Tennessee a season after Vrabel: 3-14.

Exactly, if we’re gonna harp on vrabels 6 win 2023, lets examine what happened after they fired him. Tennessee spend a boatload of cash the next offseason and won HALF as many games without him. Speaks volumes.

To say I am thrilled is a understatement
Like Drake at least we have the feeling of hope with Vrabes
We will see how it turns out but I feel good about it
Glad it’s over
The last few days waiting for info brought flashbacks of the time I waited for Jenny to answer my call

That’s not what happened. He made Patricia OL coach and had him call plays because it was a transition year and everyone knew BOB would come the following year.
Caleb’s just a name there is nothing to lead you to believe he would be a good OC, and no other team has felt he would yet.

No. He made Patricia the OC without the title. A common thing for Belichick. McDaniels was an OC without the title for several years after Weis left. After McDaniels left, O'Brien was the OC without the title for several years until he got it with his final year in 2011. The Pats under Belichick didn't have a DC since Patricia left for the Lions. Flores never had the title. Neither did Mayo or his Belichick Jr.

And Kraft made Belichick hire a real coordinator after the Patricia fiasco. Belichick thought Patricia would have righted the ship in year two as OC. Stop rewriting history. This has been reported by a number of sources.

Thats right mac fell off a cliff once he left. I viewed him as a good oc and a very good qb coach.and from what i heard over the years he was viewed the same on a national level.
That's not true Mac fell off a cliff in the last 5 games of 2021 aside from the Jacksonville game he was the Mac Jones he's been ever since.

  • As an executive, I find that one of the biggest challenges and most important parts of my role is “being one of the gang…” but also not. There are times when I need to separate myself from the group to bring down the hammer or make tough decisions or simply think about the business and not friendship first and foremost. People need leadership and whether or not they admit it, most people crave it.

  • I sense this trait in Vrabel, which is one reason why I am so excited about this hiring. it seems so night and day from Mayo.
The job of any boss is to put those he or she supervises in a position to succeed. Providing clarity is critical to this. Too often, a weak boss will characterize as "collaborative" or as "valuing the worker's autonomy" a state of affairs really in which actually the boss is simply too weak to be clear about what we are doing and who must do or not do what.

The best boss I ever had was retired military from the Korean War era. He told us, in no uncertain terms what was important to him, then told us the school wouldn't have hired us if they did not think were were capable people, so outside of meeting his very specific demands, we should do as we thought best. He managed to demand what he wanted while at the same time genuinely valuing our skills and allowing us actually to use those skills without wasting time guessing whether he might or might not approve. Unlike Mayo, he wasn't really much of a "nice guy," but he was clear as a bell and a terrific boss.

And if Rees leaves after one season with a .500 record with things heading in the right direction, then Maye is looking at 3 OC in 3 years. Rees isn’t staying long if he’s already interviewing for head coaching positions.

He interviewed for the head coaching position for UNC. Even though Belichick took it, the UNC job was not considered a marquee head coaching job. He will not get NFL head coaching jobs after one year. Maybe not after two. The guy is 32 years old. He might not be in a huge rush to get a head coaching position if he becomes a star. He could do what Ben Johnson is doing and waiting for the right team and situation. Word is Johnson may stay in Detriot if he doesn't get the job he wants.

Rees where he is now is looking at a college head coaching job or an NFL OC job. That is his logical next step with his experience. If he chooses the OC route, it doesn't mean he is going to look to jump to the next level in a year or two. He might want the experience at OC and then wait for the perfect head coaching position so he isn't a McDaniels or Patricia who flames out quickly.

The problem I have with this is that I hope we're not picking this high the year after. We hadn't picked this high (last 2 yrs) since 1993. These opportunities will hopefully be rare. Do you trust this personnel office with what will hopefully be the last time we do this?

