Agreed. I just looked to see average January high temperatures in Los Angeles vs Foxborough. There’s about a thirty degree difference. Average daily highs are 69 in LA and 37 in Foxborough.
When you live in an environment that never really gets below 50 degrees. Every single degree below 50 feels exponentially colder. Especially when your average day is 70 degrees and you are inside most of the night when it does get down to the 50’s.

I’ve lived in Seattle for 8 years. I just spend the past 3 months working in LA. When i went back this past weekend. I was freezing for cold about 2-3 days until I got adapted again. It was only 40 degrees average.

If I was a warm weather owner. My training facility would be built like a hockey rink. Come playoff time they’d be practicing the last month in a giant walk in freezer

Don't overlook the impact that coaching has. Lawrence has had 3 different OC's/HC's and I believe his HC have been the play callers. I think Lawrence is very good but I think an Elite player is about coaching and the way the player responds to that coaching.
Absolutely. He seemingly has a good coach now. He has perderson who was a superbowl winning coach and had guys at WR.. point was trying to make is Lawrence was the first overall pick his draft year and that what he's doing is expected of him.

TBTW- don't bother rebutting my points. I already know most of the answers. This is just a rhetorical case I made just to show that we should not take this team for granted.
Not trying to refute anything you said, just asking questions to try to understand how the Pats can overcome those Chargers strengths.

I noticed that of your six points four were about Chargers offense, one was general (strength of schedule), and only one addressed how the Chargers defense matches up against the Patriots. That got me wondering how you see the matchup going if it turns into a shootout?

My other big questions center on your analysis of the Chargers defense and how the Pats might best attack it. You emphasized the ability of the Chargers to generate pressure, and quickly, to speed things up for Maye.

My first question is whether that can be used against them? Will they be vulnerable to misdirection? Can they be baited into defending against something other than what we are doing? How good are their rushers at adjusting and recovering if the play doesn’t go the way they’re expecting it to go? You talked about Tart giving Bradbury a handful and opening things up for the LBs and safeties and that makes me wonder if they might overcommit, and if that can be exploited? If they’re coming up the middle can Hendo gash them outside, for example?

That leads into my more general question: how can Josh best attack the Chargers defense?

I’m just a dilettante, you certainly have better understanding and insights than I do, but the first thing your emphasis on their ability to generate pressure makes me ask is how good are they against the run? Can we establish our running game? Right now I think Rham and Hendo are as good a one-two punch in the running game as I can remember. Both have shown they can run with power and also break away in the open field. I’m wondering how much Josh can show them the same look and then either run or pass out of it? To my simplistic thinking it seems that would be a good way to start the game, to keep them off balance and give Josh a chance to figure out what works best against them.

What do you think would work, both tactically and strategically?
The fact is that we can beat anyone and everyone can beat us. It is as simple as that. When we look back on it next Monday it will all probably come down to the TO's. Who get's them. Who loses them.

Here is a case for the Chargers to come in and win. .,

1. LA's (still hard from not to put SD down) biggest weakness is their OL. no question. HOWEVER, the Pats biggest weakness on D is their pass rush That sort of negates each other and bodes well for LAs passing game and Herbert and his top receivers, who are better than the Pats' top receivers.

2. Herbert will have almost 2 more weeks of rest for his left hand when he takes the field and be as healthy as he's been in months. Plus he's hungry to get his first playoff win in his 3rd try. He'll be VERY motivated and locked in
.
3. Lately the Pats defense against the run has been bad. Even with Milt back it didn't look great against lowly Miami. The Chargers have a great rookie RB and will take advantage of that weakness and the lack of speed at the 2nd level and strong edge play, especially if Spillane and Landry don't go.

4. LA's pass offense is strong where the Pats pass defense is weakest. at the 2nd level and up the middle. We watched Miami move the ball up and down the field through the first 3rd quarters using motion and 7th round rookie QB. Twice in the 2nd half Miami was driving for the tying score in the red zone when they pissed themselves.

