Patriots don't sign UDFA DT John Drew; sign UDFA NT Anthony Rashad White instead

Just when I thought the Pats signed an end of the roster guy that I got excited about, they didn't actually sign him :bricks:

Was it the 4.7 40 time? That seemed very iffy to me.

I know that 4.79 wasn't legit, but within timing error, we're probably talking still sub-5.0. He also reportedly has the explosion to be able to dunk. I'll take any 330 pound guy with any college football experience who runs sub-5.0 and can dunk as the 90th guy on the roster.

I know nothing about Basketball but is dunking all that impressive? Jumping up and dropping a ball through a hoop doesn't sound all that great to my British roots (although I'm sure it is).

Rashad White's vertical was 29.5 which is right up there for bigger bodied DT's at this years combine. Admittedly I don't know if it would be enough to dunk a basketball though

A Basketball hoop is 10 feet off the ground so you need to be able to jump a fair bit to do it because you need to get above the rim to dunk the ball, last time I played it was in High School and despite being 6'5" I couldn't dunk the 10 foot hoop but the 9 foot hoop was easy for some (albeit minor) perspective.

For the record, I think it was the fact that White became available, rather than anything else, that caused the switch.

After all, as far as end-of-the-roster goes, it's not uncommon to see the Pats switch on a dime: as an example, after Danny Baugher emerged from the five-way logjam at P in 2006, the Pats dumped him like yesterday's garbage when Chris Hanson(!?!) became available. [Remember: he was released a few hours before he was arrested.]

Dunking is not too impressive...hell refrigerator Perry could do it too......and that was a load!!!

Don't know why the Pats backed off Drew but White was the higher ranked player.

Is it possible to sign an UDFA DT, then not sign an UDFA DT?

Really poor attempt at a joke referencing an obscure talk radio moment (facepalm).

Only if he has a collapsed lung.

Not a bad looking kid. Strong and quick, if not particularly fast, and reads the play well. Definitely looks to have Kyle Love potential and I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the team.

You think they'll sign Shaw as well? Wasn't Shaw here as a non roster invite during organized team activities?

Shaw seems like a player with tremendous upside.

Pro day metrics for Love and Wallace, very similar as you said.