Yes, I do. The last time Wolf picked this high he got them their franchise QB.And while people keep pretending it was a “ slam dunk,” I have gone back and read the draft threads leading up to the draft, and they are nowhere near as “ unanimous” as people pretend they were. There was a contingent saying “ take the haul,” and their argument was that only 33% of 1st Round QB’s succeed. and they wanted a trade down. There was a contingent who wanted Joe Alt, and said they could go QB this year. There was a contingent that wanted JJ McCarthy, one of whom instantly changed his username pretending he was Drake Maye’s number 1 fan the moment he was picked. And there was a contingent who wanted Marvin Harrison Jr. So no, it was by no means a slam dunk, and at least half of Patriot fans wanted a different outcome. Wolf did the right thing, resisted the trade offers, and got them their franchise QB, and just as he would have had to take all of the blame if Maye ended up sucking, he deserves the credit for picking him, and stabilizing QB for years to come. As for the rest of the class it’s too early to know, like most classes I think some will succeed and some will fail, but young players need a year or two to develop, and unfortunately Mayo’s staff did them no favors in that regard. But I will be willing to pass some judgement on them by this time next year.

I also think Vrabel is going to have a significant say on who they are picking. And it may even be the case that Vrabel will end up with more say in the draft than Wolf has, as Kraft could have made that part of the deal. So overall I have faith that Vrabel and Wolf will have a strong offseason, and I think Vrabel’s presence will both help with free agent recruitment, and will give every player on the roster serious incentive to work their asses off this off-season out of fear that they may end up out of a job if they don’t. I’m also hoping that guys like Keion White, who wanted out, will no longer be looking for the door, and will be excited to work with the new coaching staff.

So overall I’m very happy about the change of coaches, and the direction they appear to be headed in. I’m really looking forward to the offseason, and to see what the roster looks like after the draft.

LOL forget St Louis ?
Kind of but it’s not really relevant, that team was horrible and he was thrown into a disaster situation
If that’s all you got, it moves the needle zero

I generally think you need to give a GM at least 3 years to turn a bad franchise around, especially when they are saddled with the owners coaching staff, and they suck. However I think this time next year there will be a better understanding of whether Wolf is doing a good job or not. Now he has a good Head Coach, 135 million to spend in free agency, and a good draft situation. Wolf should be able to make significant progress with this roster given this situation, and by then we will have a better read on whether his first draft class is panning out or not.

Oh come on!

1. The draft was terrible. Yes, they made the obvious decision to draft Maye but not one other pick except Milton has looked worthy.

2. Free Agency was terrible. Both what they did (Osborne, Takitaki) and what they didn't.

3. A special circle of GM hell for their treatment of the Offensive Line. He brought in Okorafor, Leverett, Fornadel, Diesch, Jordan. What do they have in common? They are none of them on the team at the end of the season, having been displaced by such luminaries as Tyrese Robinson, Ben Brown, Lecitus Smith, Lester Cotton and Demontrey Jacobs. What was he trying to do? If he was trying to assemble the worst offensive line in football, he certainly succeeded.

4. Then, when poor Fall Guy Mayo was axed, he has the effrontery to start leaking criticisms of the coaching. Yes, the coaching sucked. But who was responsible for AVP and the Cleveland Browns (Cleveland Browns -- not San Francisco, not Kansas City, not Buffalo, not Baltimore -- Cleveland!) re-treads and second-stringers? Yes, it's you Mr Wolf.

5. All he seems to be good at is blame-deflection and managing upwards.

Go! Get you out! Make haste! In the name of God, go!

Generally i would agree with you, i was in wolfs corner but.....he hit on one pick Maye even though he was picking near the top of almost every rnd.

Reflex, how many kids picked after the first round contribute significantly? The answer- not many. The kids picked after the first round are generally developmental projects, and Mayo’s staff couldn’t have developed Rob Gronkowski.

Wolf’s draft picks may or may not pan out, we need at least another year to find out. And they were done no favors by handing them to the worst coaching staff in football. My only point with this is that they need time to either show they can contribute or not. If you employ the standard many Patriot fans are using, contribute immediately or you suck, then every GM in football would be fired.
