Patriots - Giants Preseason Finale, What to Watch For

Steve Balestrieri

For many others, they’ll be trying to create as much good tape as they can as a demo for the 31 other teams in the league

Special teams versatility means plays special teams but stinks if you use
him on offense or defense (Richards, Ebner, Slater, and King).

Jonathan Jones.

Develin is a regular fixture on 2 of the 4 ST units. Burkhead plays on 2 of 4.

Up until the last couple seasons, DMac and Chung were regularly featured on 3-4 units.

IMHO this is a final audition for a spot on final 53 for a few players so , for those particular players, performance does matter.......also for some there is PS consideration......I think there are probably 3 or so positions on Offense and 3 or so on Defense that haven't been solidified yet.....Looking forward to how it all shakes out ....

Fans really overrate the value of a good final preseason game to a guys roster spot. A few coaches over the years have said that their rosters are pretty much set before the game and the only changes are if injuries occur (or external talent is acquired)

Go back over the years and the guys who play great in the last game either still get cut or were never in danger

For example, last year I believe one of the players who played on defense made the 53, Grissom.

"We evaluate everything, but if there’s a rising trend, that carries a lot of weight. So, this is the last opportunity. If guys that have been improving the last couple weeks can add onto that, it will absolutely help them. It could help them a lot.”

Some players who this game is very important for include Keion Crossen, J.C. Jackson, Christian Sam, Jason McCourty, Riley McCarron, Cyrus Jones, Adam Butler and Vincent Valentine.
Hmmmm...It seems BB sees things differently than a few coaches.....

2 years ago there was also the fact that Brady was suspended, so he played game 4 to keep himself sharp. And they weren't going to send him out with the 2s on offense, he needed to be sharp with those he was playing with. So I don't think it was the Sunday night aspect, at least regarding the offense. I could be wrong though. 3 years ago they were Thursday night, so you'd have to go back to the 2014 preseason finale to truly get the answer here.

Well, they have to tell us fans that there is SOME reason for playing this meaningless and sloppy game. Otherwise who would watch/who would go?
