He's probably getting everyone else sick as we speak.

Consider it a gift from Tom Brady. The mutated virus strain can only make the team better by improving individual players at a cellular level. Now that is progressive thinking in player development!

1. Extra hand-sanitizer stations set up: On a day where quarterback Tom Brady and long snapper Danny Aiken were sent home sick, and the Patriots were attempting to control illness from spreading, it was notable to see 3-4 new hand-sanitizer stations positioned throughout the locker room.

Today's practice probably in surgical masks.

From Wednesday:

It Is What It Is » Patriots injury report Wednesday: Tom Brady, Danny Aiken miss with illness

Tom Brady went home sick before practice Wednesday and did not take part in the Patriots first on-field workout as they get ready for the Broncos Sunday in the AFC championship.

Coach Bill Belichick would not elaborate on Brady’s absence. edit: Shocking news, I know.

Also missing due to illness was long snapper Danny Aiken.

Ryan Allen was back on the practice field after an MRI on his right shoulder on Sunday afternoon.

Devin McCourty, who had been dealing with a concussion from Dec. 22 in Baltimore, and Steve Gregory (finger) were both removed from the injury report completely.

Also new to the report this week was an ankle injury that limited linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

The Broncos placed cornerback Chris Harris and defensive end Derek Wolfe on injured reserve this week and that leaves the Broncos with few pressing injury concerns heading into Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

Everyone on the roster practiced on Wednesday and only one player was listed as a limited participant. Safety Mike Adams was the outlier because of a thigh injury, but there doesn’t appear to be much concern in Denver that he’s at risk of missing the matchup with the Patriots.

Still a pretty long laundry list of limited players. Good news is that if they leave it all on the field and win this week, they'll have a solid two weeks to rest their injuries.

Re: Thursday Practice: Perfect Attendance

Found this on a FootballGuys.com message board:

With one notable exception, you could construct an entire team solely out of players under contract with the Patriots or the Broncos who either (a) missed 4 games or (b) ended up on IR. This is what the team would look like:

QB: None (thankfully!)
RB: Shane Vereen, C.J. Anderson
WR: Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Wes Welker*
TE: Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez
LT: Ryan Clady
LG: Tyronne Green
C: Dan Koppen
RG: Chris Kuper
RT: Sebastian Vollmer

DL: Derrick Wolfe, Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly, Kevin Vickerson, Quanterus Smith
OLB: Von Miller, Jerod Mayo
MLB: Brandon Spikes
CB: Champ Bailey, Chris Harris**
SS: Adrian Wilson
FS: Rahim Moore

Am I crazy for thinking that if you put either Tom Brady or Peyton Manning on that team, it'd be, if not the best team in the entire NFL, at least top-4 and one of the favorites for the superbowl this year? Granted, the outside receiving options would be weak as all get-out, but Peyton and Tom are perhaps the best in the league at exploiting mismatches in the middle of the field, and with Welker, Hernandez, *AND* Gronkowski, you're basically looking at an upgraded version of the 2012 Pats receiving corps. The secondary could use a bit more depth to help with 3 and 4 WR sets, but that front 7 would be absolutely hellacious (Wilfork, Miller, and Mayo are all first-team All Pros, and the surrounding pieces are all quality starters). Speaking of 1st-team All Pros, Ryan Clady anchors the blind side of a pretty solid offensive line.

Moreover, I think whoever wins the AFC this year is going to surpass the 2010 Green Bay Packers as the SB participant who overcame the most adversity due to injury and missed time.

* Welker technically only missed 3 games, but his availability would have been in question had Denver played in the wildcard round, and he also missed about 3 quarters worth of games he started with his concussions. Plus, I'm sure there are Patriots fans who feel like he missed all 16 games for them this year .
** CB is a little bit thin, so we'd tend towards a "big nickel" using safety Quinton Carter as the 5th defensive back. Alternately, Aqib Talib missed 3 games, so we can make him an honorary member and just limit his snaps.

Re: Thursday Practice: Perfect Attendance

According to the injury report from yesterday Shane Vereen is also limited by a groin injury, that can explain why he's not playing that football we know he can do.

Danny Aiken LS Illness DNP
Tom Brady QB Right Shoulder/Illness DNP
Ryan Allen P Shoulder Limited
Danny Amendola WR Groin Limited
Kyle Arrington CB Groin Limited
Alfonzo Dennard CB Knee/Shoulder Limited
Aaron Dobson WR Foot Limited
Dane Fletcher LB Groin Limited
Dont'a Hightower LB Ankle Limited
Logan Mankins G Ankle Limited
Kenbrell Thompkins WR Hip/Concussion Limited
Shane Vereen RB Groin Limited

In the case of Shane Vereen I didn't know your groin was connected to your hands. Vereen gets banged up too easily for my liking...I would like another 3rd Down RB via the draft.

Re: Thursday Practice: Perfect Attendance

@cespn1 Aaron Dobson is moving well at Pats Practice. Foot injury

just read this on twitter. good news!

Maybe the Patriots' activities director should re-think The Groin Pull at the employee picnic. Vereen, Fletcher, Amendola and Arrington all have groin issues.

Alas.
We had one. And he was cheap.

hooo hummmm

Great news indeed that should take alot of pressure off our Slot Receivers. If Dobson is good to go it gurantees that Armendola will have good game.

That pisses me off.

What is inexplicable is WHY THE HELL WAS HE OUT THERE PLAYING IN THE END OF SEASON BUFFALO GAME?????

-It was merely one week after he pulled up lame and took himself out of the Baltimore game
-Conditions were cold and heavy rain - - awful conditions for playing on a pulled groin.

I LOVE this franchise, but their handling of injuiries is their (pardon the pun) Achilles Heel.
