"Another surprise cut" - Miller did not even have a smell of the field as a Patriots.

We’re not going to know anything about these veterans until later this week. It could be as simple as cutting Miller in order to put Harris on IR for three weeks.

Wouldn't be shocked if Miller finds his way to one of the Pat's protected practice squad slots.

Hopefully this means Damien Harris is coming along nicely?

Also it’s time, Sony. Gotta prove your worth here.

Harris has to go on the 53 man roster before going to IR. After hand surgery I think it is inevitable he goes to IR for a month.

Could the Mlller release be a wink and nod til Harris reaches IR?

I am not sure Lamar is ready yet. Might go on the practice squad. If Harris goes to short term IR, say hello to JJ or Peterson?

No comedy league now that Bill Murray was cut. Who ya gonna call?

2020 IR special rules:
Every team would have the ability to return an unlimited number of players to the active roster following placement on injured reserve or the non-football injury/illness list.

The 2020-only rules, which become effective after 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 6, will allow the team to remove any player with a football or non-football injury from the roster for three weeks. After three weeks, the player will be eligible to return to practice. Once he returns to practice, the team will have 21 days to place him back on the active roster.

This confirms what was written above: since the rules come into effect after 4 PM, someone like Harris needs to be on the roster after the cut down happens before he can get parked on IR and brought back in three weeks.

The other issue is guaranteeing a contract: If a vet like Miller is on the roster for the start of game 1 his base salary becomes guaranteed, and maybe BB wants to avoid that.

Can’t say Lamar Miller getting cut is much of a “surprise”.

And the first quasi-surprise: the Pats plan to release WR Jeff Thomas.
The only 2020 wr addition with any promise. Will be signed by another NFL team.

Wouldn't be shocked if Miller finds his way to one of the Pat's protected practice squad slots.

Unfortunately, the "protected" slots don't work quite that way. Apparently, they are on a week-by-week basis, starting on Tuesday of a given week, so most teams have a chance to sign anybody on your squad at least once a week.

He was so highly prized that he signed with the Patriots with less than $10K guaranteed. He was either desperate to be a Patriot or they had almost no competition for his services.
