thought that overall the Pats had the better of the day with the Packers (I think it was Callahan) I didn't listen much beyond that comment since Tomasi was a co-host and I NEVER watch anything he's on.]

The point is that ALL these reporters good or bad are completely SUBJECTIVE. Without know what the intent of staff was during the practise we can only guess how well they play. And personally I don't care how they look in practise.. Hopefully Strange will be able to go a few snaps in the game and we here AFTER the game that Owenu will be activated

Are they holding the ball too long or is the OL just getting beat?
I have to assume that knowing that they don't actually get hit that the QBs wait longer than they would in a gane situation for the play to develop and try to make a good throw to an intended read. I'm sure the line is having issues too.

Yep, including drafting a mid-major Left Guard with the express purpose of moving him to Right Tackle instead of drafting, gee I don't know, an actual Right Tackle to play Right Tackle.
The tackle draft class was considered . . . underwhelming. That’s why they drafted Sow and moved him to RT.

not sure hes negotiating type
id go with scotty here

Problem is, dude is covering punts. I'm not outrunning him either.

Say whaaa...?

Bedard: Starting OL (Trent Brown, Atonio Mafi, David Andrews, Riley Reiff, Sidy Sow) was OK.

So, a line consisting of 2 out of our 5 projected starters did "OK" against the Packers. And Bedard has fully transitioned to making his money by being negative. Gradually add in the other three starters, and allow the rookies to progress, and then we've got a good OL by NFL standards.

This is what training camp is for. Testing, learning, trying stuff out, and at the end (or in October) emerging with the final product. If a coaching staff tries to immediately only put its best foot forward, it is shortchanging the development process.

The receiver draft class was considered…strong.

That’s why we they drafted N’Keal Harry as WR1.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc much?

Of course there was strong mid round tackles to be had. My list begins with Carter Warren. Jaelyn Duncan. Dawand Jones.

Bill had a hard on for kicker Hanging Left Chad. He missed a 37-yarder yesterday. Folk is more accurate with a weaker leg. Folk will not go quiet in that good night.

Reports were the wind was pretty crazy yesterday. Lazar said there was a kick from the Green Bay kicker that looked like it hit a wall and went straight down short of the sticks. I wouldn't make any snap judgments on Ryland from one practice. He's looked good in every other one.

The key to the offense clicking will be Tyquan Thornton’s continual development. Start hitting him deep, and the defense thins out with a safety deep. Keep it going, Tyquan!

One of the things reported yesterday was that Ryland's kicks were so high, it was hard to tell if they were good or not. So he might need to work on his line drive kicks in windy conditions.