5. On Defense they Chargers have the ability to create INSTANT pressure both from the outside and up the middle. Tart will go head-to-head with Bradbury and make his life miserable forcing the Pats to double him all day and open big gaps for their speedy LB's and S's to take advantage of. The Chargers have 2 proven edge rushers to put fast pressure that way too. They will have Maye speeded up all game and prone to making mistakes against the chargers fine secondary, which includes a top 5 safety in Derwin James who will figure largely in both the Passing and run game. This is a defense who held the #1 seeded Broncos to 19 points ALSO on the road and with no offense to protect them and a Denver team with everything gain, against a Charger team who had 0 to gain

6. And lastly, This Charger team has faced a FAR harder road to get here. They played the #1 seed Broncos twice. the best defense in the league and rapidly rising Texans, plus they beat the eagles . PLus KC at the start of the year when they were at their best. They have wins over Denver and the Steelers.

It starts at 1am and finishes at 4. I find I just can't do that. I stay up all day, watch the game, and if it has been a good one I stay up beyond the end of the game to absorb the post game stuff. I fear if we win the SB I won't be sleeping at all.

Just record it, avoid any news, and watch it later.

The great part about where we are in DM's development is that every week is a test, and so far he's pretty much always passed. The same goes for this entire combined team. So far they look like winners...

Now here we go with the next test: winning teams only from this point forward. So as little as anybody wants to hear about the "weak schedule," here's where we get to see this team rise to the level they should be able to play at. A nice sound thrashing of the Chargers should be reassuring... and a 1-point W is just fine.

But until it happens, it's all crossed fingers and narratives...

The pats have scored 23+ points in 14 straight games. The offense has struggled in two halfs vs. the bills (strong secondary, can play man) & parts vs. the bucs (vea dominating bradbury). The chargers play the second most zone in the NFL and are a 2nd tier defense by most metrics. They’ve have also had a weak schedule playing only 3 top 10 scoring offenses in the cowboys, colts & jaguars. They scored 30 PPG against them.

Offensively, there is only so much you are able to do with the 32nd ranked OL. The pats DL needs to end drives. Gadsden is concerning as an athletic TE. He should be covered by one of their CBs on third down. While Herbert will make his plays the Chargers are an average offense buoyed by the worst OL in the NFL. The pats D has no excuses with Williams & Spillane back as well as Landry rested.

The pats should win this game. It would be a different story if the Chargers had both of their tackles obviously.

I peeked at the chargers boards and they think they should win on Sunday. A lot of citing our schedule as if we had control over that. I would point to the schedule as well if we didnt throttle the teams we were supposed to but for the most part the Pats took care of business against the lesser opponents.

I also found it interesting that they visit our boards as well, they clowned Rob0729 in their game thread They think their key to wining is to stop our run and hurry Maye into bad decisions. I don't know if they realize but Maye can run as well as throw on the move off platform. If they want to pin their ears back and send the house let them and punish them by dumping the ball off just behind them. Its what we will most certainly have to do if we face Houston.

I don't think this will be an easy game but it should be a game we win if we don't get in our own way.

On defense I’m putting Gonzo on Johnson, Jones on Mcconk, and Davis on Keenan. Make Herbert hold the ball with that bad line, let Williams and company get home.

One aspect of this matchups that concerns me is that the Chargers biggest weakness is their depleted OL.And we don’t exactly have the pass rush capable of making them really feel their biggest flaw.

The rest of their team feels Super Bowl caliber. QB, weapons, stout defense. They’ve just been dragged down by their poor OL.

Dangnabit, I’m sure that’s what I typed. Clippy’s autodestruct must’ve slipped that one by me.

Ugh.
I'm just glad to be ready to say "he's getting an F-ton of looks"... never occurred to me before.

I'm not really concerned about that. Go and look at what the Pats did against "Weak O-lines". Pats had 4 sacks and another 11 pressures on the Raiders despite Kolto Miller playing. The Pats just put up 4 sacks with 8 additional pressures on Ewers. The Pats had 1 sack and 10 additional pressures on Brady Cook.

The Pats got 13 total pressures on Josh Allen in the 2nd game. They generated 11 pressures on Jaxson Dart.

With Milt Williams return, Cory Durden seeming to be breaking out, and the potential return of Spillane and Landry, this will be a better defensive team than what we saw from weeks 12-17.

Great point. I agree.

Hopefully Barmore and M Williams can get a huge push and rush from the inside. Having guys in the QBs face disrupts the passing game the most.
